Just curious if some use their laptops for prolonged sessions, or like some use their desktops, etc. I'm ashamed to admit that I've either forgotten my laptop was on for a day (or two), but I have a laptop cooler running with it most of the time and it is on the power source of course, or purposely left it on for the day as I constantly came back to it.

At least a month, when my desktop's internet was cut off.
But then again, I have a Thinkpas X61 (best hardware you'll get in a laptop) and I was running Ubuntu (super stable).

I don't turn mine off because my power button is shady. I spilled my bong on it on Christmas Eve of 2007 and it hasn't worked since (aside from a few missing keys, it still works like a charm). I restart it when I have to for updates or whatever, but aside from that it's always on.

My first laptop was a desktop replacement, so it was almost never off. Second and third I tend to turn off every night, though sometimes they'll be on for a day or two.

I know plenty of people who have laptops as their main systems and never shut them down completely. They hibernate while in transit but might go months without a true shutdown.

For the OP's purposes I think hibernating counts as a shutdown.

I've left it on a couple of days because I had torrents running.

My laptop IS my main system, and I"m always downloading something, so it's rarely off.

Its never off unless I'm going to school for the whole day and don't feel like grabbing the power cord *thankfully i get about 5 hours!*....but I do constant restarts

If you need a cooler to keep your laptop from getting hot while it just sits there turned on a couple of days, somethings probably not right.

Current uptime on mine is 3 days and a couple hours. That includes some time in hibernation though. I routinely go a week between restarts, and its on and running whenever I'm at home.

I work all day every day on my Macbook. It often doesn't even sleep for days or weeks at a time.

One of my laptops I shut off and on throughout the week. The other one never shuts off.
The desktop is also on 24/7 unless the power is out.

I've left my macbook on for well over a month (sleeping when I'm not using it). I rebooted for updates, not stability.

I can't bring myself to leave it on for more than a couple of days, I feel like it'll start acting screwy if I don't let it rest, plus it feels like a waste and wears down the hardware to have it on/idling when I'm not using it.

I leave my Macbook on/open for several hours on a weekend. I put it to sleep every night and only do a complete shutdown every week or so.

I put it on hibernate when I'm not using it myself.

I've left my old laptop on for about 14 days with a cooler under it when I use to live in the dorms. But now, I rarely leave my current laptop on over night unless it needs too since electricity is not free

I fell asleep thus leaving my laptop over night and felt kinda bad for it. I shut it down if im not gonna use it for a couple plus hours.

I never turn off my computers. Why would I?
