I just bought a USED PS3 40 Gig. I am trying to reset the system so it erases everything so I can start from scratch, but cannot figure it out. Can anyone help me out so I can get on Playstation Network?

If the PS3 firmware is 2.5 or above (you can find out by going Settings -> System Settings -> System Information), the recovery menu has been added. By holding the PS3 power button until it beeps 3 times, the PS3 recovery menu will appear. There's instructions here:

Or, you can do:
Settings -> System Settings -> Restore Default Settings. There's also an option for Restore PS3 System, not sure which you want.
