digging it quite a bit. It still feels a bit over priced for one table but its a pretty good table none the less and they went full boat on the details (the loud ass clack when you get an extra ball or set a new high score).
There are a few things about it that does suck
1) the disappointing ball between the screens bugs you no matter how much you thought you had gotten over it. It seems worse in this than any other game I can remember. Eventually you do get used to it but it still bugs you
2) I don't know if its buggy or if its something I'm doing wrong but I can't get it to save my high scores to save my life. I broke a million points and was elated but when I played it again, it didn't show up. Only my score that took the fifth spot is there.
3) They don't set you up with the normal three balls but rather they give you 2 balls and the option of getting credits when you hit score plateaus. Its....weird to say the least.
Though I would have liked another table, in the end, not bad for $5. It's the perfect game for the shitter.
And yes, this is from the people behind Mario Pinball Land and Metroid Prime Pinball

Mario Pinball Land is one of the more frustrating video pinball games around, though I still kind of like it. Kind of. Metroid Prime Pinball was fun except for that bug shooting mini-game that you play over and over and over again. I hated that. Still... I'll probably give this one a shot. 500 points doesn't seem too bad.

There seems to be 2 or 3 different high score lists FB, depending on whether you used a credit or not.
Maybe that's it.
I do wish it had more tables, but at least the one is packed with content. I like all the high quality voice samples too.
If not for all the free points from Pepsi though, I'd be iffy.

DSiWare: Dragon's Lair Coming To DSiWare
http://www.gamerbytes.com/dragonlairdsi.png
After some middling with dull WiiWare titles like Word Searcher, Digital Leisure is going into the back catalog, and serving up some Dragon's Lair on DSiWare.
That is, according to the German USK rating system, which recently rated the old FMV action-puzzler for the system. Recently its sequel Space Ace popped up on the iPhone app store and took up a jaunty 243MB - I wonder if Dragon's Lair can make the journey to DSiWare while sticking to the 20-40MB size limit?

I don't know what you mean by games that run off the SD card can't be loaded from the Wii Main Menu though? On the Wii, there's a seperate SD card menu that is quickly accessed if that's what you meant. I'm not bothered by that, and hope a similar solution is brought to the DSi.

19. DigitalLeisure Canada 14 Oct 2009, 17:26 BST
Hi Everyone! Here are some quick answers to your questions.
1) Can the DSi handle this? Of course! The game plays great!
2) Is this a game, can it actually be played? Yes, this is the original Dragon's Lair from the arcades, and it's fully playable! Every original scene is included!
3) Will it be like the NES version? Absolutely not!! I assure you, the first scene is passable! ;-)
4) Why not on a console? All we said is that is it coming to DSiWare...no one ever confirmed or denied a console release!
5) Can this even fit on DSiWare!? Yes, it most certainly can, and no, it won't take up the entire system memory.
We'll be posting screenshots, video and a whole lot more over the coming weeks until release.
22. DigitalLeisure Canada 14 Oct 2009, 20:24 BST
@buffalobob - The game is controlled with + Control Pad and A/B buttons.
30. DigitalLeisure Canada 15 Oct 2009, 14:21 BST
@Tony - Yes, the opening drawbridge can be found in the "Home Mode" as it was technically not included in the original arcade release. The game will be releasing worldwide. USK was first to post the rating to their site.
@SmaMan - You can use either the A or B button for the Sword, they'll both work.
@letsplay - We'd love to make it available for WiiWare, but due to the size limits it won't be possible.

Square Enix Brings Cell Phone Strategy Title to DSiWare
The next Square Enix download title hits next week.
Posted Oct 24, 2009 at 22:44, by Anoop Gantayat
Square Enix is tapping into its cell phone lineup for its next DSiWare download. Nintendo posted details today on a DSiWare version of Kuni Yaburete Sanga Ari.
The original cell phone version, often translated to English as "Hills and Rivers Remain," was released for iMode in May. As detailed here at that time, the game offers real time strategy with a simple command set and a dramatic story line.
The DSiWare version promises the same real time strategy gameplay. However, Square Enix is updating the interface for stylus controls. Wireless play for four is also supported now, complete with customization options for setting turn limits and item numbers. The wireless mode will feature some exclusive maps.
Look for Kuni Yaburete Sanga Ari on DSiWare on October 28 at 800 DSiPoints.

EA Sudoku keeps a lot of statistics for you, so you can see how well you do on the various sudoku puzzles. It also has 5 difficulty levels and the newspaper mode where you can enter in the puzzle and then complete it in the game. Looks like there is also a puzzle solver option in newspaper mode, but I don't have any newspapers with sudoku puzzles to try it out.
Only bummer I've noticed so far (could be an option I just haven't found I guess) is that you can't write in the numbers via the touch screen. What you do is touch the box, then touch the number you want in the box on the far right of the touch screen.
Regardless, for 200 points this is a steal IMO.

Electroplankton Trapy
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Trapy plankton make sounds as they swim over graceful lines made up of linked triangles. The creatures follow the lines you trace along the water. There are six types of Trapy in all, each with a unique color and sound. All Trapy plankton produce different tones depending on the direction they swim. They produce the lowest-pitched sounds when they swim to the right and produce higher-pitched sounds as their path veers to the left.
Electroplankton Hanenbow
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Normally aquatic creatures, Hanenbow sometimes use floating leaves to launch themselves out of the water, creating strange sounds and melodies as they bounce off the leaves. Entire schools of Hanenbow have been known to launch out of the water, one after another. As a leaf is repeatedly hit by flying Hanenbow, it gradually changes color. This also alters the sound made by bouncing Hanenbow. When all the leaves turn red, a flower will bloom. It remains unclear why the Hanenbow display this curious behavior.
Electroplankton Rec-Rec
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Rec-Rec are fishlike plankton that feed on sound waves. They absorb sound waves transmitted through water and use them as a form of nutrition. The sound waves that the Rec-Rec eat are then stored inside their bodies until they have been digested. Once the digestion process is complete, they play back the sounds in perfect four-second intervals. While these sounds are playfully emitted, wave patterns can be seen pulsating on their bodies. Rec-Rec always swim side by side in schools of four. When they swim at different speeds, the frequency with which they emit sounds also changes.
Electroplankton Nanocarp
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Nanocarp have very sensitive hearing. Using their two ears to sense vibrations coming through the water, these plankton can distinguish sound quality and frequency. They display very interesting reactions to the sound of humans clapping or breathing. Nanocarp are also excellent swimmers. They have a tendency to swim in formations of 16 and react together when they detect sounds. These plankton emit sounds on their own when they sense waves on the water's surface. When this happens, the pitch of sounds they produce changes depending on where the Nanocarp is located.
Electroplankton Beatnes
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Beatnes are curious plankton with geometrically shaped heads that form vertical strands like seaweed. Their bodies are made up of eight sections, each featuring a distinctive diamond-shaped tail. The sound of a Beatnes can vary wildly depending on which segment of the body is tapped. However, all of the sounds closely resemble the short-wave and triangular-wave sound effects from a Nintendo Entertainment System™ sound chip. When Beatnes are tapped in time with a rhythm, they continue to repeat the sounds in perfect time for a short period.

Bomberman Blitz touted 8 players, but that's only local wifi, and there is no download play. That means you've got to find 7 other DSi owners (not DS) who also have purchased the game. I suspect that the number of people who will ever get to play it with more the 3 others will be countable on one hand. Or less. Only up to 4 player games online. Still, I might pick it up.
I'm probably also going to pick up all the plankton "games", in part to make up for a somewhat shady past. :)

I wouldn think so, but since I have two DSis, I'll give it a go. Also, the DSi takes an SD card.

DigiDrive I presume is the same as the Japanese GBA game which is interesting, because there is no GBA hardware in the DSi, right? That would seem to imply that the DSi is up to emulating GBA games. Then again, I don't think DigiDrive is a graphics or audio powerhouse. In any case, perhaps this is a first step toward a VC for the DSi?
Also I hope they'll add demos for DSiWare like they now have for WiiWare. I could really use a demo of DigiDrive before taking the plunge on it.

Maybe, maybe not. The DS line has both ARM9 and ARM7 cores. The ARM7 core is the same line as the orginal Gameboy Advance, so the DSi may not even need to emulate the GBA, just run the ROM on the ARM7 core.
But just because it is an ARM7 core, doesnt mean it is backwords compatible with the GBA's ARM7, but that is generally the idea.
A final note, the ARM7 core was used for GBA games, GB and GBC games ran on a Sharp Z80 chip. Meaning a VC would need to emulate the Z80.

Electroplankton Luminarrow
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Luminarrow plankton are famous for their habit of perfectly following arrow-shaped formations. The plankton spin as they move, changing directions as soon as they come in contact with an arrow that's pointing in another direction. The pitch of the sound they make will change depending on where the arrows are positioned. There are four types of Luminarrow: red, yellow, green and blue. Each type floats at a different speed and makes a distinctive musical tone. The four types of Luminarrow drift together to create beautiful melodies. Completely alter the direction of the arrows to change their sound dramatically.
Electroplankton Sun-Animalcule
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Sun-Animalcule plankton get their name from their tendency to emit light in a sphere around them. The plankton begin as eggs and gradually grow, emitting light and fascinating sounds throughout their entire life cycle. The sounds they make will change as they grow from infancy to maturity, growing very quickly until they disappear completely. Sun-Animalcule plankton only emerge in the morning, noon and evening. They lose strength as the night wears on; that's when the crescent-shaped Falcato plankton take their place. The pitch of the plankton changes depending on where they grow.
Electroplankton Lumiloop
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Lumiloop plankton are curious, donut-shaped aquatic creatures. While stationary, they have the ability to spin at a very high rate of speed. As they spin, the Lumiloop emit unique sounds and a fascinating ring-shaped glow. Lumiloop plankton seem to always grow in clusters of five. They produce sounds at different pitches as they spin together, creating a beautiful harmony. This is called a pentatonic scale. Depending on where they live, Lumiloop plankton that produce several different sounds have been identified.
Electroplankton Marine-Crystals
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Resembling delicate snow crystals, Marine-Crystal plankton float elegantly on the surface of the water. The plankton get their name from their distinctive snowflake shape. They grow in clusters of 35 and line up in very orderly formations. When stimulated, Marine-Crystal plankton spin and produce vibrant sounds. While the plankton do grow in size if they are repeatedly tapped, they gradually return to their original size over time. They are born in four polygonal shapes: triangle, square, pentagon and hexagon. The ends of the crystalline protrusions also take on the same shapes. The tone of the sound they make will change depending on the shape of the Marine-Crystal plankton's body.
Electroplankton Varvoice
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 200 Nintendo DSi Points
Description: Varvoice plankton memorize the sound of human speech and repeat it over and over. They accomplish this amazing feat by oscillating the long flagellum that extends from their heads. By resonating the vibration with their water-droplet-shaped body, the plankton produce sounds that closely resemble the human voice. The body can expand and contract at will. By changing shape, they can easily manipulate the sound of the voice. Words that the Varvoice memorize and play back in reverse have a particularly strange ring to them. Researchers refer to this phenomenon as Varvoice inversion.

The story so far...
As the ‘80s were drawing to a close, the developers at Capcom began work on a top secret project that aimed to set new standards for the platformer genre. That game was called “Dark Rift”, and it blended the intense shooting action of Section Z™ with the latest innovations in platform jumping from Mega Man. In order to properly fulfill the producer’s vision for Dark Rift (later renamed Dark Void), the hardware engineering team at Capcom was enlisted to design and produce an all-new chipset that would be included in every cartridge, enabling huge numbers of sprites and never-before-seen special effects to be displayed on the aging NES® platform and the PlayChoice-10 NES arcade cabinet.
Alas, time waits for no man and game developers are no exception. The dawn of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System® made the additional hardware requirements for Dark Void redundant. Capcom suspended development on Dark Void as it began to evaluate the SNES. Before long, the game was shelved and drifted into the annals of gaming history. Even the internal tape-based archives were lost due to an unfortunate magnet incident which even today is best left un-discussed. Dark Void became a legendary “lost project” at Capcom…until now.
Nearly twenty years later the next gen version of the game, Dark Void, is back on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC! But to commemorate the game’s humble origins, Capcom has commissioned this recreation of the original 8-bit classic, now re-titled “Dark Void Zero,” on the DSi platform. You play Rusty, the first human born in the Void, who must take on the Watchers in a quest to stop their domination of Earth. With the aid of Nikola Tesla, and his state-of-the-art rocket pack, Rusty must take down the Watchers and their minions across three intense levels of action and intrigue.

NINTENDO DOWNLOAD: A NEW DECADE BRINGS SEVEN NEW DOWNLOADABLE NINTENDO GAMES
Jan. 4, 2010
Should old acquaintance be forgot? We can't remember. But what we can remember is that this week's downloadable lineup from Nintendo asks a lot of questions. The Nintendo DSiWare™ service wonders if you can master missiles with Trajectile™, lead animals to their proper pens with Animal Puzzle Adventure or match wits with TV chef Gordon Ramsay in Hell's Kitchen Vs. The WiiWare™ service puts you in charge of maximizing your rubber duckie output with Heron: Steam Machine, asks you to aim for the bull's-eye with Pub Darts and wonders if you have an itchy trigger finger with Fast Draw Showdown. Finally, Final Fight™ 3 on the Virtual Console™ service makes you wonder if the fight is ever really final.

Trajectile
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)

Three types of missiles are at your disposal, each one with its own characteristics - but all of them can bounce off walls on their path to smash, blast or drill through enemies and blocks. Along the way, you'll find item blocks just waiting to be destroyed so that you can obtain special power-ups ... and cause even more destruction. Be careful though, as missile type and position are predetermined and you get only a limited number of launches per stage. Complete multiple classes containing numerous individual stages, earning medals when you clear stages in fewer than the given number of turns. Are you ready to take aim at becoming a Trajectile master?

Once you clear all 10 stages in a level, the wallpaper for that level becomes unlocked and you can then view it in the gallery. Trajectile sounds like it could be interesting, but I really wish we had demos. I've been sitting on so many Wii/DSi point for so long it's ridiculous. I've even got a 2000 point card that has gone unscratched for almost a year now. I'm always hesitant to buy anything, even stuff that has interested me, for fear that I'll end up not liking it or just think it's OK, and have wasted the points. I like Dark Void Zero but there are a few nagging things about it. The aiming sucks and the jet pack is kinda clumsy. It's kinda hard to line up your shots, you tend to hit the wrong direction when your trying to shoot diagonally and being able to crouch and shoot would have been nice. The jetpack is too touchy and when you have to get close to the lava, you end up with cheap deaths. Other than that, I'm digging it even with it being really short and no real replay value.

I had fun with True Swing Golf (cartridge) for a while. I think it's a pretty solid game. Well, actually it's a little buggy, but not enough to keep it from being fun. At the time it was certainly the best golf game out there - what wasn't to like about swinging with the stylus? It worked well. I can't see paying for a lesser download version - get a used cart.

I have Oregon Trail. It's pretty good. Like the old game, you pick one of 3 professions, which basically controls the difficulty. The graphics are bright and there's lots of detail in the backgrounds. You run across historical figures (such as Abraham Lincoln) who ask you to do stuff, which'll earn money if you complete it. There are several minigames: hunting, repairing the wagon, sending telegraphs, fording the river, picking berries, and fishing, and most of them are fun. The only downside is there are load times between transitions, but they're not too long.

I really wish they would have released the G&W games in a different way, with a single G&W app, and then in-app purchase of the individual games. I guess they have no mechanism for that type of thing yet, though. Do any DSiWare games have DLC?

They better not be! To clarify what games are on the Game and Watch collections verses DSiWare... here is the breakdown:
DSiWare:
Game & Watch: Mario's Cement Factory
Game & Watch: Chef
Game & Watch: Judge
Game & Watch: Manhole
Game & Watch: Helmet
Game & Watch: Vermin
Game & Watch Collection:
Game & Watch: Oil Panic
Game & Watch: Donkey Kong
Game & Watch: Green House
Game & Watch Collection 2:
Game & Watch: Octopus
Game & Watch: Parachute
(PLUS a new Game & Watch game that is a mix between Octopus and Parachute)
So far, no game has been on both- and I hope they keep those 5 exclusive to Club Nintendo.

Gangstar 2 and Alphabounce sound interesting, but I must say, Gangstar sounds too full of goodies for 500 points, making me think it sucks.
Edit: Alphabounce website (http://www.alphabounce.com/DSiWare/about.usa.html). Looks interesting. I'll wait for reviews, but I may pick it up. I love Breakout games.
Edit 2: Gamestar 2 review (http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/reviews/2010/03/gangstar_2_kings_of_la_dsiware). This cracked me up: " For a game that apes GTA's gangs and guns gameplay, you'd expect the side missions that see you selling various items to be suitably gritty: GTA's drug-selling minigame may have been simplistic and controversial, but it was at least in keeping with the rest of the game. What Gangstar 2 asks you to sell instead is... sweets. Yes, that's right, sweets (candy to you fine North Americans). In between stealing cars, shooting cops and running over pedestrians, you can pop down to your local sweet shop to pick up some chocolate bars, some lollipops and maybe a few sticks of rock. ... You're supposed to be a member of an LA gang beefing over territory, not Willy Wonka."
Edit 3: Alphabounce appears to also be a free online game, but judging by pics from the Alphabounce website for the DSi, I would say they revamped it for the DSi. Link to web game: http://www.alphabounce.com/

Not only can you move purchases with Apple's model, you can have your apps on up to 5 devices (ipods, iPhones and iPads) and use them on all of them legally. If you get rid of one of those devices you can de-authorize it and then put the game on a new device. That's a much better way to do download games and apps. Still, there are some fun game available on DSiWare. They'd better find a way to let us transfer our games to the 3DS, though. I'm thinking, unfortunately, that they aren't going to bother, and will tell us to just keep our DSi's for the games we have on them. As such, once I'm out of my current crop of points, I'm not buying any more, regardless of what's released. I'll wait for the 3DS and hope they got it right with that platform.

Interesting line-up for next month. Photo Dojo free for a limited time, Earthworm Jim port; Looksley's Line-up is probably that camera-based 3D game. Of course, there's also that shmup Metal Torrent (with leaderboards), and Q Games' X-Scape (Sequel to X, their Battlezone-esque shooter Game Boy title). The list closes out with Flame Tail (http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/news/2010/01/first_impressions_moyasu_puzzle_flametail), and the localization of Kappa Michi (http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/news/2010/03/first_impressions_kappa_michi) from Brownie Brown (Some Mother 3 sprite cameos (http://earthboundcentral.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/KappaIslandOcho.png)).

Frogger Returns (Nintendo DSiWare, Konami, May 17): Frogger Returns takes the challenge of the arcade classic Frogger and brings it to the Nintendo DSiWare service for the first time. Adriley, you can store DSi games on an SD card, but you can't launch games from the card. Also downloaded games are locked to the console from which they were purchased. There is currently no way to transfer DSiWare games to another system.
So it's best to wait for the 3DS if you're planning to get one of those.

These bots act like a tower does in a tower defense game, keeping the enemy from the base. Each bot has certain strengths and weaknesses against different enemies. The enemies include bears, raccoons, rabbits, turtles and cats. Play through 50 levels consisting of waves of animals - increasing in difficulty - who attempt to steal the candy. Should a creature reach the base, it will take a treat; this treat must be recovered or it will be lost. Should a boss reach the base, the game is lost. Jason Rohrer Anthology showing up. You should download Passage (http://hcsoftware.sourceforge.net/passage/) right now and play it. Literally takes five minutes to run through, but is a unique experience.

I was like...... why won't my DSi get online....
Then I read at Nintendo's site that the router has to be mixed b/g, instead of G only which is what I was using for all my G devices since I no longer have anything B to slow things down.
Why? I thought it's been G since the phat version?

:( @ strell
After reading online, I see that the Phat and Lite were B only.
But DSi and XL are b/g.
I'll try that when I get home though... I used advanced network setup when I had WPA2 security, but this stupid Verizon router only lets me do WEP.
I can still use WEP in advance network setup right?
And does that mean I won't be able to play any DS games on G since you can't use the advanced setup?
But Picross 3D..... ugh.

Official site has stuff you can photograph for the game if you are having issues finding things to use.
Interestingly, they include the original templates that the game uses. You can download them as a pdf. This got me thinking - I could draw in the bodies if I chose to do so.
If anyone has any ideas for that, let me know. Might be a fun way to pass the time.

Spirit Tracks is great, but the mic use is annoying, but mainly because I play mostly on the train and bus, and they are noisy environments. It's a challenge trying to blow into the mic before the train blows into it for me. I'm managing, though I pretty much have to stop playing when I get to a flute part and do those when I'm off the train/bus. I really wish this kind of use of the mic would be put to rest. Photo Dojo (though I haven't tried it yet) gets it right - recording your own sounds for the game. That's a fun use of the mic.

On the train/bus: turn the mic sensitivity way up, and cover the mic when you don't want to be blowing. That should work, right?
eastx
05-12-2010, 08:07 PM
No. If you're blowing into it in public, you look like an idiot. Plus the mechanic of moving the flute back and forth to blow into it in a pattern - particularly when you have to perform a song to unlock rail maps - requires a degree of precision that you can't achieve while trying to retain your dignity.
