Well then; now I just need a list of applicable games to know what one game I need to trade in, then I'll use trade-in credit for the rest.
Sure I just got my DSL back from Nintendo because the L/R buttons were busted (again), but if the DSi fixes this (plus a whole slew of problems I had with all three of the DSLs I owned), then it. will. be. worth. it.

Hmmm... if it's a $8+ TIV game, then it would be bumped to around $20, and the DSL gets bumped to $80. Not bad.
I'm surprised gamer602 didn't post this though.

Yeah unless your DSL is already about to die, I'm not sure this is a good deal.
Unless that shitty game Trace Memory qualifies, then maybe I will do it.

YMMV, but they'll probably only accept it if it's roughly all there; so if it has one of those prominent hinge cracks, they won't notice, but if a whole chunk of it is gone, probably not so much.
Unless that shitty game Trace Memory qualifies, then maybe I will do it.
From what I can remember, TM still qualifies as old as the game is.

I went thru three original DSes due to dead pixels before that, then the mentioned DSL problems, so I'm pretty much expecting play warranty hot potato with this new version at least twice. Will they be camera problems? Face buttons? Circuit board frying? We will know soon enough!

Wonder if they would take mine which has a visible broken hinge?
Well, I got the Lite during the "trade 5 for a free Lite" deal at EB and the games I traded in only cost me $60. Trace memory was $15 at EB. I guess if I am going to get a DSi then this is the best deal. I am still waffling about it. I just had a GBC renaissance so it seems a waste to drop the ducats on a fresh DSi when I may not even play it for a while.
I wish there was some sort of "trade X for a free DSi" since that avoids sales tax.
Actually, I just checked Ebay prices and they are $100+ for used white Lites not even complete with box. WTF? Maybe because the polar white is out of production? I guess I would just sell it there instead.

I refuse to pay more than 159 for a DSI which I know it will be soon at SDM.
They have 20% off days very frequently.
OR
a special points day in which you get over $100 store credit back with the DSi purchase.
EB is a joke to buy the DSi from...I mean who would do that trade promo when you can get $100 back from another store without trading anything!

First of all, not many SDM's sell video games.
Second, it's 20x the points, which isn't cash: it's credit for a future purchase at SDM. Good if you shop at SDM often, bad otherwise.
Third, the 20% promo I believe is given back in gift cards: again, not cash.
Fourth, trade-6 and trade-5 at EB were great ways to get a cheap DS Lite, especially with Rogers and Blockbuster promos. Is there a way to get a DS Lite at SDM for $40-50+tax?

I find items at SDM are quite overpriced; with the money I save by shopping at Zehrs/Wal-Mart/Zellers I would be able to afford a DSi with my savings alone. Sure, it may take longer, but I'd save money in the process, and that's what CAG is all about.
As an aside, no SDM's in North York or Waterloo have a video game section, AFAIK...must be a Westerly thing :P

Erb & Ira Needles and Erbsville & Laurelwood. I believe the one on Bridgeport & Weber also carries stuff but it's been awhile since I was there.
They basically carry Wii, Wii Fit, DS and about a dozen Wii and DS games. Mostly out of stock at any given time though.
Anyway, if you buy stuff on the 20x points and redeem them on the bonus redemption days ($200 for 75,000 points) it works out to 34.8% off.

Ahh those SDMs aren't close to me at all haha, I'm pretty much right at King and Uni, the Bridgeport/Weber ain't too far off; I'm a little confused with the point redemption...I go on the 20x points day, buy whatever I need, and when "redemption days" come around, I redeem my points for SDM gift cards?
Lone_Prodigy

Check RFD, there are massive threads about SDM redemption.
Every large chain has loyalty programs, but personally I find shopping around to be better in the long run then committing to any one store. Superstore has PC points, Safeway has Air Miles, Costco has their 2% Rewards program (not free), HBC/Zellers has points, etc. Also most banks have their own incentive-laden credit cards, so there's that to consider.

I look at the bright side; after exchange rate, we get the DSi a bit cheaper compared the US (199.99CN versus 210.xx), however that still doesn't make it right. :(

When you redeem, you get merchandise.. no gift cards. Normally it's 75k points for $150 of stuff, but on special days, you can get $200 of stuff.. The trick is to find $200 of things you want on that day, because everyone is trying to buy Wii's and DS's
The points deals at SDM are nuts, especially if you use the referral programs to get even more bonus.
However, the odds of finding a DSi at one of these stores even during a non-sale sounds laughable, let alone on a bonus redemption day.

Oh ok I gotcha, yeah like Lone mentioned, a boatload of companies offer point redemption programs. If you start on them early, you'll eventually buy stuff you need, and have enough points to treat yourself to something fancy; I'm hoping I'll have enough PC Points to treat myself to an Xbox 720 or a PS4 in 3-6 years!

Okay I"m actually not sure what the price of a DSi is. But it makes more sense if the msrp is 199.99.
I went into my local gamestop and the guy told me it was 200. That makes sense because the flyer does say trade in a ds lite with a qualifying game to get the dsi for $99.
If it's 169.99 and you only get it for $99 it means ur ds lite + qualifying game tiv would only be worth 69.99. While if you trade in the DS Lite seperately you get 75 dollars so yeah.
The msrp should be 199.99 by that logic.

Oh I definitely looked at getting a PC Credit Card, but my father isn't too confident in my ability to pay off creditors in a timely fashion, so he would prefer I wait until a steady stream of income starts rolling in. I'm not super desperate for a CC so I figure I might as well give him one less thing to worry about. But we're meandering a bit off-topic here hehe...I've lately become interested in getting a DS, since there's quite a handful of games I think I would enjoy, but I don't know whether I should get the DSL or the DSi; I have a GB Micro for GBA games, I suppose, but it's a little small for my larger-than-average hands...if you guys were buying, is the DSi worth the extra $60?

EB Canada's trade-in deal is exactly that but you also get an extra 30 bucks if you also trade in an 8+ tiv DS game with it; well, you have to trade both game and DSL to get 100 CND bucks tax-free TIV only towards a DSi.
While it's not as good as BBV US's 90 for a DSL, it's good nonetheless.

While I haven't actually used the thing's music player yet, but I imagine the DS would make a shitty music player even with MP3 support if only because of the size of the thing to play music by keeping the top screen open all the time. And if you close the system, it goes to sleep and the music doesn't play.
And even if the system does play music in sleep mode, it's far too big to be an adequate music player anyway, just like the PSP. It's nothing worth crying over, imo. :p

Yeah $75 standard, I suggest people do that quick 'cause it might go down after Game Days is done and gone with, now that the DSi is out.
Kijiji/Craigslist is now flooded with DS Lites. I'm not sure they would be able to sell for $100 anymore, so this EB deal is actually viable now, assuming you didn't read my review of the DSi, learning from my mistake of buying one.
