I tried a blog about this, they suggested I try here.

I need more space on my DVR but don't have the money to buy an external SATA drive. I do however have some old IDE drives laying around (yeah my computer is that old.) I know the DVR can take an external hard drive via eSATA (possibly firewire, I think I saw that connector back there.) so is there a way to put the IDE into an enclosure but have it connect to the DVR via eSATA (or firewire)?

I found some enclosures online that support IDE/SATA drives but they said that the eSATA connector only works with the SATA drive and the IDE drives would have to use USB. I think the DVR (A Scientific Atlantic) has USB ports on the front, but I don't remember reading anything about them being usable for this cause. Any help is appreciated. :)

It tends to be a pain to convert from IDE to SATA. It can be done, but requires adapters and they don't always work very well. I wouldn't expect to be able to find an enclosure that can do what you want very easily. Also, something else to consider is that you don't really want to buy the cheapest enclosure you can find. The cheapest I'd go would be probably about $50 for an enclosure, making sure it has good ratings, some sort of decent cooling system, and is of good quality. A lot of those cheap enclosures you'll find tend to have pretty crappy build quality and little to no cooling, which isn't good for a hard drive. Honestly, I'd suggest just saving up some cash and buying a SATA drive. It'll be less hassle in the end.
