i'm looking at picking up a new ps2. Anyone hear of any rebates or in store sales? Also, are there any differences between the earlier versions of the ps2 and the most recent? thx in advance.

Newer PS2's are better. $150 for a PS2, game, and adaptor is pretty good.

Yes I agree the Bundle for $150 is a good deal. I picked mine up for that. Luckily I have a friend that works at the video game store who could find me one. The bundles are getting scarce now.

Thx for the quick replies! tornadomann, what game did the bundle include and where did you find it? also, is there any difference between the older versions of the ps2 and the newer runs?

If you're willing to wait there may be some good deals on older model PS2's when the new models come out. But that could be months from now.

The pstwo is coming out on october 26th for $149. There is an article about this on msnbc.com (technology section). Maybe they will mark down the older versions then, but I doubt it because alot of stores around here haven't even had the older versions in stock recently. Check out the ps2 discussion board for more on this topic.

the older ps2's (especially first release) crap out after a while and wont play dvd's. so definitely go with a newer one man

My Bundle came with ATV Offroad Fury 2. Its a halfway decent game, but it gets kind of boring quick. I found mine at Video Games Etc! I told my friend what i was looking for and he had 2 left in back. The newer PS2's have updated drivers.

thx for all the replies. I would like to get the newest version ps2 but how do you tell the new from the old? The only way i found was to count the # of screws on the bottom. I think the 50001 series is the initial run but i don't know what the most recent is.

I have 50001 and have never had a problem. I would check BB they have about 10 bundles on display at my local store. I'm not postive what the newest PS2 number is...

If it's at any major retail chain the chances of it not being the current model are very low. As mentioned above there are many stores that have been out of stock for a while as Sony lets the inventory drain out.

sony is on a work stop right now for the ps2's. we only had a couple at the Gamestop i work at and we don't get them in very often right now. we do get used ones in occasionally and they are $119 with a 90 day warranty through Gamestop.
