Twinkies Maker Files Bankruptcy (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040922/ap_on_bi_ge/interstate_bakeries_bankruptcy_7)

I thought they went out of business in 1984 and that the Twinkies you see on the shelves were from the remaining stock shelved in some secret govt. warehouse.

I'm sure Rerun is alone somewhere in the fetal position.

There is going to be a twinkee rush where people buy and hoard as many twinkees as humanly possible.

This is definitely reminding me of all those horrible twinkie jokes.

I wouldn't recommend it with the Wonderbread, but the Twinkies, of course, will last forever.

Just because they are filing Chapter 11 does not mean they are stopping production. They are reorganizing. I do have to plead ignorance, though, as I have no idea how a company with $3.5 Billion in annual sales can let this sort of thing happen.

I don't think anyone named "King Dong" can ever be truly unhappy.

Retail margins are murder. That's why EB can have billions in sales but earn less than a couple hundred million in profits on a good year.

Rerun died last year. It is for lack of him that Twinkies has fallen into destitution.

I don't know, shouldn't the margin of markup on a twinkie be more than the markup on a game(Percentage wise)? And shouldn't they move great quantities more of them? Of course, my question is answered with the recent LOW-CARB bullshit.

I remember a few years ago when I got to don the Twinkie the Kid costume at a customer appreciation day. Good times, free twinkies. :D

Yeah. If anyone has a legitimate gripe it's "Ho-Ho".

First of all, they are a wholesaler, so retail margins don't really enter into it. I quoted the $3.5 Billion figure because I did not see their profits in the article, but one would assume that a company like that should be turning a profit. This low-carb thing has hurt a lot of businesses, but I would have expected IBC to be faster to react.

I love these names....Ho-Ho, Twinkie, Ding Dong, King Dong. They are sooo cute and charming yet strangely perverse and dirty.

I saw something on a talk show about some restaurant in NYC had a new speciallty, deep fried twinkees. I love it when they deep fry really fattening stuff to make it better. It's the American way.
