Now, I own the DS game and am anticipating the sequel but I really do hope this gets on the PS3. This has the aesthetics of the PSP game but whatever.
SPACE INVADERS EXTREME. ON YOUR TV. HOTNESS.

It was confirmed for PSN a few months ago, so it's good to have more options on where to get it.

Space Invaders Extreme is going to be released sometime this month: http://kotaku.com/5204223/new-space-invaders-extreme-screens-minter-in-package
The way things are being priced now, I'm thinking it'll cost 1200 points.

Had it on PSP, and it was awesome, but they'll probably charge 1200/1600 points for it. No thanks.

This game is not SIE. Anyone who's played SIE on the DS or PSP will know exactly what's wrong with this.

3 major arcade games in a single week? I find that hard to believe.

This being priced at 800 points (if true) eases the sting a bit of Lode Runner coming out this week for 1200. Another thing from that story that has me excited is Arkanoid Live, also for 800 points, coming in May. I hadn't heard anything about that, and I've been in the mood for a good Breakout-type game lately. :bouncy:

It was supposed to be released in April so we'll probably only have to wait a week, I need to get myself another points card now....

Looks like it's possibly coming next week 5/6:
According to Shacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/58447), Taito has announced that Space Invaders Extreme (http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/space-invaders-extreme) will release on Xbox Live Arcade next week. Previously released on the DS and PSP, the game adds musical and graphical flair to the original Space Invaders. The XBLA version also brings the new addition of Xbox Live multiplayer (which you can see in the video above). The game is expected to cost 800http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif.
Keep in mind that Microsoft has yet to confirm next week's release. Expect official word on Monday.

It's amusing that they're now releasing 2-3 releases per week that destroy the recent "spring sale" they had with the dishwasher, outrun, etc.

I love the game on my DS but I can't get past Level 5!
I've been playing this on the DS for about a week and I cannot defeat the Level 5 Boss. It's driving me nuts.
I'm not sure if I'll get the XBLA version.

Nice, I was watching videos of this and thinking "too bad it's probably gonna be 1200." Glad they pulled a "Bionic Commando" and made this one 800!

Like I said earlier in the thread, they messed with the music. I can't believe they messed up something so simple.

I'm with you with that. I just tried the trial and the music they have is the same freakin' looped stuff over and over and over and over again. Its almost as bad as Pac Man's bass music. Well that's sad but at least you can play a custom soundtrack. Still this is disappointing. Played the DS version straight afterwards and who would have thought the music would have made the game!

So long story short, buy the DS version. Plus, it has the paddle.

Bought Space Invaders Extreme today. It's far and away the best version of the game.
The graphics are highly improved, with awesome new backgrounds and impressive transition effects between rounds. The music is different than the portable versions but actually much better IMO and more "Space Invaders-ey."
Co-op supports up to four players, but you all share lives and there's no continuing, so you won't get far if your partners aren't decent. IGN's reviewer claimed that co-op wasn't much fun, but I think it's a blast.
I was a little sad that there's not a button for faster movement like in Arkanoid Live (to make up for the lack of a paddle), but the control works well regardless.
(Good luck finding people to play online with in the DS version. And like I said above, co-op, baby.)

The droning techno loop that sounds incomplete would've been amazing back when the game first came out. It is NOT the best version just for the sake of the music itself.
Go listen to SIE's Stage 5-B music, Executor. Then come back and try saying that the music is suited for this 360 version. It isn't.
How much stock is available for co-op?

Yea I have to disagree, this is an average version compared to the DS and apparently it was on the PSP too. Just look at the ratings on gamerankings that shows this. http://www.gamerankings.com/xbox360/954475-space-invaders-extreme/index.html
I wanted to love this game but to tell you the truth since I already have it on DS I'm good. Still a fun game though and the added HD visuals do look nice.

I don't think the DS version's music is anything special. It's just a matter of opinion.
The visuals aren't the only update. The multiplayer adds way more replay value than the portable versions could ever achieve.

If anyone ever wants to MP it up on this, let me know. The only requirement (beside the obvious one of having the game and being online) is that I ask you not be a douche. I am fully aware this might make it difficult to find people to play with.

I'm down for that. I've been having a bit of trouble finding people playing co-op so far

It's pretty apparent that the DS version is a more pleasant audio and playing experience. Notice the dynamic changes in the music. It's also a tad bit quicker and smoother. It's better defined in the sequel:
