Did Akihiro Hino just drop a clue about an English release of the second Professor Layton game? (Update: Yes he did. Check below.) Judge for yourself: Beginning his speech at Game Developers Conference, Hino, the head of publisher Level 5, showed a list of the games the company had released, with English language titles displayed on screen.

The second game was listed as Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box.

That's not an explicitly literal translation of the title, which is often translated as "devil's box." It seems a bit too perfect -- more like Professor Layton and the Curious Village than "Mysterious Town." Could this be an official English title? Or did someone just take a bit more flair than usual making the Powerpoint presentation?

Beats me.

Update: Actually, it doesn't beat me anymore, because in the Q&A session, someone asked this directly, and Hino's answer was that he wants all six Layton games to eventually come out in the U.S. and Europe. As to when this would happen, he said that they are currently working on the localized version of Diabolical Box, and that he hopes it will be out in six months.

Six months? Wonder why they're taking their time.

Day 1 indeed! I love the first game, this and any sequels are no-brainers!
