I'm gonna start playing Star Wars KOTR today for my pc but with a heavy heart. I'm starting school next week and i don't want this to be one of the MANY games that i devote many hours to only to ditch and return later with no clue of where i am. Has anyone else gotten, lets say, about 50% or more into a game and never finished it? My main offenders are:
Final Fantasy Tactics with more than 150 hours in it
Both ps2 GTA games with more than fifty hours each
Final Fantasy VI with about 40 hours
And more that I can't even remember right now. I just hope i get through KOTR before school starts :(

Dude, what is up with your friends? I'd be pissed if someone deleted my saved data. Was it an accident?

Before I bought my XBOX, I would play Shenmue 2 at my job on the demo unit after I got off. I must have played 75% of that game, before I lost interest and stopped playing. When I bought my XBOX last year, I got Shenmue 2 with it, but can't pull myself to start it all over again.
Maybe if they made a part 3, I'll give it another spin...

Yeah, its hard to start again after you've gotten so far into a game. That was my problem with FF 3 on SNES, back when systems didn't have memory cards and i used to rent games. On two separate occasions i rented FF 3 and got about 40 hours into only to have to return it and end up getting another cartridge the next i rented it later. When i finally got the ps1 version i didn't feel like going through it again, and spending hours leveling up, for the third time.

Quite a few. Once I get a new game I forget about the old one and only pick it up again when I'm in the mood to play that genre. On top of that I usually start over and usually end up not finishing it again.
most recent was Tales of Symphonia i am about 45+ hours into it and just stopped.

Final Fantasy V - I was halfway through it, but got busy with school and didn't get to pick it back up.
Final Fantasy VI - It belonged to my neighbor. I borrowed it from him, and got about halfway through it. He wanted it back, so I gave it back to him. He then played my save game through to the end, saving over it as he went.
Final Fantasy Tactics - I put about 50-60 hours into this one a couple summers ago, but didn't finish it before school started. I got busy with school and haven't played it since then.
Looks like I'm shooting 50% on finishing Final Fantasy games: of the six I've started, I've finished three: IV, VII, and Mystic Quest.

Im stuck on the last boss in Vagrant Story, I think its like 3 years now (not that I have tried to play it often) I could play the boss for 2+ hours and not defeat him, my weapons must have sucked

Dark Cloud - on the final boss for quite some time but have never finished it
FF V - same deal...I hate X-Death
Super Mario Sunshine - wanted to love it cuz its Mario, but couldn't get into it enough to finish it
Stuntman - got through at least 2/3 of the movies, but the loading and repetitiveness blows so bad I just stopped playing
LotR: TT - was my g/f's brothers...we broke up...havne't played the game since
Paper Mario - can't even remember why I didn't finish this one...think I have about 5 of the 7 star power thingies
FF VI - Was a friends...he took it back after 40 hours in
I'm sure there are TONS more...those are off the top of my head.

b4 in the past i got far into a lot of games without finishing them, but a few months ago, i vowed to never play another game until i went back and finished them off....that included ffx, kingdom hearts, and quite a few others....after finishing those, i broke my vow because i started getting bored with final fantasy 1...so now i have final fantasy 1 and bg&e to beat b4 something else comes along....but i know ill break my vow again once katamari damacy finally arrives

oh yeah...i was somewhere in the middle of mario & luigi superstar saga and forget where ive been and where i havent been, so i just gave up on it a few months ago....thats what happens when you only play a game while you're taking a crap...5 minutes a day, if that
and ill defend enter the matrix til i die....let me start off by saying that im not a big matrix movie geek...the movies were okay, not great IMO...as for the game, it sucked for the first 5 minutes, until i got the controls down...than it just rocked...seriously....i never play through games twice due to time restraints, but i played this one twice with both characters....thats 4 times....fun times, seriously...

Dragon Warrior VII... actually, I think that game destroyed my ability to play standard RPG's forever (damned random battles). I was 80 hours in, still on disc one (fell asleep playing it a couple of times without saving, plus was trying to level up alot), and never picked it back up.

Super Mario Sunshine - Just didn't feel rewarding for the effort. Mario 64 kept me coming back but Sunshine was just frustrating.
Star Ocean 2 - Got to the climax area but got wiped out by this huge bird thing and never felt like going back. Too much suspicion the payoff would also be shoplifted from a Star Trek movie.
Granstream Saga - Just painfully bad, even for its generation.
Jak II - Got annoyed with having to watch the same animation sequence over and over because I didn't immediately master a particular obstacle.
Dragon Warrior VII - final battle is available but I just couldn't stay interested in building up the necessary levels.

Umm I got to the last boss on both KoTOR and FF Tactics and just didn't beat them and stopped playing both. Not really sure why with KoTOR, I just lost steam and never finished it. With Tactics I tried for three days to beat him and never got close so I gave up.
The only ones I can remember getting deep into and not finishing are:
Vexx - Couldn't defeat the final boss
GTA: Vice City - Couldn't beat final mission. After a bunch of tries I looked up codes and I figure I could eventually beat it using the health cheat, but I've only tried 2 or 3 times since then and kind of lost interest.
Dr. Muto - Don't know if I'd say I was really deep into this. Probaly somewhere around a 3rd to halfway into it. I just realized I wasn't having much fun with it and put it aside.
There have been a handful of other games I have set aside after not getting very deep into them at all. Turok: Evolution and Tony Hawk 4 come to mind.
Generally I try to stick with a game until I finish, no matter how many other new games I pick up in the interim because I know if I put a game aside for more than a few days to a week I probablly won't pick it up again. Like right now I'm playing through Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. I've hit a bug that crashed my game two times, which is total crap, but I've managed to muddle through and am close to crossing that off. (And this is one of those games that only lets you save at points, so having it crash as you are about to head back to a save point is like salt in the wound.) Oh and Sphinx would be about ten times better if they had popped for VO instead of just text subtitles. Sucks. (Imagine Beyond Good & Evil with no VO, not good.)
(Speaking of that I haven't played Elder Scrolls in a few weeks now... Ugh, maybe I should go ahead and trade it in/sell it?)

Kotor... got to the end and hadn't learned the right jedi powers to defeat the end guy.
Golden Sun 2.... put it down and got lost
GTA
Blinx... i got mad at it
Panzerdragoon Orta - i will probably eventually come back to this one
Splinter Cell - got boring
Animal Crossing... well you really can't play this to the end, but i quit after about four months
SMB, Mario Sunshine, Mario six coins
Well, that's a long enough list, there are probably about 5-6 more.... i did try to tell myself once that if I had to finish all my other games before i bought a new one... lasted two weeks...

Well, i finally did it, i BEAT KOTR! I'm glad i don't have to add that to my list, phew! By the way, the game is absolutely fantastic. It is the best rpg i've played in years.

I have a lot of games that I almost beat but never did. I only have a GBA so:
Broken Sword: Got far than got a fatal glich. I'm stuck in Spain.
Golden Sun: Got to final town, lost interest.
The Sims: Bustin' Out: Lost interest, friend is borrowing it.
Spyro: Season of Ice: Just kinda...not fun to play. Isometric view is not good.

Trust I agree with you on the matrix. If I had got a buggy version my opinion may be negative too but the one I rented worked fine. I think a lot of negativity that people had about the last two movies got directed to the game as well
As for my unfinshed games
FF-X about 15 hours in never really could get into this game
Vice city- The dropping off the porn flyers part drove me away with its difficulty
Metroid Prime- Got through the first boss and then lost interest

I have plenty of games that are in varying stages of "in progress"
Super Mario Sunshine
.hack Outbreak
XIII
Mega Man X7
Disgaea
Viewtiful Joe (GC)
Ikaruga
Those are all I can think of right now. I guess it's not too bad, considering. I've been trying to finish some. Just finished 007:Agent Under Fire the other day (I just lost interest in it). Now I'm working on finishing up XIII and working on the new games I picked up from CC recently (Mark of Kri, I-Ninja, Siren).

Mostly I don't even think about finishing a game it just doesn't matter to me . . . they are fun diversions and most don't hold my interest. I probably complete about 1/3 of the games I begin. RPGs are especially bad . . . just too hard to commit that much time.
I think Final Fantasy III would be one where I was 80% done and just said "ho hum, something else looks good" and never finished it.

Legend of Legaia, Threads of Fate, Xenogears, Secret of Mana, Arc the Lad collection, Arc the Lad spirits, Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter, Xenosaga, La Pucelle tactics, and every dragon warrior I've played. I find that a lot of games just get boring towards the end so I never finish them.

I own around 45 games for my PS2.
I've had these mostly for a year or more.
I've only beaten two.
Most recent: Played the HELL out of Star Ocean, just to give that a break for Gungrave, just to give THAT a break for Katamari Damacy, and now I'm going back to FF XI.
I have some I've never even opened...just...have..the...compulsion to...BUY!!!!!

I'm pretty good about not starting a new game until I complete what I'm working on.
I got to Act IV in Diablo II when my PC started having frame rate issues so I never played it again.

Oh yeah, and Shinobi for PS2. I got up to the final boss, spent 7 hours trying to beat him and gave up. Then a friend erased my save file from the final level. So I replayed the entire game, and still couldn't beat the final boss. It's been a few months since I even picked up the game, I don't think I'll ever beat it.

I'm not sure, but it's a lot. I've bought a lot of games cheap, so I end up playing some games once, and end up moving on to something else. I have at least 20 Xbox games, 10 Gamecube games and 5 or so PS2 games that I've started, but not finished.
It's just that when I begin playing through a game, something new goes on sale or is marked down, I end up buying it, and pay attention to that. I've been meaning to go back and actually PLAY the games I've bought in the past, but I've got to get through other games to get to those. At least I always have something to paly, though.

Metroid Fusion - I can't kill the damned SA-X.
R&C: GC - No idea how far but easily 15-20 hours invested
Kingdom Hearts - 15 hours in
...
I'm certain there are others.

Too many to count... way too many to list. I haven't had time to play games for about five years. But for some reason I keep buying them...

jade cocoon 2 - got to the last boss, but he's too strong for me to beat. So the only places to level up are ones that are way too easy to beat, thus making leveling up tedious.

Wind Waker- Have Earth and Wind Temples left.
FFTA- Just needed to go to the final battle, never did. Traded it.
GTA, GTA VC.- TONS of hours in both, mostly just random running around, killing, sexing up hookers, etc...
KOTOR-almost done, i think.
I need to start beating the games i have before getting more.
