This is most likely a price drop, it really hasn't sold too well cause of the headset requirement and it came out at $30 I believe. I always wanted to try this, but then I'd have to buy a headset. Though if I go for it, I'd just get the used one so you can use coupons on it.

19 or 20 bucks seems to be the norm in the places I've seen it. It's an ok adventure/survival horror game but because you have to use the head set to direct the charcter it's a lot more difficult and sometimes blindingly annoying.

In tough battles if you dont keep your cool your directions wont be heard clearly and you;ll find yourself repeating things over and over again. Plus there are some moments you;ll be forced to talk to the character in ways you might be embarassed to do unless you're really really into the game. And the worst part is trying to tell her to examine things that you dont know the name of, they tell you in the instructions to use colors to describe what you;re talking about but when you have something like 3 blue cups one might be a mug one might be blue with a black stripe and geting those discriptions to go through her thick-ass head can take a while.

A friend of mind said he had an easy time beating it by having his girlfriend speak into the mic, apparently they must have used the actresses voice samples as a template for the recognition software so you have to imitate the way SHE says things in the game for the best response.

If you think it's interesting DON'T GET IT, you'll be VERY disappointed after about 5 minutes. The ones that seem to be interested in it are very disappointed after the first time playing.

A great concept gone horribly, and utterly wrong.

This is currently my favorite game on the system :-)

Based on my near decade experience of using voice recognition software every single day, I can tell you that a lot of the people reviewing it had no idea how the technology involved works -- thus a lot of complaints about inaccurate voice recognition. The system works well as I have had very few in game voice recognition errors and absolutely none when my voice wasn't noticeably compromised by the above factors. The bonus game section is a different matter entirely as it frequently misrecognizes words {probably because there are more possible word choices available }

What's happening is that the human voice changes not only from day-to-day, but often hour to hour; depending on how much you use it, what you've had to eat or drink, and environmental factors like allergens. Even the best voice recognition software packages can't compensate for this well without at least the minute of retraining voice files occasionally. The best I can figure, the voice training {presuming it exists} is only present in the minigames located under the bonus menu. During the rest of the game the game makes a best guess of what you said based on limiting its possible word possibilities subject to what ever area you currently are in in game. That means that even though there are over 1000 words recognized by the speech engine, only 10 or 15 are actually available at any one time making for fewer mistakes in speech recognition.

I also noticed that making the last syllable a higher tone than the rest of the word will improve speech recognition of multisyllable words when using a medium to higher pitched voice; I haven't yet cracked how to handle lower toned raspy voices yet. {Think your voice just after eating potato chips and greasy foods}

The game play itself is reminiscent of a very polished point and click adventure. The puzzle are relatively simple considering the game will literally feed the answers to you if you skip one. For example, I had accidentally skipped picking up an item called "magnesium". When the game AI found me ahead of where I should've been in the game play without this item, it inserted the item name into a conversation with the main character they had nothing to do with magnesium.

MINOR SPOILER

So I'm in the medical facility, and Rio is asking me what you normally find in a hospital. After I gave each response she would repeat my word, and then give her own view on the item as to its usefulness or whether she liked it or not. I gave the word "antacid" and she repeated back to me something to the extent of, "magnesium. I don't like that". Now keep in mind I'm years from my college chemistry class and don't remember what magnesium does beyond the fact it's on the periodic table. Thinking it a mistranslation of the medical product, "milk of magnesia" I didn't think much of it at the time other than it was a funny mistranslation. As it turned out, courtesy of gamefaqs and Internet Explorer's find word function, magnesium was really in the game and I missed it -- and I couldn't go any further without it. I would speculate that I hadn't gone back to get it right then and there I would have gotten more seemingly out of context verbal clues. Way to go Konami for an unintrusive hint system :-)

END SPOILERS

Other than the in game clock that doesn't pause when you hit the pause button, this game is just about flawless in what it's trying to execute -- a thinly veiled point and click adventure executed totally by verbal commands. Unlike other games of the genre, all the puzzle here makes sense in the context of the environment and are relatively simple. Unfortunately, it wasn't marketed that way and if you don't like that particular genre you are going to be incredibly disappointed with this game. It's also relatively short based on how far down the FAQ the Internet Explorer find word search took me when I was stuck on the magnesium puzzle mentioned in the spoilers I marked. I've only been playing three days and I'm probably nearly finished with maybe one or two days worth of game play left not counting the extras/unlockables/bonus modes. Even though I can easily see myself preordering a sequel I think most hard-core gaming people could finish this in a rental and forget about it. Casual gamers would probably take a couple of weeks or longer, so for them this is a great buy at just about any price -- especially at $20 :-)

buyer beware this game is horrible, the voice software is really really bad you will spend more time yelling at the screen cause she can't uinderstand you. no matter what or how you say something.

Wasn't green tagged at any of my TRUs. I guess I'll have them scan it for me next time I check stuff out.

I tried tonight, $19.95. I'd have paid $15 to give it a shot.

I would jump on it, but it costs like $30 just for a USB headset. It's a damn shame I can't use my Xbox live Headset.

MUCH, MUCH better. The OP should change the topic title to reflect the better deal.
