This is Wal-Mart we're talking about. The cashier couldn't do the math required to break a million bucks, thus the reason the lady got caught.

I'd rather she be on the streets begging for money than in a jail where our tax dollars are spent to keep her alive. That being said...

That's funny I had someone try to use a fake $500.00 bill on me before. It looked like she had just printed it because the ink was coming off on my hand.

Why do people counterfeit $100 (or million) bills anyhow? Shouldn't you be counterfeiting 1, 5, 10, or 20$ - this way nobody is going to check them. I mean if you're going to do it, then do it right dammit!

Funny, I always think the same thing. Anyway, the only reason I can see for not faking small bills is that it is not cost efficient. Faking bills that will pass scrutiny costs a lot of money so I figure you would want more bang for your buck and just go for the big bills (pun intended).

But that's just it, bills of small denominations won't have to go through such rigorous scrutiny, thus they wouldn't need to be so "perfect", thus cost less money to make. Ok, maybe 1 or 5 is a little too low... but 20$?

Actually, who knows? Maybe people already do this and we just don't know it. Who knows how many fake 20 bills may have passed through any of our hands?

meh... whatever

when i worked at sears this old decrepid cashier took a fake 20 that looked sooooo fake, the entire background was green. once when i was there i got a fake hundred from a lady that looked like 98% real (it felt a little different) so i checked it with the pen and turned out fake... i called security and they told the lady to try and get change at a gas station with it or something or she's SoL (she obviously wasnt a counterfeiter)

Yeah, some people think "If I take it to the bank, they'll exchange it for a real one." LOL Sorry but they confiscate it, and you get nothing in return. Unfortunately, the best thing you can do is try to pass it on to some poor unsuspecting soul.

I laughed my ass off when I read this story yesterday. And then I came across this on CNN.com this afternoon.
I've highlighted what I think is the best part in this story

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/South/03/11/million.ap.jpg.ap/index.html

Woman denies trying to pass fake $1 million bill

Atlanta, Georgia (AP) -- A woman who tried to use a fake $1 million bill to buy $1,675 worth of merchandise at Wal-Mart said it was all just a misunderstanding -- she thought the bill was real.

The United States Treasury does not make $1 million bills.

"You can't keep up with the U.S. Treasury," said Alice Pike, speaking from jail.

Pike, 35, was arrested last week at the Wal-Mart. The bill was a novelty item that can be bought at gag shops. Pike told police she got it from her estranged husband, who is a coin collector.

Pike said she first tried to buy the merchandise with two Wal-Mart gift cards. But the cashier told her the cards only had a total value of $2.32. That's when Pike says she pulled out the $1 million bill.

"All I've got is this," Pike said she told the cashier.

"I wasn't trying to pass off the bill," she said. "That's ridiculous."

A police report says Pike tried to pay for the items with the fake bill and even asked for change.

Prosecutors must decide whether to prosecute Pike on charges of first-degree forgery.

This story's just getting better and better....
