I've been keeping my eye on this for awhile and it just dropped to $38.99 this morning. Seems like now's a good time to pre-order. :)

Details:

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Volume XV from Shout! Factory will include two Joel hosted episodes and two Mike hosted episodes, all from the Comedy Channel/Comedy Central period of the show.

102- THE ROBOT VS. THE AZTEC MUMMY (with short: COMMANDO CODY AND THE RADAR MEN FROM THE MOON Pt. 1)
La Momia azteca contra el robot humano was made in Mexico and was released in the US in 1959. From the grade Z costumes, acting and special effects to the mediocre dubbing, this film is perfect fodder for MST3K. If you've always wanted to see a poorly costumed mummy battle a cardboard box style robot, this is your film. This episode also features the beginning of Radar Men From The Moon, which was one of the best things about Season One MST3K. Hilarious!

509- THE GIRL IN LOVER'S LANE
This 1959 black-and-white film features Joyce Meadows and a very young Jack Elam. The film is a hackneyed story about troubled teens from broken and problem homes, but the acting is not actually that bad and it's engaging enough to really irk you when you get to the incredibly depressing outcome of this film. Even the final sketch of the show focuses on the noxious ending of the film. Still, if you focus on the jokes from the MST3K crew then you can get through it and the mostly one-dimensional and unimaginative writing make for some amusing jokes through most of the film.

604- ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE
This terribly cheap and amateurish "horror" movie from 1986 stars Adam West. The scariest thing in this movie is the scene where the kid in his white underwear leaves a hot tub. Hilariously bad teen horror that works extremely well for MST3K. Zombie Nightmare is the only color film in this DVD set. This is a strong episode from the post-Joel era of the show.

616- RACKET GIRLS (with short: ARE YOU READY FOR MARRIAGE?)
This 1951 film is about a guy who runs a women's wrestling league as a front for all manner of illegal rackets. The film has a very "Ed Wood" quality to it. The movie and especially the short, Are You Ready For Marriage?, both work extremely well for the show.

Extras features include:
* Glimpses of KTMA (when the show was on a local channel in Minneapolis before it appeared on The Comedy Channel)
* The Design And Speculative Technology Of MST3K: Joel Hodgson And Trace Beaulieu Visit M.I.T.
* New Interviews with "Zombie Nightmare" stars Frank Dietz, Jon Mikl Thor and John Fasano.
* Kevin Murphy And Trace Beaulieu in a Sneak Peek of the upcoming independent feature film Hamlet A.D.D.
* Trailers/promos
* 4 limited edition mini-posters

I've been kicking myself lately because I stopped buying the MST3K sets after Volume 4 (lack of money at the time, lack of space for my out of control TV-on-DVD collection), thinking I could always go back and get the sets I missed later. Now some of the previous releases are impossible to find, and/or crazy expensive.

Thanks for the heads up on this, Maklershed. I think I'm going to have to start buying these again.

Yeah, I believe volumes 9 and 10 are now pretty much rare collectors items. Meaning we'll never see them for reasonable prices. :cry:

Nice, the price went down from my original pre-order of this. Good call and thanks! Fairly average episode listing but Zombie Nightmare makes this set worth it, one of the top 5 episodes of all time... the rest are just all right.

I think vol. 9 is the one set that is superhard hard to get, as well as the earlier version of vol 10, which they then replaced either once or twice...the current version is vol. 10.2, but it appears that all vols except 9 are available at deepdiscount.com for 40-ish...

I wonder why Volumes 9 and 10 are so rare. I'd expect the oldest sets to be the hardest ones to find. I assume some sort of licensing issues must have come up with those sets after release, either with music or the movies themselves, to make them take 9 and 10 out of print.

I'd love to stumble across someone who doesn't know their value selling those sets at a yard sale or flea market. Guess I won't hold my breath for that, though. :lol:

I don't know what the deal is with volume 9 but 10 is rare because it contained Godzilla VS Megalon but they didn't get the rights from the people that have the license to the character Godzilla. They replaced 10 with 10.2 which has The Giant Gila Monster.

I think the rumour with Vol 9 is thats it's much the same as the original vol 10 problem, they released a film without having the rights to it. They've just never said what film it was, maybe theres a legal issue there.

This is why I always pre-order now, incase it gets pulled for some reason at a later date. It probably won't happen again but that gaping whole in my collection where Vol 9 should be tells me not to take the risk.

benjamouth your signature just made my day haha. this does seem like a great deal after reading the possibility that two of the seasons could be pulled due to legal rights. thanks for the deal and the heads up on the box set! http://legaldocresource.com/forms/img/3472/c09y0318ctnw/pixel.gif

I now buy all these sets the day they come out for they will go out of print. Volume 10 went out of print within a matter of months. One thing that actually turned out kinda cool was that when they released 10.2 with the Giant Gila Monster, you could contact Rhino (the publisher at the time) and everyone that bought the original volume 10 could get Gila Monster for free.

Zombie Nightmare and The Girl in Lovers Lane are great episodes. I can't even watch the season 1 shows and Racket Girls almost put me to sleep (the short is awesome though). Regardless, I'm sure I'll still get this.

Looks like the Joel / Trace visit to MIT extra is getting pulled:

Two extras on our upcoming XV are from the scrapbook. We've re-titled them "Glimpses of KTMA: MST3K Scrapbook Scraps I" and "Behind the scenes: MST3K Scrapbook Scraps II" (which replaces the MIT extra). Believe me, I'd love to include the whole scrapbook, but it's loaded with clearance problems. Some of them we'll solve eventually; some we won't.

The one that always made me laugh was I accuse my parents.
