Square Enix have decided to try something a little different to everything else that they've been working on -- A twin stick shooter where you battle invading monsters.

0 Day Attack on Earth will take you to Tokyo, New York, Paris and many other locals as you destroy giant aliens threatening to destroying your home.

The game appears to use images taken directly from those cities, similar to what the PlayStation Network game The Last Guy did, and throws giant aliens in the mix. The game also allows up to 4 players to play online in cooperative modes.

It's certainly something different from Square, having all previous downloadable games being quite cheery in comparison. Still it's something we've yet to see on XBLA - a story based cooperative shooter, hopefully people will won't dismiss it entirely because of its shooter aethetic, like they did Shred Nebula last year.

Click here for screenshots of the game, or watch the official trailer above. The game is set for a release in 2009.

Damn, 15 bucks for a twin stick shooter? They lost me as well, though the game does look very good.

Yeah, me too. I was hoping it was going to come out at 800 points. Pretty sure I would have bought it at that price, but at 1200 I'll pass on it for now.

I'll skip also. Too many games are being released @ 1200 points now too often and I can remember alot of games that are way better for 800 points. I want more arcade classics for 400 points.

Good looks good, but I have yet to really like a twin stick shooter, not even the much-love Geometry Wars. I can't quite get the hang of the control scheme. I always tend to walk and shoot in the same direction. It's a patting your head and rubbing your belly skill. I actually played better and enjoyed more the Atari Lynx version of Robotron, perhaps because it had a modified non-twin-stick control scheme and I could use that much better.

That game looks awesome.
But I'm too poor!

When they use "real maps", to me its like saying they felt lazy and so they wouldnt have to render levels.

A 3-D Shoot-em-up for $15? Meh, no thanks.

Looks cool for maybe 800 points, but not 1200. I'll play the demo and wait around for a sale if I think it's even worth the 800.
