Didn't see a thread for this, but the news of THQ giving out codes on their MyTHQ site means you do not need to preorder to get the demo anymore.

https://www.thq-games.com/uk/mythq/index

Just go there, sign up for an account with all of your normal details (you can leave the country setting as is if you're worried about telling the truth screwing you over), activate the account with the email you receive, and go here:

http://www.thq-games.com/uk/redfaction

Click on the PS3 option to get a PSN code that you have to redeem with a UK PSN account, which are easy enough to make. And you'll have the demo to play without having to preorder online or at a store. Enjoy.

This could work for Xbox 360, too, but I'm not sure how XBL handles foreign codes or if you'd need an additional UK gamertag to get it.

The lazy that can't handle the five minutes it takes to do this can wait for the demo to appear next week on the US PS Store.

They've been available since Friday, so I don't think the demand is all that high.

You can get a 360 code or a PSN code as he mentioned, just not sure how it would work out for 360 owners because it might be for a foreign region.

I was really pumped for this game before the demo. My cousin, who moved away a few years ago, would always, and I, along with my kid brother, would play the multiplayer on RF1 for hours, non-stop. With the new game promising multiplayer, I'm was stoked.

Then I played the demo and this game turned from a first month purchase into a first day purchase. They've achieved a great feat with this game, I, personally, have never seen such destruction in a game. You can make buildings fall by taking out all the right supports, which is pretty bitchin.

I do, however, fully expect the story to suck, but the multiplayer should make up for it.

I dunno about this one, the marketing has really made me lift an eyebrow. First their really horrible "viral teaser" and then they make the demo only available if you preorder the game (acting like their game is as good as Killzone 2). Oh and the fact that I hate THQ... has me really disliking the game already before playing it.

Seems like a few of you are liking it though, so maybe I'll give it a chance. :-k

Making you work for a demo of a game that will get a price drop 2 weeks after release is stupid.

I really dug this demo. Blowing shit up has never been this fun, and knowing that they construction of the buildings is semi-realistic, it makes you kind of think about how to take things down properly, since they will topple realistically. I'll be picking this game up, definitely.

It was actually not that bad although, I had to get used to the 3rd person controls. Also, the axe was a lot more useful than trying to shoot someone in the head. Or if you don't want to deal with it all together just get in a tank and run everyone over.

Loving this game so far, just completed the first area. Oh man, the only thing this game is missing is allowing XMB music or radio stations in the cars and local co-op during the regular game. Still the local "pass-the-controller" destruction mode is very awesome anyway.

Maybe someone can clear this up:

It advertises as an open-game world with so-and-so number of missions. If you do a mission, kill a bunch of bad guys and destroy a bunch of stuff, does the AI constantly go after you throughout the rest of the game?

It's like GTA in that you have a 'wanted' level type thing going. You do a mission get the EDF pissed off and they will chase you till you lose them long enough or get to your hideout. You can generally stroll around scott free then until you kill someone, steal a EDF vehicle, go into a secured area, that type of thing.

It is quite cool to see other guerrillas come out of the woodwork to help you against EDF.

I'm really enjoying this game. I'm still working on the second area 'Dust'. I keep getting interrupted with taking out couriers or convoys. I think I've read online that you don't necessarily have to do them, but I can't let one get away. ;)

The multiplayer is tons of fun too. Especially if you can team up with a few guys with mics. My favorite is seige where each team takes turns defending/ destroying certain buildings. Feel free to send me a party invite if you see me online. :)

Some of the battles towards the end get pretty hectic on anything but casual difficulty. At one point towards the end (wont go into story) there were about 20 - 25 guerrillas fighting with me against 40 or so EDF soldiers runnning around with a bunch of APCs along with 3 tanks and 3 flyers in the air all firing at you at once.

Just finished the single player mode last night and moved onto the multiplayer now.

The demo was ok for me, but I saw a map and was wondering if the game was like Far Cry 2; the map looks big with a ton of missions and while I enjoyed playing FC2, I noticed that with sandbox games I have fun with gameplay but if there are a million things to do and travel time slows the pace down dramatically, I lose interest quickly. Is this an issue at all?

Can you use rocket launchers to dig holes into mountains?

I use to play RF with a buddy multiplayer and we would dig holes into the levels and see how far we could go and play hide and seek. Eventually, after digging quite a ways, we would run out of ammo or the wall would just "harden" up and as soon as you left it would reset itself.

Yeah, good stuff. I enjoyed that Onslaught-ish mode with the nodes. The backpacks add a nice twist to the gameplay, too. I loved stealthing by one of our nodes and waiting for someone to walk by.

How many people are playing this online? It would be cool if we could get some CAG-on-CAG games going.

And that reminds me... with all the sound channels turned down except for voice, it seriously sounds like a porno game. Can't wait for my headset to show up.

CAG-on-CAG violence would be fun. I LOVE sticking the remote mines to players!:bouncy: I can't wait until I can drop a fucking bridge on someone! We did pretty well in the reconstruction mode but a couple of the matches were nothing but a rocket launcher fest. A couple of the team deathmatch games we were getting killed by salami..

No problem, Randy. I may have jumped into a game, which messed up the party invite. Sucks that people can't join in the middle of a round, even if there are slots open.

I was so embarrassed... during that last siege I swore we were attacking the first round and probably damn near destroyed a building or two on my own...
At one point I said "Wow, this is a great spawn" then preceded to toss all my remote charges on the target without moving from my spawn location.

Also, stupid lag. I had someone smash me with a rhino... but on my screen they activated it fuck far away and it deactivated about 10 feet away from me but it still smashed me.

And yay for sledgehammers from across the room... which never worked for me.

 at the guy who was bitching about "handicapped".

Yeah... Sucks too, we probably would've won that round if I wasn't such a dumbass. We damn near won anyways, that was the one that came down to the time bonus since both teams destroyed all the targets.

I was looking through the Red Faction blog a little and saw a couple nice upcoming playlist changes (http://community.redfaction.com/content/playlist-changes-coming-soon):

1. We're going to break open the "Team Objective" playlist into each specific mode. Instead of "Team Objective", you'll see headings for "Capture the Flag", "Damage Control", and "Demolition". Lots of players have been asking for this and it should allow our multiplayer community to really get into the specific game mode they most enjoy.

2. We're reducing the frequency for the Rockets/Grinder/Jetpack loadout across the board. Again, based on community feedback, we want to ensure that our playerbase continues to enjoy themselves, no matter what playlist they pick.

More Demolition mode! And rockets showing up in seemingly every other game is getting pretty annoying, so I'm looking forward to that as well.

That is excellent news. The matches where the rockets are standard to start with are far to frequent and becomes annoying after a few minutes of playing.

GTA and Warhawk are the only nights I won't/can't give up. I'm still sick of Killzone 2 after getting the honor trophies and R2 is kinda dying since TMK stopped playing, as usual.

And I say hell yeah, just start a new thread, a lot of games have one for general discussion and one for multiplayer discussion.

I try to make the CAG night when I can, namely the GTA night. But, I still play R2 usually the co-op stuff split screen with my son, I STILL have not unlocked every thing in Killzone 2. I am surprised how fast KZ2's community in general has died down.. I just have a hard time parting with my games, case in point Warhawk, it's a fun game with split screen enabled, but I doubt I could get much for it anyway so I guess I would be better off keeping it. Just in case I get the itch to play it again.
