Armored Vault 13 Suit – Extensively patched up and dotted with piecemeal armor, this outfit is an homage to the classic ending of the original Fallout.
Vault 13 Canteen – This handy device is useful for staving off dehydration and providing a small amount of healing in the Mojave Wasteland.
Weathered 10mm Pistol – A well-worn 10mm pistol that packs an extra punch despite its modest size.
5 Stimpaks – Food and water are good for long-term healing, but when the fighting is fierce, Stimpaks help keep Wastelanders upright.

Tribal Raiding Armor – Pieced together from scraps of armor, this outfit provides protection without impacting mobility.
Broad Machete – This heavy-bladed melee weapon does high damage against limbs and can quickly deal out a flurry of attacks.
5 Bleak Venom doses – Useful on any Melee Weapon, Bleak Venom makes short of work of most living targets.
10 Throwing Spears – If you would like to silently pin an enemy’s head to a wall, Throwing Spears are the way to do it.

Lightweight Leather Armor – This hand-modified suit of leather armor reduces its overall weight without impacting its ability to protect.
Sturdy Caravan Shotgun – Despite its rough appearance, this Caravan Shotgun will reliably fire 20 gauge shells until the Brahmin come home.
4 Repair Kits – Useful for repairing any outfit or weapon, Repair Kits are a valuable tool for any caravaner.
Binoculars – The Mojave Wasteland is a dangerous place, but with these trusty Binoculars you’ll be able to spot trouble coming.

The Mercenary Pack, available when you pre-order through Best Buy (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1312731-10597222?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bestbuy.com%2Fsite%2 Folspage.jsp;jsessionid%3DAAE935AFB54E992F7851DC5E 91CD1CC2.bbolsp-app05-21%3F_dyncharset%3DISO-8859-1%26_dynSessConf%3D8652636541962513197%26id%3Dpcat 17071%26type%3Dpage%26st%3Dfallout%253A%2Bnew%2Bve gas%26sc%3DGlobal%26cp%3D1%26nrp%3D15%26sp%3D%26qp %3D%26list%3Dn%26iht%3Dy%26usc%3DAll%2BCategories% 26ks%3D960), contains:

Lightweight Metal Armor – Modified for long-range travel, this Metal Armor sacrifices some protection for mobility and overall weight.
Mercenary’s Grenade Rifle – Though similar to other 40mm Grenade Rifles in the Mojave Wasteland, this model has a faster reload cycle.
3 Super Stimpaks – When you absolutely, positively, need to keep your blood inside your body, Super Stimpaks fix you up in no time.
3 Doctors Bags – Mercenaries and broken limbs go together like Iguana-on-a-Stick and Nuka Cola. Thankfully, these Doctors Bags take a bit of sting out of the inevitable crushed skull.

-----------------------

At a Bethesda press event in London today, our very own Jem Alexander learned (http://twitter.com/Yembles/status/1565305994) of a brand new addition to the Fallout universe. Fallout: New Vegas will be available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 next year, courtesy of Alpha Protocol developer Obsidian Entertainment (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/obsidian).

No other details have been revealed yet, but we're certain Jem will lockpick and hack his way to as much information as he can. We'll feed him to the mutants if he doesn't.

Update: The title is "just Fallout: New Vegas. No number. It's not a sequel." For those worried this non-numbered expansion would be a party game, fret not. It's "definitely an RPG," according to Bethesda VP Pete Hines. Obsidian Entertainment was founded by Fergus Urquhart who, along with a few other Obsidian guys, worked on the original Fallout. The team was approached by Bethesda and "jumped at the chance" to work on this new title.http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/20/fallout-new-vegas-coming-to-consoles-next-year/

All we have at the moment. I'm sure once E3 rolls around, we'll hear more of this.

I bet it'll be late 2010 to mid 2011 before this is out, unless they rush it. Can't wait!

Well it's being done by another team so they have probably been working on it for a while.

True. I hope it's not rushed though. But then again, I don't want to be waiting 2-3 years for it. :P

I would have rather had an Elder Scrolls V announcement, but I guess this will do. I put way too many hours into Fallout 3.

I'm pretty sure the next Elder Scrolls is an MMO, unless they changed their minds.

There's gotta be a reason Bethesda isn't doing Fallout: New Vegas, and I'm thinking that it's because of Elder Scrolls!

I actually heard it wasn't MMO per se. It's a multiplayer game, but I've heard it limits itself to a party of about four or five. Which seems perfect, IMO.

Obsidian has a track record of bringing games out on time. I have a boner the size of Florida right now. With their work on Alpha Protocol I hope they bring a bit more weight to the battles that I felt Fallout 3 was lacking, more of a COD4 feel....Great news.

crunchb3rry
04-20-2009, 10:49 PM
Shouldn't take long to make. I imagine it would primarily be the existing Fallout game's assets, with maybe some minimal visual tweaks for lighting and whatnot.

There's gotta be a reason Bethesda isn't doing Fallout: New Vegas, and I'm thinking that it's because of Elder Scrolls!

It's definitely Elder Scrolls. A followup to Oblivion was all greenlighted and scheduled to come out like a year or two after Oblivion, but Bethesda managed to get hold of the Fallout license and put the next Elder Scrolls game on hold. I wouldn't be surprised if it's already half finished by now.

Hopefully they'll finally get item management right this time. Oblivion was a pain in the ass, especially with all the bugged quest items you couldn't even drop.

I imagine it will have some neon lights to counter-act the overwhelming presence of brown.

Vault 101 will be a Casino. You know what that means? Gambling and cheap buffets!

I thought the trailer was very UNDERWHELMING. I know it's similar to the Fallout 3 trailer on purpose, but THAT trailer worked because we had never seen Fallout portrayed in a full 3D world before. THIS trailer was just plain uninspiring.

I'll still get it, of course (when it's cheap enough), but 3 company stooges tweeting how Fallout fans are going to cream their pants after today's news built it up too much. Ok, maybe it wasn't THAT strongly worded, but I still expected better. I think I'd rather have just had a mess of in-game screenshots.

It's a teaser, and the game isn't due until the fall. Besides, if you're a fan of the Fallout series, seeing the NCR flag should have made you cream your pants, shit your pants, and beyond. I'm hyped. And I'm definitely interested to see how Vegas either survived the Great War or was actually rebuilt.

The teaser was what is was, a teaser.

So the name alone is the only thing that has me interested at this point. I hope they get some screenshots out soon. Because i want to see if it's going to be the same kind of gameplay mechanics as Fallout3. Or become something else new.

I am still trying to figure out why a robot in the desert needs a TV on it's chest? :P

Well, not only does he have a tv on his chest. But a "working" tv. :P

I guess after the apocalypse we be well assured to have tv's for our
entertainment.

I do wish the teaser was more like the Fallout3 one where you went through the bus and junk to the Brotherhood soldier.

Hmm...

Vegas looked in pretty decent shape with lights and buildings still standing (compared to DC which was basically annihilated in Fallout 3). The character dressed in black (a uniform?) and the NCR flag is interesting.

Perhaps the NCR is looking to expand their territories and Vegas is their place to take over? It'd be sweet if the game revolved around a war over the control of a still fairly functional Vegas, and even sweeter if you could play as a NCR solider or just a Vegas commoner trying to defend his ground.

bigdaddybruce44
02-06-2010, 05:04 PM
One thing they definitely need to have is another sweet soundtrack of oldies. The inclusion of "Blue Moon" in the teaser gives me hope. I'm gonna miss President Eden, though.

Lots of new info from NeoGAF:

# There is an optional hardcore mode, the character needs to drink water, ammo has weight, healing isn't instant etc.

# Normal mode is more similar to Fallout 3 gameplay.

# The storyline is focused on the New California Republic vs. Caesar's Legion (slavers from the east) vs. New Vegas residents.

# You are not a vault dweller but are given a Pip-Boy by someone who is one.

# There is a screenshot of a vault suit as well.

# There is an assault rifle looking like the M4, as well as a new big gun with a backpack, held like a minigun.

# There are special moves for melee weapons in VATS - specifically a move for a golf club called "Fore" which seems to be a groin shot.

# The Hoover Dam is in the game and is supplying electricity to the city.

# There is a quest to rescue a ghoul from some super mutants. The ghoul can then become your companion

# The Geckos are back.

# There are both dumb and intelligent super mutants, including the elite Nightkin. On at least one occasion you can convince them to fight amongst themselves.

# Some super mutants look similar to the ones in Fallout 3, while others are new. There is e.g. a female super mutant with a 1950s hairstyle who apparently is one of their leaders.

# Screenshots include a guy with a beard and straw hat, a ghoul and an NCR Ranger.

# The only picture of New Vegas itself is concept art and not a screenshot.

# Some location screenshots include a huge model dinosaur advertising a hotel, some satellite dishes, an array of solar panels

# A character generation shot showing a "vigour machine" instead of the skill book

# NCR base is the McCarran Airport, Caesar's Legion is based in the Vegas Strip, while super mutants are based in a place called Black Mountain.

# There is also a town called Fremont and another called Primm. A topless reuve is mentioned as being in the latter. Area 51 also appears.

# NCR Ranger armor is similar to a brown combat armor with sleeves, there are concept arts of a Ranger.

# Skils have a bigger effect on conversation choices. E.g. someone with a high Explosives skill may be able to have a coversation about explosives where appropriate.

# There is a Reputation system in addition to Karma.

# First-person action RPG with the same engine as Fallout 3.

# Set in the Mojave wastelands. Vegas didn't get many nukes. More intact buildings, as well as desert vegetation. Vegas itself is mostly intact.

# Both karma and reputation are tracked. If I'm reading it right there's separate reputations for each of the settlements, as in 1 and 2.

# All dialogue options are shown to all players, regardless of whether you have the stats to succeed or not, though there's no punishment for failure.

# Bartering is not just lower prices but negotiating for better rewards.

# Weapons also now have knock-back upon death, with shotguns sending people flying.

# Followers can be managed through a context-sensitive menu, with orders like "follow", "stay" or "attack".

# You're a courier, wounded and left for dead in a shallow grave. A friendly robot, Victor, digs you out, and his doctor owner Mitchell patches you up. You take a "vigour test", which is some sort of electric parlour game. This decides who you are and sets up SPECIAL. You can also take some Rorschach tests, but the mag says this is for fun. The Doc then gives you a Pipboy as he was once a Vault dweller.

# "Hoover Dam", and "Helios" (a solar plant, confirmed by the mag to have been built by Poseidon) are fought into and then you can direct the power to wherever you choose. In the case of Helios you can also keep the plant for your self, use the energy to call down a powerful laser, or even try to distribute to all equally, however there is a risk of overloading the reactors.

# There is a "reputation system", in which all three factions (NCR, Ceasar's Legion and the locals) will either see you as good or bad toward them individually.

# There is a screenshot of three Capital Wasteland mutants running toward the player, who is wielding what *looks* to be a heavy incinerator, but has a TV screen and no flamer fuel tanks. He's also wearing NCR combat armour, which is in gold/mustard colours.

# There are two separate screens of supermutants that look to be more local, grey skin, and the two are wearing very different clothes. One is Tabitha, who is hearing a blonde wig and love heart glasses. The mag implies she's "not all there".

# On that quest, you rescue Raul, a ghoul who Tabitha kept alive to fix her favourite robot. He appears to be a follower, as the mag says you can give him items, and also commands, such as "stay, follow or attack", and also tell him to switch to melee, in which case he'll mutter "sure, I'll put away my rather effective gun, and switch to this piece of um, metal tubing here".

# From what I read, the "all dialog" thing seems to imply there will be failures for skill checks as well as speech checks, though, as the mag states, there is no penalty for failing a skill check. In fact, the mag gives an example: A woman who the player tried a Sneak skill attempt on in conversation failed when convincing her an ambush would help the town be rid of a gang of raiders. She simply says "Good luck with your, uh, ambush"

# Vault 21 is in the game

It'd be cool if you could get some mode of transportation, like a rickety old motorcycle. You had a horse in Oblivion, why not?
This game is sounding and looking excellent, can't wait.

I have little doubt that unless I get rewarded for being helpers of the NCR or the Legion, I will be helping out my boys the Vegas locals.

I wonder if it will play out a bit like Mercenaries? In that, if you help out the Vegas locals you will upset the NCR, which will make the Legion like you, etc.?

just got finished reading it!

sounds so good, I'm just excited for every subtle change in the menus and everything, lots of little stuff always gets me. One thing I always complained about in Fallout 3 was not being able to upgrade the guns or modify them at all, so it's great news to hear they're working on that.

Not sure what to think of the "companion wheel".

Rather than taking the G.O.A.T. test from the Vault, you'll have to partake in a psych evaluation given by the doctor who nurses you back to health (you've been shot and left for dead). The answers you provide will determine your character's stats and skills. Also, you won't have to worry about radiation poisoning this time, but rather the effects of dehydration. No stimpaks, either. You'll either have to visit a doctor to heal up or carry a doctor's bag to heal.

That IGN link is fucked.

The Wiki page seems okay.

This one is better, though:

Yeah, seriously. I gave up on companions on Fallout 3, because of how damn annoying they were. Early in the game, I used Dogmeat a lot, just because it was useful having him tank for me, especially against the fire breathing ants. But after while, once I ranked up and had great weapons, having a companion was far more of a choir than anything else.

I am kind of dissapointed that this game is coming out so soon, I wish that it would have gotten a engine overhaul. The game on the outside looks really like Fallout 3 did, which isnt the worst thing, but after seeing games like Alan Wake and Crysis, I just dont know how long this engine wil hold our attention in this generation. The animations are really bogus, and the enviroments are all a similar color, which is kind of annoying. But..

Given how fun Fallout 3 was, I will still probably give my 60 bucks to Bethesda and get this day one.

There's another preview in this month's GI.

Stolen from gamefaqs. Here is the new info.

Here's a more thorough summary of the Fallout: New Vegas article in Game Informer, with lots of new information:

* There's a monorail station in the Strip.
* Mr. House is a mysterious man in control of the Strip, who lives in the Lucky 38. Nobody has been inside there as long as anyone can remember. House was inspired by Howard Hughes/ He is a laissez faire dictator, where it's "Everyone can do whatever they want as long as they follow my rules".
* J.E. Sawyer says: "Mr. House has families - tribes he brought out of the wastes. He's actually a pre-war person who specialized in robotics and research into extending human life. So he was in stasis for several hundred years, and then woke up. He has minions who control the Strip, and they help control what goes on there. (...) Mr. House is also the guy who engineered the fact that Vegas was not destroyed. The way he did that comes out through the course of the game, but because he is this sort of prodigy, he has a talent with machines and probability, he used that to his advantage to prevent New Vegas during the Great War from being destroyed."
In front of the Tops casino, a shady fellow known as Mr. Holdout offers the player concealed weapons, such as a razor or brass knuckles. The casino doorman asks the player to hand over all of his weapons before he can enter the casino, but with a high sneak skill, the player can keep one.
* The Tops is where you can experience Rat Pack-style Vegas, and listen to Frank Sinatra tunes. If you look hard enough, you might notice some familiar faces.
* The Aces nigthclub is home to the Rad Pack Revue and its manager resembles Sammy Davis Jr. He gives the player a sidequest to round up any musicians he can find in the wasteland and bring them to the club.
* The Gomorrah casino is the biggest den of sex and depravity in town.
* The Ultra-Luxe is the most luxurious casino in the Strip.
* Vault 21 is also a casino. As part of the Vault Experiment, all conflicts in it were resolved through gambling. "House decided he wanted to have it and he bet them for it, and House always wins." says Jason Bergman.
* Gambling is done through minigames, such as blackjack, roulette, slots. There is another game that they're not talking about yet. Each of the casinos has its home rules for e.g. the frequency that dealers shuffle the deck, etc. The Luck stat is the key to successful gambling.
* There are three currencies in the game - NCR dollars, Caesar's Legion money and bottlecaps.

message detail
* Novac, home to Dinky the Dinosaur, makes its money by salvaging stuff out of a nearby rocket base. A pair of former NCR snipers use Dinkey's mouth as their nest.
* One of the two snipers is Craig Boone, a potential companion, whose pregnant wife was recently kidnapped by a bunch of slavers. Nobody else was captured, so he suspects it was an inside job. Boone says he wants to avenge Carla's death, not wanting to say how he knows she's dead.
Boone's plan is to talk to the residents of Novac, find the person responsible and lure them in front of Dinky. He gives you his red beret and tells you to wear it when you're with that person, so that Boone can shoot them.
* The Dino Bite gift shop is run by Cliff, who did not go along well with Carla. If you want to be evil, you can send anyone out there to be shot by Boone. As it turns out, nobody in town really liked Carla.
* In the hotel office, you can notice a safe in the floor behind the manager, Jeannie May Crawford. There you can find a document proving that she sold Carla to slavers for 1000 caps. After this quest is finished, Boone will join you as a companion.
* Each companion has his own storyline, they evolve and they unlock special features, becoming stronger, having lots of dialogue, and giving you bonuses.
* Caesar's Legion was defeated by the New California Republic at Hoover Dam and since that battle they retreated east. However, they are now starting to bleed back into Nevada. The Legion kills whom it can't capture, often by crucifixion.
* J.E. Sawyer says: "You start out sort of thinking 'Oh, the NCR is opposing Caesar's Legion, and Caesar's Legion are slavers, they absorb tribes they find in the wasteland, turn them into slaves, counquer other groups and crucify other people, and do all this nasty stuff. Clearly NCR must be the good guys. But then you start interacting with NCR and it's like, 'well, they're kind of strung really thing, they kind of abuse their power sometimes, they're really brutal in dealing with some of the locals. They do control the water supply kind of unfairly, and they don't allow the power to be distributed outside the Strip or McCarran.' So a lot of it is the practical realities of this very large bureaucratic military that's occupied the territory. And there are things you learn about Caesar's Legion, where Caesar's Legion are brutal and they are nasty and all that stuff, but they also conquered and civilized all these tribes that were just sort of killing each other. So they turned them into a cohesive fighting force and stopped all of this murdering out in the wastes."
* The NCR forces have retreated to Camp Forlorn Hope after their former camp, Camp Nelson, was overrun by Caesar's Legion, who killed the ones who did not manage to escape.
* A chat with Private Stone reveals that morale is pretty low. The camp commander reveals that people who were supposed to deliver a crate of supplies disappeared and he asks you to find them or the goods.
* As it turns out, they were killed by a bunch of fire geckos. You can take the crate and return to the camp.
VasDeferens

* Sawyer says: "Skills can be shortcuts to completing a thing, but it would be nice if there was another way to do it. There are places in the game where if you have an 80 science, you can flip a switch and be done with no problem. IF you don't, thoigh, you can go and do it and it's going to take you a little more effort or it's going to cost you something".
* After delivering the crate, you are asked to help Doctor Richards in the medical tent. With high Medicine skill, you can diagnose and treat patients, but there are also other ways of completing this mission - you can lie about being a doctor or find a selection of supplies, such as surgical tubing and medical braces. Otherwise, a player can simply say that they don't have any experience and complete the mission.
* Then it is time to take back Camp Nelson with a bunch of soldiers. You have a choice of either attacking from the north or the eastern ridge.
* Instead of attacking Nelson, you can also go there for an audience with its new leader, called Dead Sea. He will then ask you to kill the officers at Forlorn Hope. You can either go postal or use C4 charges.
* Low intelligence dialogue options are back. However, instead of speaking gibberish, dumb characters now simply miss the point of things. "When there's a line that shows a bit of higher intelligence, your character just botches it and says something realy dumb and doesn't get it. That way we can tailor it a little ore, so we're not simply rewriting every single line of dialogue with a dumb version. When it's called for, the player says something extra dumb and the character responds to it. Sometimes it affects you negatively, sometimes it's funny. Sometimes it actually has a positive outcome."

http://bethblog.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/img/trans.gifThe Classic Pack (pictured above), available when you pre-order through GameStop (http://www.gamestop.com/gs/landing/fnv/), contains:

Armored Vault 13 Suit – Extensively patched up and dotted with piecemeal armor, this outfit is an homage to the classic ending of the original Fallout.
Vault 13 Canteen – This handy device is useful for staving off dehydration and providing a small amount of healing in the Mojave Wasteland.
Weathered 10mm Pistol – A well-worn 10mm pistol that packs an extra punch despite its modest size.
5 Stimpaks – Food and water are good for long-term healing, but when the fighting is fierce, Stimpaks help keep Wastelanders upright.

The Tribal Pack, available when you pre-order through Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=fallout%3A+new+vegas&x=0&y=0), contains:

Tribal Raiding Armor – Pieced together from scraps of armor, this outfit provides protection without impacting mobility.
Broad Machete – This heavy-bladed melee weapon does high damage against limbs and can quickly deal out a flurry of attacks.
5 Bleak Venom doses – Useful on any Melee Weapon, Bleak Venom makes short of work of most living targets.
10 Throwing Spears – If you would like to silently pin an enemy’s head to a wall, Throwing Spears are the way to do it.

http://static.bethsoft.com/blog/fnv-caravanpackblog1.jpg (http://static.bethsoft.com/blog/fnv-caravanpackblog1.jpg)
The Caravan Pack, available when you pre-order through Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/sale/bethesda_weekend) and Walmart (http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&ic=48_0&search_query=fallout%3A+new+vegas&Find.x=0&Find.y=0&Find=Find), contains:

Exactly like everyone else I'm sticking with amazon despite getting the worst pre-order bonuses. The bonuses are just weight, I'll probably drop them when I hit level 7 or so. Machete is for radroaches, armor will easily be replaceable when I kill raiders for leather, no reason for me to poison the machete, and I only use strength for the ability to carry more weight, so I can't "throw" far.

It doesn't seem like any of those pre-order bonuses will have a lot of resell value. I was thinking about justifying a launch purchase if I could resell a pre-order code for $30-40 but these seem too generic.

I will probably order this from Amazon because it will only be a matter of months before the rest of these outfits and bonuses are released for free (or points) later on. Similar to the bonuses that came with Mass Effect 2 and what Red Dead Redemption is getting later on this year.

You should get your facts straight. The only pre-order bonus that ME2 has released is the Inferno Armor, which was a generic pre-order bonus at most retailers. And it costs Microsoft points to download now.

Red Dead Redemption had three different pre-order bonuses: Golden Guns from Amazon, War Horse from Best Buy, and Deadly Assassin Outfit from Gamestop. No announcement has been made regarding the release of any of those bonuses, and you shouldn't expect it. The two losing outfits from the Gamestop voting contest, the Expert Hunter and Savvy Merchant, are both being released for free later this summer. But they weren't available to anyone as a pre-order bonus.

I'm loving the new weapons, there were not enough explosives IMO in original although mods fixed that. It looks like there are grenade launchers and possibly remote mines? Also was that a super mutant who cloaked?

Interested to see if New Vegas will be different enough to be significant and actually feel like a different game, not a Fallout 3 expansion pack.

I hate to say it, but I venture to guess that Bethesda may be running out of ideas and ways to innovate on the whole "do whatever you want" thing. They have been doing it for a while, and after a few games in a series (Elder Scrolls, Fallout), you would think their idea bank would be running a bit dry.

FIANL EDIT:

We have very limited supply of the Coaster set, 4500 total. Limit one per customer, while supplies last, no rainchecks.

This is not a pre-order and does not researve your copy of the game but rest assured we will be purchasing a large amount of Fallout New Vegas and adjust our per store allocation based on the Coaster Set sell through.

I want to order it over amazon (got giftcard for it) but how much do you pay toward the final price. Amazon doesn't mention it or i did not see it.
Or do have to pay the full prize?

Thanks for the info.

Fallout: New Vegas celebrity casting revealed (http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2010-08-10-fallout10_ST_N.htm)

Whatever happens in Vegas stays there — even after the apocalypse.

The upcoming futuristic video game Fallout: New Vegas takes place after a nuclear war with China decimates the USA. But Wayne Newton— "Mr. Las Vegas" — survives as the voice of a DJ programmed centuries earlier.

That his essence endures such desolation suggests Newton's spirit "could almost survive anything," says the entertainer, 68, a Vegas fixture for more than 40 years, whose show goes to the MGM Grand this fall.

"Even in the post-apocalypse, there's still Wayne Newton," says the game's producer, Jason Bergman of Bethesda Softworks. "I think he got a kick out of that."

In the latest title in the hit franchise (out Oct. 19, $60 for PS3 and Xbox 360, $50 for PCs, ages 17-up), players hear from "Mr. New Vegas" as they explore the irradiated Strip. (In Fallout's story line, it's 2280, more than 200 years after a nuclear holocaust.)

Newton joins a marquee cast that includes Matthew Perry (Friends), Zach Levi (Chuck), Kris Kristofferson, Michael Dorn (Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Felicia Day (The Guild). Ron Perlman (Hellboy) serves as the game's narrator, a role he has played in several Fallout games, including the 1997 original.

The quips delivered by Mr. New Vegas include suggestions to listeners to keep "living the dream." The character, Newton says, "has a perverted sense of humor."

The designers created the role for Newton "because he is Las Vegas," Bergman says. "He really brings that extra touch of Vegas class to the game. ... And whether he's reading news stories about super mutants or introducing a Dean Martin song, his personality comes through."

"I have never been in a video game before and, frankly, have never played, simply because I have been working my whole life," Newton says.

Newton says he'd read the dialogue — one-liners in some cases, two or three lines in others — and "do them just a little bit different, each one, until we hit on what it was the guys wanted ... where it is Wayne Newton, but it's not Wayne Newton, you know?"

Could be awesome.

Karma achievements were so easy...

Make a save before you get to the level where you get one of the 3 achievements (good/neutral/bad) and just do whatever it takes to get it. Here and now perk made it incredibly easy (insta level up).

I'd say it took me 15 minutes to get all of the neutral and evil karma achievements(I got the good one on my first playthrough)

To me, the whole thing about a game like this is the story, environment, etc. I'm intrigued by the Vegas-angle and the re-introduction of elements familiar to the old FO games, like the NCR. Most importantly, though the game looks very similar to Fallout 3, they supposedly did a lot of work on the gunplay, so that you can actually feel very confident in playing this as an FSP and not always having to rely on VATS.

Thekrakrabbit

Not sure, but from the footage I looked at the actual gunplay (FPS wise) looks very similar. The enemies just move around too move so that its difficult to hit anyone in FPS mode.

First off, I'm not trying to start a fanboy warfare.

I am getting this day one, but I can't decide between the 360 or ps3 version. I played fallout 3 on 360 before I had a ps3, but over the past 10 or 11 months, ps3 has become my platform of choice for some reason. I know fallout 3 suffered some frame rate problems that weren't present on the 360 version.

Is there anything indicating that one version will run better over the other? I'm not really big into achievements or trophies (though I have been trying to build my trophy score), so that isn't too big of an issue. Controller isn't much of an issue. The only definite plus I can think of off the top of my head is gamesharing for DLC on ps3.

Just curious to see if anyone has run into anything that might suggest something either way. Again, I love both systems. No hating or flaming please! Let's keep this civil CAG..

You might want to wait a day or two after release till the comparisons start showing up. It is built on the FO3 engine so unless they polished it on the PS3 based off the framerate issues FO3 had, then I would expect it to be about the same.

I don't think it really matters either way, but gamesharing DLC on the PS3 is a big thing considering how often Fallout DLC came out for FO3. I would say PS3 unless there are specific, gameplay affecting reasons the 360 would be better. Practically impossible to tell if the PS3 will be bugged like last time (although I never glitched once on the PS3) until the games comes out though.

ugh ! I hate when people get the games early !!

sadly this game is already up on this hacker site that you can download full 360 games for free.

that must really suck for the devs

You can get release day delievry on the regular edition. The collector's edition, apparently, is not eligible for Amazon Prime due to only being offered (on Amazon) through Target.

hmm I was trying to preorder the regular edition and it still didn't offer it. I guess I will have to email support. Thanks for the reply

Edit: Now it appears to be working... weird.

Not surprised at that, hackers and people who get it early spill it all over the web.

I was one of the people who go lucky and ordered the regular edition back when it was being called the Collector's Edition. Complained to Amazon about a month ago and they are giving me the CE for the reg. edition price of $56.99 :D Can't wait for Tuesday!

Ive had this preordered at Lamestop for the last month or so. I feel guilty for not buying at my local independent game store, but I wanted the preorder bonus DLC. :D

I put over 100 hundred hours into 3 (including the DLC) and I ended up with 1350/1550. You will want to pick up something else for easy cheevos.

For this type of games it would take you at least 100 hours to get all the achievements/trophies. If you want easy achievements just try an avatar game that was release a few years ago...you get 1000 in like ten minutes \\:D/

This is a game I WANT to spend 100 hours on to complete the achievements. I easily invested that much in F3, and enjoyed every single minute of it.

One of the many, many great things about Fallout 3 was it took forever to get all the of the achievements, but it never felt like a grind. I wanted to keep playing. Well, except for Mothership Zeta. That was boring as hell.

From Joystiq:

Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout: New Vegas will -- obviously -- be supported by post-release DLC. As was the case (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/fallout-3-to-feature-exclusive-dlc-on-xbox-360-games-for-window/) with Fallout 3 add-ons, the first new content for New Vegas will be "exclusive" to Xbox Live when it's released this holiday. Though no plans to feature the same content on PSN (or PC, for that matter) have been announced, what happens to be exclusive to Xbox Live doesn't always stay exclusive to Xbox Live -- odds are New Vegas DLC will (eventually (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/17/fallout-3-goty-edition-ps3-dlc-dated/)) be ported to PS3.

Not shocking, since it happened with Fo3, and as we all know, the DLC eventually hits the PS3 months later.

Exactly. I can't wait to play this. Hopefully picking up my copy tomorrow using my Kmart coaster coupon.

I don't get to do much gaming (about 3-5 hours per week) so it took me months to get through FO3. I loved it though. Never felt bored with the game. I am pumped to play New Vegas. This is the first game I have bought at launch in a long long time.

I think most people here are single with no kids. I maybe get to play about 7 hours a week. And it also took me months to get through FO3. But it doesn't mean I enjoy it any less.

I got mine through Gamestop with that B2G1 on any games they had online maybe 6 months ago. It came down to getting it for $40. Now I'm wishing I'd gotten the $50 and guaranteed release date delivery from Amazon. We'll see, supposedly my copy shipped today. Hopefully no later than Wednesday.

I'm going to stroll into GS tomorrow and use a couple of giftcards on it, so it's only going to be $10 out of pocket for me. :D

I expect this game will be much better and have way more replay value than FO3, and that's saying alot!

I believe there is a review embargo until the day of release. And I've heard rumor IGN might have a review at 10PM.. maybe. :/

I'm a little nervous about there being an embargo, but this game would have to be a glitch filled mess to make me not get it. If it's 100+ hours but doesn't do anything radically different from FO3, I won't really care.

I agree. I feel any company that has a review embargo might be expecting not so great reviews... hopefully this is not the case since I took tomorrow off to play it :D

It does seem strange for them to embargo it, doesn't it? I mean, what reason could they possibly have other than to not *discourage* people from buying it? It's already hyped, and will sell well. The only thing they could fear are bad reviews hurting sales. Right?

First line:

"Fallout: New Vegas somehow manages to have even more technical problems than Fallout 3 did..."

I'm not too high on bigger review sites like that, but I don't really doubt that statement. Fallout 3 was plauged with technical glitches...

Upon reading Giant Bomb's review, I can confirm that the site hurts my eyes. I just...couldn't finish reading it.

Anyway, it sounds like some of the glitches sound funny to watch. People walking through the ground and floating in mid-air. Fallout has always had humor, maybe this is all purposely part of the game! In any case, my suspicions sound confirmed that the gameplay if just Fallout 3, in a new setting.....

I'm happy with the reviews. More Fallout 3 is good, and it seems that is what New Vegas is. I put so 125+ hours into FO3. Hopefully I don't experience too many technical issues.

It seems like the reviews I'm seeing were done on the 360 and that is where technical issues are coming from. We'll see later on if PC and PS3 have them, but I read that clearing you 360's cache can fix a lot of the technical issues. Worth a try if you are experiencing crashing or other problems when playing.

I don't get it. Is this a dig at GB in general or at the literal color scheme/look of the site?

Anyways, excerpt from Joystiq:

No, I can only point to one real, genuine, unequivocal misstep Obsidian has made here (OK, two if you count the soundtrack): It's a technical embarrassment. Three times the game locked up on me completely, forcing me to restart the 360. Entering the outside world is more often than not accompanied by 20 seconds or so of the framerate slowing to an absolute slide show. Load times regularly hover between 25 and 50 seconds, in spite of a full hard drive installation. That's not so bad when you happen upon the occasional building in the Mojave Wasteland, but quest lines that take you in and out of several buildings in a row are utterly demoralizing.

Obsidian hasn't even fixed the kludginess inherent to Fallout 3. The camera still gets stuck in the wrong location for dialog sequences and A.I. pathing is still comically unnatural. If I were looking at Fallout: New Vegas as a product, I'd say it's shocking that it's being released to the public in this state. Unfortunate to see a lot of these reviews talking about so many technical issues. Impressions on NeoGAF seem to be more positive in that regard, though.

Just hope this does well. I'm a big Chris Avellone fan.

I got my game at GS at midnight and supposedly GS was giving out a classic pack that came with exclusive outfit, canteen, gun and 5 stimpacks... It wasn't on the receipt or a card though but inside the game itself was a card. Are all games coming with this code? I wasn't excited about the extras and already put my card on Ebay. Just wondering if it really was an exclusive...

Cephiros
10-19-2010, 05:01 AM
I was curious so I checked out Ebay for the various pre-order bonus packs and some of them are going to $20, one for the PS3 is going for $42. I mean I love Fallout but I'm not willing to pay that much for this dlc.

@$hady - Was the card in your game from a sealed copy? If not then GS probably just put it in the case.

I got my game from Yourfree360games.com so no pre-order bonus for me.
