shipwreck
04-01-2009, 01:29 AM
As detailed in CAG Foreplay Podcast #61, we have some DSi swag courtesy of Nintendo. We have a DSi lanyard, DSi magnets, and Animal Crossing: Wild World magnets to give away to one winner.

Listen to the show for details on how to win (or just copy the trend that you see forming of those that actually listened)! Winner will be announced on the next CAG Foreplay. A winner will be chosen at random.

Thanks again for the prize Nintendo!

Good luck everyone!

I am going to buy it for a similar reason as you ship. I want to play the ds ware games. they seam really fun

I'd have to see what the DSiware is going to bring before I'd be interested in buying one.

I voted no, but I may be persuaded if my shoulder buttons stop working completely on my DS Lite. They are getting really flaky.

Eventually, but I'm going to try to hold off for as long as possible. I'm not interested in DSiware or the bigger screen, but I like the buttons better than the Lite and eventually there is going to be compelling DSi only software.

A good limited edition or a price drop are going to be make it irresistible.

I have no reason or interest in the DSiware. Its pretty bad I had a DS and never seemed to use it. I played it maybe 20 times or so before I ended up getting rid of it = (

I said no, but I'm sure a Black Friday bundle or better colors will sway me at some point.

I say nay because I would rather have the ability to play old gameboy games on my DS than having a crappy camera.

04-01-2009, 03:20 AM
i will buy one when i get bored with my ds lite or if there is a game that makes the dsi worth buying.

diddy310
04-01-2009, 03:35 AM
I have one coming but don't know if im going to keep it. Maybe i'll rebuy it later when there's desirable titles, or once my white DS Lite crumbles to dust (unless of course the DS Lite drops to 100, in which case i'll probably just replace it with a new DS Lite)

garrett186
04-01-2009, 03:56 AM
voted no b/c removing features from the ds lite felt like a bad move for me, especially since they intend to sell gba games back to the consumer thru DLC leaving the physical copies of gba games to rot.

KingCrow02
04-01-2009, 04:17 AM
No for now, until I see some must have exclusive DSi downloadable game or DSi only features.

There has to be at least 5 must have DSi exclusives before I trade up my Lite.

My DS broke earlier this year so I have been having to play the wives. When it broke I decided it only made sense to wait for the DSi before I bought a new one.

No way am I buying a DSi. Not only is it the DS equivalent of the GC games being upgraded with Wii controls, but as a UK gamer, I would get shafted by the now-typical delays and outright omissions from the other regions

kashwashwa
04-01-2009, 09:40 AM
Not a chance I'd buy a DSi...
1) I'm cheap
2) I would never use the features of the DSi (for the time being)
3) I actually do play GBA games on my DS.

Shiroh30
04-01-2009, 09:52 AM
Probably won't buy one.

Are the graphics/hadware any different than the DS Lite? Are games still going to be "Nintendo DS games? or is there going to be DSi games?

raybert
04-01-2009, 10:09 AM
Yea, I sold my ds lite a year and a half ago, so I'm looking forward to getting the dsi. There's a lotta cool games to check out. GTA, retro game challenge, henry hatsworth, And Korg ds.

greggysasaki
04-01-2009, 11:06 AM
Voted yes because I'm addicted to spending money. Besides, I hate not being able to connect to the internet with my dslite due to the fact that I use WPA and I'm not willing to downgrade to WEP.

I have been looking to get a second DS. Depending on timing and pricing, it might be a DSi ... it might not.

TheInfiniteAmmo
04-01-2009, 01:24 PM
I'll probably be buying one...eventually. My DSLite works great right now.

But the allure of DSiWare and the fast, integrated browser are both appealing. Too appealing...

I play Pokemon to much so no i will not be buying.
Though it would be cool if the DS Lite was matte.

I don't play my DS enough to justify getting a new one but my current's WiFi crapped out so I may in the future.

04-01-2009, 03:50 PM
no way

Edit: Bought one anyway:D

04-01-2009, 04:22 PM
Nope, I'm good thanks. I still play GBA games, never used the wireless before on my DS, and a brighter screen would be wasted on me since I use the lowest setting on mine and it still burns the eyes.

jonathanp
04-01-2009, 05:10 PM
I'm not going to buy a DSi. My DS Lite is working fine and I don't need a camera, I don't need my DS to be an mp3 player.

The DSware and internet access are interesting, but not enough to for me to spend the $70.

Mike26
04-01-2009, 05:43 PM
Not yet...waiting for a good deal to appear and more games to use the DSi features

I have mine pre-ordered and picking it up sunday. I like the matte finish and hopefully DSi Ware will be cool.

I'll get a DSi once a DS game or DSi Ware comes out with a DSi exclusive feature that makes me go 'I need to try that'.

chililili
04-01-2009, 06:43 PM
Yeah I'm gonna buy cause I have no DS and I wanna try out DSi Ware as well.

shawnyofthedead
04-01-2009, 06:48 PM
I sold my DS after getting fed up of waiting for any good games on it. Now with the DSI I can see myself getting back into the whole handheld gaming lark. ( I have chrono trigger and Chinatown wars sat here waiting for friday)

I also have a crappy work lanyard that I currently have to wear but a nice snazzy DSI one would be sure to impress my boss!

TripMasterMunky
04-01-2009, 07:28 PM
For me it really depends on the dsi ware games. I doubt they'll be that great though. I'll miss the GBA slot too. I'm sticking with my DS Lite for now, but we'll see what happens in the future. So I vote no.

04-01-2009, 08:02 PM
I'm a sucker for any Nintendo upgrades...so I'm definitely buying one.

And I really need the Animal Crossing magnets. It would would make my sex life better.

Own two DS systems already which were free. Don't need to pay for one.

Super_Cholo
04-01-2009, 08:58 PM
I voted no. Mainly because well... what's the point? So you get a download service big deal. My iphone does the same as well as my wii. Two crappy cameras!!! Wow!! Yeah still not cutting it.

AleetPanda
04-01-2009, 09:00 PM
If there is one thing I learned from CAG it is that money is not hard to save in video games and I feel that the DSi is only here to get me to buy games that last 15 minutes and stay in the DSi forever. I will wait for the truely new hardware before I upgrade. And I voted no in the poll.

04-01-2009, 09:02 PM
I am going to buy one. Its the perfect time to get one and hand my light down to my 6 year old. The DSi ware and SD card slot are tempting upgrades.

Jest
04-01-2009, 10:07 PM
Not going to buy a DSi. The only reason I ended up upgrading my Phat to a Lite is because EB Games had a Trade-5-get it free deal. It seems like Nintendo is just running out of people to sell a DS to so they stuck some crap on it to get people to buy their 3rd DS.

D_W01
04-01-2009, 10:13 PM
I'm not getting the DSI. Reason for being so is when I got the DS Lite, I hardly ever played it. And I Just Recently bought the R4 for the DS, so I can play a crap load of games without changing cartrages. And the features Nintendo is Providing, doesn't really justify the cost and effert for me to buy it.

snowbunny
04-02-2009, 12:45 AM
Nope, I'm perfectly happy with my phat DS. :)

Jrittmayer
04-02-2009, 12:53 AM
I am not going to get it at launch for $180 because that is too much for a handheld console that is only slightly improved from the $120-130 but once the first price drop hits then I'm getting it because of the SD card compatibility until then I am fine with my DS lite. I was also invited to this event by club nintendo but was not able to make it, it would be really nice to win some swag just to show I COULD have been there lol

kube00
04-02-2009, 12:54 AM
I voted no, no GBA slot, it's not cheap, and the cameras. Bought hey it may drive down the price of DS lites!

MIGGO
04-02-2009, 02:33 AM
I'm buying one due mainly because I have no self-control when it comes to new gadgetry. I have a Crimson Red DS Lite which I love, but will still pick up a light blue DSi next week (along with a Dragon Quest Slime Cover from PlayAsia (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-b6-49-en-70-36qy.html)).

roguejedi5
04-02-2009, 03:30 AM
I will but not right away, the only thing that would make me buy it now would be a killer app. And we all know that ain't going to happen too soon.

Shady3011
04-02-2009, 07:14 AM
I'll be buying it at launch because I'm a consumer whore.

04-02-2009, 07:26 AM
I preordered one. Looking forward to DSiWare.

MSUHitman
04-02-2009, 01:23 PM
No GBA=no purchase for me. If I bought a DSI, then I'd have to buy a GBA SP to play my 20 GBA games if I wanted to play them. Screw that.

Maltandbagels
04-02-2009, 01:36 PM
I already have my DSlite. I might consider getting the DSi later down the line if the camera function is added to some from of video chat. (which would be incredible)Another reason would be if my current Dslite calls it quits after three years of abuse and drops. Not by me but by the kids the sneak in and nab it.

SeanNOLA
04-02-2009, 02:39 PM
I'm buying one for my GF because that color blue is her favorite color. I'm happy with my lite though...

gunm
04-02-2009, 02:47 PM
I'm not going to buy one. I already have a real camera and a camera phone and $170 is not worth it. If Nintendo made DSi ware BC, I'd buy it for my Lite. Or if they gave me full DS Lite functionality w/GBA slot, then I might've considered it for $160, but otherwise no.

slimeknight8
04-02-2009, 04:29 PM
Only buy a DSI if my DS lite broke

daminion
04-02-2009, 04:35 PM
I may consider buying one, but a few things would need to happen first.

1. The price would need to drop to $130 or below
2. The store would need to prove to be worthwhile

Otherwise I see no worthwhile improvement over the existing DS Lite.

04-02-2009, 06:22 PM
I want to get a DSi, just not right away. My biggest problem is that I don't have enough money right now. The other thing is, I want to know is if you'll be able to connect your wii shop acount with your DSi shop account. I would hate to have to add points to both accounts seperately just to buy games. It would be much more simple to just have one account for both systems. I went to a DSi event as well, in Denver, but the employees at the gamestop couldn't answer that question either. I did enjoy the DSi. I got to play it for like 30 mins or so. Rythm Heaven is great by the way. I think that the best thing is the improvment of the menu & the little things like being able to go from in game back to the DSi menu without turning it off. But once I get more money & the DSi has been more established then I will for sure buy it.

04-02-2009, 11:40 PM
Nah, I'm happy with my Black Pokemon DS Lite. I guess long term, maybe - but it doesn't seem like we can be that far from a DS 2 or whatever, which I would guess will have the same capabilities and more.

04-03-2009, 07:19 AM
Yes, I just dropped O.G. DS in water and i'm afraid to turn it on. So, yeah, I'll be upgrading sometime soon.

macefield
04-03-2009, 10:35 AM
I plan on getting one as soon as cash flow increases. My DS Original right button is going out and I am finally done playing through my GBA stash I bought at a yard sale two years ago.

04-03-2009, 01:19 PM
Zero interest in a DSi, my thoughts are basically the same as Cheapy's.

reicaden
04-03-2009, 02:47 PM
if DSi only software comes out, then ill bite.... if not, then i'll probably stick with that i have, DSware doesnt really interest me enough to make the jump

HuBu
04-03-2009, 05:10 PM
Voted no since I would need to drop $100 on top of trading in my lite.

04-03-2009, 07:26 PM
As stupid as this sounds, no GBA slot makes it a no buy for me.

UltimoRey
04-03-2009, 08:09 PM
im not buying one YET. the only reason to "upgrade" is the dsiware games and i dont think thats worth it yet

Killbreed
04-03-2009, 10:07 PM
Voted yes because I've been meaning to upgrade from my original DS. Never got a lite, so now's a perfect chance.

Smallville123
04-04-2009, 01:58 AM
For me it does not make sense to upgrade

mrfreeziexp
04-05-2009, 03:04 AM
I voted no. At least for now, there's no reason for me to spend the extra money. I heard that they could introduce a virtual console for the DSi that sells Gameboy, GBC, and GBA games. If they release that in the US and make Pokemon Crystal available, I'll buy it.

Cao Cao
04-05-2009, 03:09 PM
I voted yes, as eventually, barring the release of a successor, I will likely pick up a DSi to replace my original DS. And my view on the situation is that there isn't as much incentive for someone with a Lite to upgrade until the hybrid and DSi-exclusive carts come out, but someone with a "Phat" may have a bit more to consider, especially when considering the smaller things that the DSi is supposed to improve over the Lite (Slightly more "clicky" d-pad, hot-swapping, in-game brightness controls, on-screen battery indicator, slightly bigger stylus).

watertails
04-05-2009, 04:44 PM
Like a few of the other people who voted "yes" on the poll, I'm really waiting to see what the DSiware is like. If it turns out like Wiiware, and there are only a few games worth buying, I might just skip out on the DSi.

Or if any homebrew can run off the SD card slot, that'll help my purchase, too.

nzbeans
04-06-2009, 12:21 AM
While the extra features are interesting, they're not enough to justify it's high price point in NZ (even after trading in my DS Lite).

04-06-2009, 08:18 AM
I voted non as I need multiple first part DSware games. Plus £150 (UK) :O no way my son

Collectordragon
04-07-2009, 03:33 AM
No, at least for the time being. I don't really need a DSi at the moment and the loss of the GBA slot is a down grade in my opinion.

yowanda
04-07-2009, 03:46 PM
Its possible I might pick one up at sometime. My 5 year old _really_ wants a ds, so at some point I may giver her my old lite, and get me a new dsi. But I think the 2 colors are gross, and it this point, its not too big of a deal sharing the ds between the two of us. Time will tell.

AkariK
04-07-2009, 03:50 PM
Voted no because of the GBA slot. Gouging consumers to buy GBA games again as DLC is just really, really stupid.

LiK
04-07-2009, 04:29 PM
no, too expensive. i'll only get one if both my DS Lites break.

Catpeople
04-08-2009, 01:48 AM
I plan on getting a DSi sometime in the next six months. Mainly because I like the new features and the L-shoulder button on my DS lite is broken, making me switch to a DS with a broken screen to upgrade in Henry Hatsworth.

Zushi
04-09-2009, 10:14 AM
I voted no for now. I think I'll wait for a few good download games to come out before I bite the bullet.

Jonman
04-09-2009, 06:04 PM
I've already bought 3 DS's. A Phat when that was released, a Lite for the missus when that was released, and a second Lite when the wife dropped her first one.

So there's going to have to be something earth-shatteringly amazing about the DSi for me to pay up a 4th time.

SuxoR
04-14-2009, 06:05 AM
I voted no because I do not have the money right now

I bought a DS at launch so I still have the old school model and need the upgrade...but I do wanna play some GBA games.

saunderscowie
04-14-2009, 09:07 AM
No because Nintendo have lost all credibility.

04-27-2009, 12:41 AM
I voted yes--I traded my DS Lite at Gamecrazy for $90 towards the $170 price of the DSi. I don't see Nintendo dropping prices (they haven't on the DS Lite, which I bought a couple of weeks before launch at a Target that broke street date. I figured it was $130 at launch and I used it for 22 months, so I got my money's worth out of it. Really I only paid the $40 differential between the DS lite's retail price, and the extra $40 toward the DSi's retail price for a total of $80+$8 tax. I saved the tax on the $90 trade in as where I live tax isn't charged on trade-ins.

Anyway, I have had it for ~2 weeks now and am really enjoying it. The bigger screen makes a big difference. I like that the firmware is upgradable. Let's hope that they can come up with a way to use the new wireless system on old DS games.
