You should play with us guys that suck. That will make it less painful and I'm not sure about everyone else, but I'll have fun playing single player anyhow.
What's the single-player mode line-up like, anyways? Please tell me it more than just arcade and training modes.

Edit: Another reason to hate on the 60$ sf4. Why does the 15-20$ games get lobby mode arguably the best mode for a console fighter game. It's $20 at GameStop now, so I think I'm going to choose SF4 over this for my fighting game until Tekken 6 comes out. I'm not into fighting games too much, but I don't have one for 360 and I want to try to have a game for each genre. SF4 at $20 seems a better choice than this for $15. Most agree with that, right?

depends. Versus mode and playing with friends IRL is good stuff in SF4 but if you are playing the game alone and need to play it over XBL...hard to say. SF4 only allows you to vs 1 other person. not fun.
Lobby mode/quarter rooms are amazingly fun. I think it made sf2hdr last longer for me because I was able to play and watch others play in rotation.
Then again 20$ for sf4 seems about right. its a great fighter with more depth w/ FADC, ultra/revenge meters...but triangle jumps are hella fun!

What time do they usually add everything? I assume its early in the morning, but maybe I'm wrong. I can't wait either way. Its so close now I can feel it!

XBL usually updates at 2am PST, so that's when I and others should expect it to be up

But as soon as Someone starts using INFINITE Combos that will be an immediate disconnect for me.

Infinite combos are part of the game. thats why the damage is scaled. just like throw abuse in sf2hdr, camping awpers in cs, killing someone in 1GCD in wow, ringouts in soul caliber, what about rufus's ex mesiah kick > FADC > Ultra or Sagat's tiger uppercut > FADC > Ultra.

its not a cheat, throws dont let you do anything outside of the first frames which gives you damage. What about basic super abuse like Hyper Viper beam? you can combo that all day when slightly above the ground. thats not an infinite since it depends on a super meter but it will kill you. or sentials hp>rocket punch > special. it combos into itself until u run out of super meter.

Just because you made your own rules for the game and decided they aren't "legit" doesn't mean they are cheats. as you said it yourself Dozens of infinites are possible in this game. if you dont want to fight with them, dont but do not make up crap and say people are cheating because they are actually playing the full game.

Honestly I do not think infinites/ super long combos are that bad. I use to play this game in arcades faithfully and only came across Evo type players twice the whole time. Both times I got my ass handed to me and I ENJOYED it. You know why, because it takes mad skill to play like that! Both times I congratulated them and asked for tips, in which they happily assisted me.

I never get mad when playing Capcom fighters. The only time I get pissed is when you have flow chart Ken, Ryu, ect. since that takes no skill to spam fireballs.

Stoked for this!!! I have it on Dreamcast already, but after investing in a 2-player 360 arcade stick, it'll be totally worth it to own this version as well. I will enjoy fucking around with low-tier characters, since I was never a "serious" player anyway. And if I happen to get halfway decent at the game during that process, then so be it! Time to whip out my old $0.01 strategy guide that I found at a local Gamestop a few years back...

Gonna take you for a ride!!!

Does this work like most arcade games, where you can play music on your 360 to replace the in-game soundtrack? It would be maddeningly funny if this was the one game where you couldn't do that. As... oddly charming as it was, the music in this game was weird as hell and I'd love to just swap it out for some techno music or something!

stayed up from 4am-7am playing online in quarter rooms. a lot of fun. I need to learn some low tier characters because i feel bad playing mag/sent/psylock when people are picking megaman or hulk. no lag online from what i can tell. Had one person disconnect on me I guess because mag/psylock slide > hypergraph shanangians. Also played a pretty defensive storm/sent/CapCom which rolled me.

Overall fun online jman. it must be using the exact same network code as sf2hdr because the only hiccup I got ingame was when someone DC'd from the match.

What about alternate colors and stuff like that? Those aren't a big deal, but it bugged me when they just left out a lot of the little cosmetic unlockables in Puzzle Fighter HD Remix.

Yeah, colors are unlocked too.Ahh, cool. I will miss having them as a "goal" of sorts, but at least there's achievements to fill that void. Obviously the multiplayer is the real draw here but I still like having a tangible excuse to plow through the arcade mode a few times.

Actually the achievements are gonna be more fun than that silly points system they used for the Dreamcast unlockables, so that's cool!

Freaking hype. Buying it when I get home. Interesting though, I didnt see an achievment for a mega man themed team (Mega man, Roll, Tron Bone, Servbot). Seems like beating it with any 3 if them (specially servbot) should net you some good points.

That isn't too hard. Using Wikipedia's list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_vs._Capcom_(series))...

Avengers: Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Thanos, War Machine
X-Men: Cable, Colossus, Cyclops, Gambit, Iceman, Juggernaut, Magneto, Marrow, Omega Red, Psylocke, Rogue, Sabretooth, Sentinel, Silver Samurai, Spiral, Storm, Wolverine
Vampire Hunter: I'm guessing Darkstalkers, so Anakaris, Baby Bonnie Hood, Felicia, Morrigan
Street Fighter: If you can't figure this one out, you shouldn't be playing this game. :D

The nerd in me wants to know whether "X-Men" includes the Brotherhood mutants like Magneto and Sabretooth, but I guess we'll figure that out down the road. "Avengers" won't include anyone not part of the core group (as shown by the guy who had Spidey in the team but didn't get the achievement)...which makes sense, since probably half of the Marvel universe has been in the Avengers at one point or another. I've got doubts about Thanos and War Machine for the Avengers achievement, so that means that Cap, Iron Man, and Hulk are your best bet there.

hope u have cyclops as AA the upper cut thing which is hot. Uhh DHC for storm sent is pretty over powered.
Pretty much as storm - lk>lp>hk>sj.lk>lp>lp>lk>lk+hp> QCF lp+hp xxx QCF lk+hk> hp >qcf hp

timing on the QCF lk+hk is a little tight? pretty much right when storm finishes her special and the opponent begins to fall do sents rocket punch special. I tap heavy punch each time it hits to get the timing right for the "hp > qcf hp" finish. The first part of the combo is sorta bnb stuff for storm. just a simple luncher into lightning punch>special. works well but with sent as next in line u can do some serious damage w/ 2 meters.

sent - lpx2>qcf lp> qcf LK+HK pretty nice combo when people are all over ure shit. timing make take a bit to get used to. u can do it too slow and not connect and too fast where u cancel the qcf lp before it hits.

Edit: There is a bunch more basic play for storm and sent. storm qcf hk > QCB LP+HP combos good to hit assist characters.

The sp achievements are easy as hell.

Turn damage up to 4 in the options
choose Easy mode
all projectile assists
no continues

Avengers- team of 3 Iron Men, spam qcf+p
Darkstalkers - 3 B.B. Hoods, spam b,f+p or b,f+k
X-men - 3 cables, spam HP and throw in qcf+p
World Warriors - haven't done this yet, but I'm assuming Ryu or Akuma would be easy to spam with

throw in some assists and use supers; change out characters before they die and use hyper combos if you want

The CPU gets wise a bit, but mixing the spam with some slight skills to push them back will get you everything. The last boss is the easiest match-- beat the first two normally, but save up your meter and kill the last form with one hyper combo

Do you need to win by KO and not time for the sp achievements? I didnt unlock the SF one with 3 Ryus, and the only reason I can think of was because I timed out on a stage, but I still won.

I was able to get the Avengers with 3 Iron Mans, and the Xmen with 3 Cables pretty easily. Interesting how Avengers gets you 20 while the others only get you 10.

What button assignment are you arcade stick users doing? Because I have six face buttons like a traditional Street Fighter cabinet but it appears the game only has 2 punches and 2 kicks, the other two being assist buttons. However, I'm used to using all six buttons for punch and kicks because I'm used to Street Fighter games and I haven't played Mv.C games in forever. I'm sure that the cabinets had the traditional six button layout and that brought the concept of 2 punch, 2 kick, and 2 assist. However, it's throwing me off coming from SFIIHD Remix and SFIV. Any ideas?

LP HP ASSIST 1
LK HK ASSIST 2

either use the american straight across layout or the japanese curved layout. I prefer the japanese because its easier to slide my fingers from LP+HP to HK. ASSIST 1 = Second character on your team. ASSIST 2 = the bottom character on your team.

Anyone else dissapointed that the people getting it on PSN gotta wait 2 more weeks? I was just gonna buy it on xbox but dont own an arcade stick (prefer the PS controller anyway) and my one buddy only owns PS3. Damn, all this talk of people playing is driving me nuts. About to just double dip and get it for both systems but being too much of a CAG to do it.

So DL'd and started playing last night (I suck!) and teh funnies happened.

I was Jill Valentine and I summoned a Zombie. Then I summoned a Raven, which flew down and hit the zombie in the back of the head, knocking it over. But the zombie fell forward, right at the feet of my opponent and it quickly grabbed their legs and started munching.

It's like a retarded combo!

online is good...I had 1 laggy ranked match last night. played 20games. I actually faught him twice, the second time it was smooth so I dunno what the deal w/ that 1 game. :whee: best game to compare it to is sf2hdr since it probably uses the same netcode.

I noticed in player match rooms if you pick low tier typically other players will pick the same type of characters. But if u go all santhrax(storm, sent, capcom) they will pull out higher tier characters as well. so im definitely digging online. ranked obviously u wanna pick the best characters to win. quarter rooms are great fun.

What arcade sticks is everybody using? I've perused the Arcade stick thread, and it seems I want a HAPP stick for MVC2, but I'm not particularly sure where I would get one for a decent price.

If HAPP sticks aren't actually available for retail (i.e. you need to mod it in), what other sticks have a nice hard spring to the stick thats good for MvC2?

I ask here instead of the stick thread because, well, The only fighting game I'm really playing at the moment is MVC2 so I figured I'd ask those who are playing it

There are some independent companies like Arcade In A Box that will make them though. So you could go for something like this: http://aiabstore.com/product.sc?categoryId=12&productId=12 It costs more than a T.E. but if you are dead-set on using HAPP style controls (which I can understand!) then it's one of your best bets.

Your only other option would be to contact a custom stick builder or order a bunch of parts yourself! Believe me though, I feel your pain, I put a lot of time and thought (and $$$) into getting a custom U.S.A. style joystick setup for my 360!

If you aren't that committed to HAPP though then you might as well get a T.E. as others have suggested. It seems to be the best out-of-the-box Japanese style joystick out there, and it was designed by a CAG!

tbh I dont care for happs sticks at all. I know they are the favorite amongst mvc2 players but the HappComp stick I had had a crazy spring in it. if u hold left and let go it would bounce and input right. then again i started play mvc2 at a namco arcade which had it in a jap cabinet so I got used to that layout and stick.

It would be awesome for madcatz to create another stick but w/ all the planning and work they put into the sf4 stick I dont see it happening for this game. Also note I do not believe u can swap a happ comp stick into a SF4 TE stick. believe the mounting plate is different and also its way too long.
Edit:

if u can somehow jam it into the case...it will be practically attached to the bottom of the case

It was great for teleports in Mortal Kombat and I imagine it would have been handy for super-jumps in the Vs games as well.

That was on my semi-retired "backup" stick though (X-arcade, I didn't know better!). I'd love to get a similar springiness on my new stick... I'm afraid of getting it TOO springy though cuz I'd hate to be triggering things by accident (just like you were talking about)!

I played for an hour with sean last night...and maybe won one match.

Button mashing actually worked okay for the characters I'd never used before, although my opponents never had much trouble taking me down in those matches.

Servbot vs. Servbot was a LOT of fun. :D

Also wanted to add that this is the only fighting game in which I don't get mad or frustrated after losing.

Same here. Maybe it's because I'm going in expecting to lose.

Looking to play some people tonight, hopefully in about an hour or so.

I have to say, I'm quite happy with my SE stick. The only compliant that I have is something due to me being nit picky and wanting to feel corners (To keep it simple: The restrictor plate is square, so the stick has a nice even flow. I'm weird and want to feel edges, but this is something I intend to mod myself).

The biggest complaint you'll hear besides people being picky about the buttons is a issue with the Washer. Apparently, the first couple of batches of these fightsticks, have a washer that comes undone inside the joystick that can actually damage it. I believe MadCatz has fixed this, and will fix it for free should it occur.

So if there's nothing I can say or do to convence you to grab the TE version of the stick (Which is quite nice and I honestly wish I saved a few bucks and went for instead) I think you'll be happy with the SE.

Going back on topic; Man is this game fun and a good relaxer before work.

So I think I've narrowed it down to a couple of different choices (I cant justify buying a TE though).

Get the SE or save up a little more for the TE, they are much better mod-ability wise. The SE is actually just as good as a TE after you switch out all the buttons, and the decline in the palm rest is very comfortable. I been through all 3 sticks and I love my TE's. But I also modded a SE before I sold it and loved it the same way. If you aren't into fighting games, then maybe a EX2 is good for the casual. But if you intend to use it everyday or other day like me then you'll want something superior.

Like someone said the SE had the washer problem but it seems to be all squared away with. If you are anything like me after playing with a stick you might not even want to touch a controller again. I'm holding off on controller play til ODST and MW2. Fighting games are my #1 priority now. Time is too short to get good at all these fighting games coming out now, but fighting games will never be the same with a controller.

I hope you make the right choice, it'll be worth it in the end. I found out first hand. I could've purchased a PS3 but instead I chose to get 2 TE's for my 360, hate if you must, bbut I couldn't be happier.

Pro Tip of the Day, LOL.

edit: I'm retarded, I just read that you did order the TE, Great choice, I'm proud of you.

Things I learned from playing online, day 1 doesn't mean shit(went 14-3). Currently 28-24 or something like that.
Tboone projectile assist hurts a lot but easy to avoid. Fly away Magneto!! WOOOSH!

Snapouts are fun, until u snapout their main to get to their assist.... to have ure main rolled by their assist character. Its very embarassing. :(

A lot of people like ironman psylock to do his inf, its cool but most players suck at getting his special to connect. Thats where u can punish them hard.

Also when rushing down, you must be defensive. If not you get caught too often by poke/assist damage and find yourself needing to assist out.

Online is good fun though, would like to see a cag game night !!
Edit- yet to run into a crazy good player. About 6-7years ago I used to go up to Nickel City in Northbrook IL where a bunch of the midwest fighter players went to. The marvel players their would control the match with a single hit. yet to see people really take advantage of the character drop ins during deaths or snapouts besides the occasional Cable j.HP >Super crap.

This is the worst explained achievement I can think of. Not only is the actual way you unlock it complicated, but it's a ridiculously difficult one to get. I have all of the other achievements already, but I don't think I'm going to put much effort in on that one.

Im getting a lot of quits in the lobby, which then kicks me out and leaves me at a screen which has that blue backround but now its stuck and I have to go back to dashboard to play again. Its not like you can see who you're playing against, wonder if its just a bad connection....

Yeah that is really annoying. You can only see the " (A) Accept" thing at the bottom, right?

Yup, thats the one. Its just a minor inconvience, but still, I'd rather get back into the game quicker than have to go around the problem.

HD Remix had this problem too. The online multiplayer is awesome when you actually connect, but we you can't (for whatever reason), it does this crap from time to time. I'm to the point now that if the match doesn't start in 5 seconds of me and the opponent being there, I back out myself so it doesn't happen.

Well, its based off of pts, not w/l, so thats why I see people with 120/100 as well as 7/4 around me. However, not sure why a 0/2 would be mixed in unless that have a lot of pts

Good ol' MVC2. Sent/Storm/Commando/Mag/Psy/Cable and sometimes Cyke... especially from the guys at the top of the leaderboard, who always, ALWAYS wait for the counterpick, despite having used the same team for the last 50 matches.

Can't never not stop practicing for Evo? Do you even know there's 56 characters in the game? Ever tried anything outside the top tier? It's been 9 years, aren't you bored of...

Sent: "Fly/Unfly/Fly/Unfly/Assist/Fly/Punch/Unfly/Fly/Unfly/Assist/Fly/Punch"

Storm: "Runrunrunrunrunrunhailrunrunrunrunhail"

Mag: "lk, lk, assist, lk, lk, lk, lk, lk, lk, lk, lk, lk, lk, lk..."

And whatever you do, don't talk over the mic, just treat the other player to the loud clacking of your sanwa buttons getting destroyed, and the occasional mouth-breather grunt. In fact, one of those guys at the top of the leaderboard grunted the whole match, like he was doing something obscene. :P

Love the game, hate the players. I did have a little fun getting all the achievements... but I felt guilty after the 50 one-character victories. And for every other match I win, no matter who I use, I get "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" player ratings. So what's "sportsmanlike", Sentinel kill combos? No, wait... Iceman/Ironman keep-away beam chip with Doom anti-air, that must be it.

(Although... I probably deserved to be avoided for the Kobun chip-damage kill.)

Can't even catch a break in player matches, I get cursing and threats whenever I win. So I just stopped playing outside of my friends list.

Glad to see others are having fun, though. Now if only KOFXII had MVC2's net code...

schwartzvald:

If you're rolling on 360, hit me up for some games. I change teams all the time and generally don't know what the hell I'm doing. Also I have a great tendency to pull out the Legoman, which means you're guaranteed to knock one of my guys out in about 4 seconds.

Otherwise, fun rant to read. I'm generally of the same opinion, which is why I don't care to play randoms. Same with SF4 - I'm pretty terrible at it, so I don't know why people think they need to pull out Akuma or Sagat on me.

I really want to play online, but don't want to get beat to death. I play a cheese team in Cable, Iron Man, and War Machine kind of OK, but I LOVE trying new teams all the time. I just hate never having a chance and quite frankly I have a family and just can't put in the time to become unstoppable.

So, I didn't find anything about this using search, but I'm bad at that. Has anyone else had a problem finding multiplayer matches? I've been trying every day since it came out and I've found 2 games against online opponents. Does this mean my NAT settings are off? How can you tell in NXE, they seem to have taken away the NAT status in the network settings of the dashboard. Any help would be great!

And if anyone wants to play my GT is Giantjerk. I just mailed off my 360 for repair today, so it'll be a few before I can play again.

giantjerk, Sometimes, during the morning, the ranked servers go dead for me, and list no matches. Also, like a lot of other 360 games, a little latency or packetloss to a matching server will cause half-assed updates of game lists. If you hit refresh and keep getting few/no games, then yeah, you should start diagnosing your network for problems.

Yesterday's NXE patch put back some of the network checking application, I think... I remember finding a new Help tab under "My XBOX", and I found some XBOX Live and Network status helpers under there. That might help.

But really, the only think your router needs to work with XBL is "UPNP", turned on and working to proper specifications. The 360 will then request the ports it needs opened through UPNP. You don't need, and shouldn't have, any manual port forwarding set for the 360.

Without proper UPNP support, XBL game matching never works quite right, because there's lots of different connections, each game uses a different set of servers, et cetera. If you don't have a router that properly supports UPNP, I have a recommendation. :)

If you have UPNP working, then I would suspect you are making poor connections to the MVC2 matching servers. At that point, I'd suspect something in your house, like a faulty router or modem, or the rare possibility of crappy internet on the way to the MVC2 servers.

Strell, I'll hit you up for some games at some point. I have another friend who's an old west-coast hat at the game, maybe I can get him to join in too. Or maybe we should just set up a friendly CAG MVC2 360 night. I dunno.

Is there anyway to go back to the main menu from the character select screen? Also can you random select somehow?

Loving this game. Never really got hardcore into it before now. Just played it at the arcade back in the day a few times.

I've been kicking ass online, just got my 100 wins. I'm at 117 wins with 60 losses but most of those losses are from my brother.

Anyways great game. I play as T.Bonne/Thanos/Sentinal mostly.

Well, in the DC version I remember you could have just held down all 4 buttons and start, but I dont think it works here, or at least I havent tried yet. And no random, but that thing is pretty sensitive, you could just blindly look away and pick a few random chars.

As far as I can remember, they did have 2 of them. One is the original bone claws, while the other one has adamantium. Not sure if they have the same movelist since I dont play either of them much.

I'm really good at the game as long as people don't spam me to death. I always thought cable was cheap until I saw a guy use Strider as his main guy. Then spam Doom, and sentinel to no end. He uses the orbs for strider, and spams Doom/Sentinel so many times its well over a 100 per match.:bomb:

Press B to go to the exit room screen, leave it there.

If the match doesn't start, you will get out 100% of the time safely.

You're welcome.

Also, if anyone wants to play me hit me up. Don't expect me to pick low tier though, my lowest team is BB Hood/IM/Sent

You don't understand. I can't even hit B as it does nothing. I go to Multiplayer or Leaderboards and it gets stuck on the screen in the video above. It doesn't even get to the point where you are trying to connect to another player. The only way to get out is to exit to the 360 dashboard via the Xbox Media button.

I'm just 12 wins away from the 50 ranked wins achievement!! Woot!!

Back in the day my holy trinity was Cable/War Machine/Iron Man just for the crazy hyper combos, but I have since moved on to Cable/Juggs/Omega Red for ranked matches, with some small variations.

For everything else I'm completely random, although I do like themes with my teams.

We really should get 6 of us together to create a lobby one night.

Is it just me, or is anyone having trouble with the triggers as assists. Are they just not as sensitive for this game? I find it much easier to call out assist partners with my bumpers, but I have to click a few times if I attempt to use the triggers. Its ok, except my left bumper doesnt "click" but still works.

Is there a printable character moves list anywhere?

Well, considering the sheer ammount of characters, thats gonna be a long list. Gamefaqs has a few move lists in the game's FAQs section, along with some individual character guides.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to return to the title menu screen!!!

In the first one, you could just hold select and start. This one though....I can't figure it out at all! (well, except by exiting out the entire game)

Please....it can't be this hard. I must be overlooking something

only if i am not understanding your question. during a fight press Start, you get the pause menu....go to exit game. can't get to pause menu during character select and loading screens.

Yea, that's the answer....because I can only get back to the main menu via slecting characters and then exiting that way

I wonder why they couldn't make it like MVS 1 where you could just hold start/select at the character menu...
