Apparently, it's the greatest hits from GH I-III and Rocks the 80's, but with a full band. I'm interested.

So is Pantera another one of those bands that don't own the original masters and have to make due with live version?

I wish I could play all of the songs from GH1 and GH:80s on my 360. I don't need full band versions of them, just guitar.
So is Pantera another one of those bands that don't own the original masters and have to make due with live version?
Probably a matter of Phil vs. the rest of the band.

Probably a matter of Phil vs. the rest of the band.
That was my second guess. I Still find it pretty cold that he wasn't invited to Dimebag's funeral.
Does Phil own the name then or what?

I'd rather have more songs from I, II, and III than anything off of 80s.
I might buy this after it drops in price a bit.
So maybe a year from now.

Nah it won't. Too many people will buy it, regardless.
I know what you're saying, but it was bound to happen, and even if they lose a few fans/buyers, it won't affect their cash flow.

This is actually a good concept... getting full-band versions of these songs with MASTER recordings is a very worthwhile effort. I wish it was segmented into DLC instead of a separate game though.

no Sabbath WTF
Disappointed with the GH2 tracks especially since a good chunk of the ones I would have wanted are already in Rock Band through DLC. I would have really liked to have seen "Possum Kingdom" and "John the Fisherman".

Agreed. I already own GH1-3 & 80s on PS2, so while I'm willing to pay for the convenience of having a bunch of those songs on 360, I'm not willing to pay more than $30.

So there are a few good benefits.
That said, I'm probably not gonna be getting this so I can totally understand where you're coming from. :D

yeah, thats a nice treat, but like PR i own all the other games already for PS2/360. Now if they had an import function ala Rock Band, that might tempt me into spending a little more. Swapping discs is frustrating, play one set list, but swap a disc to play a couple other songs.

This is good news for me as well since I just got into Guitar Hero after III and I don't want to buy the older ones, even though they're cheap, because of the different note indication.
Did not click the link. If it's a value-priced game (20-40 bucks) than I MIGHT get it. If not, forget it. I've played half those songs in my DLC anyway

I've got an Amazon preorder for this game. Can't wait for it!!! I thought GH: World Tour had a pretty awful set list. I quit playing the game about halfway thru because the second half of songs looked awful. Metallica and this Smash Hits are saving my feelings on the GH games.

The GH3 setlist for Smash Hits:
Pat Benatar - "Hit Me With Your Best Shot"
Living Colour - "Cult Of Personality"
Heart - "Barracuda"
Kiss - "Rock And Roll All Nite"
AFI - "Miss Murder"
DragonForce - "Through The Fire And Flames"
Priestess - "Lay Down"
Slayer - "Raining Blood"
Kiss? Really? I remember playing that song in GH3 and being bored most of my time with that song since before the chorus there was a waiting period. I Figure they could at least put "Slither" eventhough it was a DLC song, but it was used in the commercial and all. That and no Muse is no surprise with the whole Warner thing, but in the very least got Raining Blood.
Now to wait for this to drop to 20 or 30.

They haven't "overnoted" any charts since GH3. Infact their charts are far better and more realistic than Harmonix as of lately. A prime example of this is "Lazy Eye".

No Knights of Cydonia and they're recharting GH1 and GH2 songs? Knights of Cydonia is kind of made up for by Beast and the Harlot, but it's still a huge omission.
$30, I guess, because those are two super huge negatives for me. It makes no sense to rechart the songs. :/

Before anyone twists this into something it isn't, what i'm going to say is 100% true:
Harmonix threw a hissy fit when Neversoft got the liscence from Activision and took away all assets and all pre-made charts and such from Neversoft. The goal of this? To sue them. So Neversoft can't re-use the GH1,2,80s charts at all.

It would be trolling if I didn't give any examples, but if you want I can break down exactly how Harmonix over charts in three words:
Charts Echo Effects
Where's Neversoft doesn't, hence "Lazy Eye".

Because I don't want to hear a fuckin' thing about it beforehand.

I will, I got GH: Aerosmith from my Target bargain shelf, orange tagged at $9.
And GH:WT for $19 at MC was a deal. fair.
Which is about right, still after my last GH experience they are both in the backlog so I can't say if either was worth it yet.

GH:A and GH:3 sucked, but I thought GHWT was better than RB2, mostly cause of the set list, which is of course, my opinion, but GH:M is the best rhythm game to date, fundamentals wise.
And i'd say GH:WT is more than worth $19, between the open bass note, the sustain notes, which are two amazing innovations that make it seem fresh, and the set list is very, very good.

I just hope Neversoft doesn't re-do the guitar notes for the GH1 and GH2 songs.
The vast majority of these songs were covers. Of course they are going to be re-charted. Despite being well charted, they were well charted for a different version of the songs. I doubt any of them would work right just carrying over to a master track.

Picked this game up from TRU for the $20 giftcard offer (had wanted to get Ghostbusters , but they were OOS). I'll post impressions once I've played through it some. As a warning though , I'm not that great at Guitar Hero/Rock Band so I don't know how good my impressions will be.
I don't plan on keeping the game either way. I'm just going to just play through it a bit then probably throw it up on goozex. If someone wanted to trade for it (perhaps Ghostbusters? ;)) I'd be up for that if someone was interested. :shameless plug:

I picked it up from the TRU deal. Its pretty good, I am liking it better than World Tour but its still no Rock Band. I'll probably just beat the guitar and drum careers and then offer it up for trade.
