We already have Mario Kart and I'm looking for another 5-year-old-friendly racing game for the Wii.

Any suggestions? I saw M&M Racing, but the reviews don't seem to be too good, although I'm sure it might be fine for him.

Thanks!
Aaron

... except there was a multiplatform sequel. But I heard that was kinda lame.

Well none of those games were made by the original developer. I would consider CTR the best non Mario based Kart game.

I dunno, Re-Volt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Re-Volt) was pretty bitchin'.

NASCAR Kart Racing (http://wii.ign.com/articles/953/953032p1.html) is a Mario Kart clone, but it's gotten decent reviews.

You might want to look into ExciteBots: Trick Racing (http://wii.ign.com/articles/964/964992p1.html), it's coming out April 20. It's a little less Mario Kart since it's not a clone, but I'd bet any red-blooded boy would love a game like this, and it has better lasting value. I'm getting it myself

If you want to play it safe, go with NASCAR and he'll probably like it. It's not as good as Mario Kart, but it gets the job done. If you choose ExciteBots it will either go over his head or he'll love it. The better game is ExciteBots, but it may suit the age 7+ crowd more. If you think he can get into that, then he'll love it, but if you just want a decent, simple extension of Mario Kart, go with NASCAR.

I'd personally get him ExciteBots because A) I'm the kind of person who gets people things they may love instead of will like and B) I can't recommend a Mario Kart clone over a game that's better and more original when they're the same price ($40), but you know him better than we do, so your call.

Or you could get both.

Excite Truck is good, though it is not Kart racing.

Another vote for Nascar. It's a really solid game, and if Mario Kart didn't exist it would hold up well on it's own. My six-year-old also likes Excite Truck. We play Speed Racer together - it's actually a really good game and looks great but is a little difficult for him by himself.

CTR was awesome, but the multiplatform ones are made by a different (read: terrible) developer.

It's honestly rather good. Would have been better with Wi-Fi though since the single-player mode is pretty easy to complete.

Diddy Kong Racing of course.

This. Best family friendly racing game. Is this on virtual console yet?

I don't know if it will or not. Rare remade it for the DS (butchered it btw), so there may be a reason it's not on VC already.

Yeah, DKR DS wasn't so hot. I enjoyed the online multiplayer battle mode though.

Loved DKR, but I think Snowboard Kids was better and was sadly overlooked by many a gamer

NASCAR Kart Racing
MySims Racing (not out yet)

Those should be good enough that the OP can even play with his son and have some fun, too, honestly.

Yeah, I missed out on the series. It was when I couldn't afford games like I can (see: debt) now. :)

There was a DS installment, but I don't think it's very good at all according to friends/reviews. I should definitely look into the series though. Thanks for the recommendation.
