Features

Everyone's favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™ game is back with a brand new look in Turtles in Time Re-Shelled for Xbox LIVE® Arcade. The arcade classic has been revamped with all new 3-D graphics, but with the same classic beat-'em-up gameplay. Take on the Foot and bosses alone or in a team of four. Cowabunga, dudes!

New graphics, classic gameplay: The game has upgraded 3-D graphics, but still features the same side-scrolling beat-'em-up gameplay we all love.
Multiplayer: Play the four-player co-op and survival modes available online and locally.
Cowabunga, dudes!: It's the Turtles back in one of their all-time classic arcade games, now playable on Xbox 360®.

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/6018/tmnttinxbla.jpg http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/4528/tmnttinxbla2.jpg

The game is set up and directly taken from TMNT Turtles in Time.
Right now it's only going to be for Xbox Live, but they're working on bringing it to Wii (Virtual Console?).
It has the same music as the old game.
Only the levels "Alleycat Blues" and "Skull and Crossbones" were playable.
The only difference noticed was the bosses for the "Skull and Crossbones" is Tokka and Rahzar (unlike the original, which had Bebop and Rocksteady).
For Alleycat Blues the boss is still Metalhead.
The game is basically Turtles in Time with new graphics - Awesome!

Why does no one want the Avengers arcade game? The console game sucked but the arcade game rocked!! And the spiderman game was the last of the beat em ups, and because of that the graphics were very well done, and the battle system was very refined.

It seems like the Arcade build right now, the bosses in the level "Skull and Crossbones" are Tokka and Rahzar, not Bebop and Rocksteady (who were in the home version only). This may mean no Rat King level and no Technodrome level as well.

I hope they put in original sprites and a remix option...

Man, I'd be bummed if the technodrome level doesn't make it into this.

And as much as I'd love to see the original sprites, the video makes it look like the gameplay has changed enough that it probably wouldn't work unless they included the arcade original along with the updated version.

Are there a lot of differences between this one and the TMNT Arcade Game on XBLA right now?Yeah, it's a remake of the SEQUEL to that game. I mean the gameplay didn't fundementally change between games, but you got a bunch of new levels, some new attacks, and the improvements in graphics/sound/etc that you'd expect between games that came out a couple years apart. If you were a 10-year-old kid in 1992 it was the bees knees!!!! I'll never forget the first time I saw this one... it was actually in a Friendly's for some reason.

I think I was reading that the reason those great games havent gotten rereleased is because of licensing issues and if you look at them they are some pretty big ones. So instead of classics like the xmen arcade game, you get that EA garbage. And since we are talking about classics such as these, anyone else but me want remakes/releases of Aliens or AVP?

Gden
05-05-2009, 01:31 PM
I take it you mean the games made that are similar to these arcade games? Or closer to Final Fight? Although I probably wouldn't play them, I think it would be cool to see those on the XBLA, and I'm sure that one company owns the rights to the games I mentioned like Fox having the Simpsons, and Marvel having the spiderman game, and captain america game, I bet somebody could work something out if they wanted to.

And since we are talking about classics such as these, anyone else but me want remakes/releases of Aliens or AVP?Helllll yeah, I loved the ALIENS game... it often gets overlooked in favor of AvP, but both were great games and they actually played quite different from each other. I think Aliens was actually put out by Konami, while AvP was by Capcom. But yeah, I actually played Aliens at the same comic/video store where I discovered Street Fighter II and the first TMNT... so my memories of it are quite fond!

I too shall eternally hope for Simpsons and Xmen ports. The licensing situation looks grim, but with these Konami TMNT games actually coming out, anything can happen. Although I think a lot of us were hoping to see something done with the Simpsons game when the movie came out... oh well :-(

Eternal hope is always crushed by greed to put out new $60 games based on those licenses than old great games that would draw less money and take valuable attention from new stuff. Majoring in business allows me to see how horrible things can happen to good ideas.

Eternal hope is always crushed by greed to put out new $60 games based on those licenses than old great games that would draw less money and take valuable attention from new stuff. They can do both though! That's what happened with the previous TMNT on XBLA... the release timing of it and the UI/menu graphics were clearly cashing in on the new TMNT movie, and the accompanying $60 retail game based on the movie. Then there's also BC:Rearmed which was partially a promotion for a new $60 retail Bionic Commando game.

In both cases I think we got a neat XBLA title BECAUSE there was a $60 game to promote.

Sadly no. They showed Smash Up as well, and mentioned it played like brawl. The TMNT:Turtles In Time was basically those 2 stages that have already been seen. They didn't mention anything worth watching it for. My guess is the game will be 1200 points. Sadly I would pay even 1600 points for this since I <3 TMNT.

ahaa ok thanks for the update!

One thing I've been wondering is whether they'll use the gameplay tweaks that were introduced in the SNES version. SNES had a more fighter-style throw command, whereas I believe the throws occurred randomly in the arcade version. Also you could choose your dashing style in the SNES version, so you could double-tap to run (in the arcade you had to just walk in a direction until the automatic running kicked in).

If the game is 1200 points, you know what I'll do? Go play some Castle Crashers. It's got to be 800 points because a remake isn't going to be worth 1200.

Remember how one of those previous-gen TMNT games (Mutant Nightmare or something like that) had Turtles In Time as an unlockable? I always avoided it because I heard they changed the music, but does anyone know WHAT music was changed? Like was it just the intro, or most of the actual in-game music? Because if the majority of the game sounds like the original, I may just go that route the next time I grab some old games at a GameStop b2g1.

looking at the vids, seems like they changed the gameplay a bit. looks like you can hit enemies above and below you, not just right in front of you like before.

This is one of few times, where I can't complain about such a change. The old games of this type always had a bit of a "hit radius", that allowed you to hit enemies not exactly on your plane. This is just a better graphical representation of that.

I love how Guardian Heroes gave you set planes to jump to. This eliminated the need for angled attacks, and allowed one to do special move commands, Fighting game style, really easily.

If there is one place I can say Castle Crashers dropped the ball, if was with this situation. The VS mode was much crappier than it should have been, because lining up hits felt horrible with non-cpu opponents. I would have prefered either a Guardian Heroes, or Turtles Reshelled method, rather than what we got.

I think the chaos in this port will make the angled hits fit well into the game. Seeing a character hit straight forward, but hit 3 enemies, in 3D space, on different planes, would look sloppy. The solution they used is much better, and shouldn't adversely affect this game.

Gameplay of Big Apple (Go to Youtube to watch in HD):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaShFJv5-OE&fmt=22

I'm impressed with the quality of lighting and animation in this game, personally. Regardless of the price, I have to say I don't get the feeling that this game was "phoned in" like many ports. I love the fact that the actions have the same snap and timing I expect when watching a 2D game, but in 3D. And the Turtles redesigns, while different, remind me much more of what I've seen of the comics over the years, with their sleek, slightly edgier look.

Lastly, even if the music is new, IT SOUNDS LIKE 90'S KONAMI MUSIC! WoOT! Konami always had those BIG BEATS in their music, that always said "YES, THIS IS AN 8/16 BIT ERA KONAMI GAME!". That's replicated suprisingly well here.

so should console games be 50 bucks forever? even in 100 years when 50 bucks is equivalent to buying a candy bar?

games have been 50 bucks forever, even back to the genesis days. possibly even the nes days but i can't remember. they even had games over 50 bucks back in the genesis days (strider was 90 bucks, virtua racing was 130 bucks).

so higher prices are inevitable, as production costs go up. they need to make money, last i checked these companies are running a business.

this thread proves how C CAG really is.It's going beyond cheapness now though! The new graphics are subjectively altering the game's innate nostalgia factor, and the lack of drop-in/drop-out gameplay fundamentally alters the nature of the game. I can honestly say that those are the real reasons I'm shying away from this. I would have paid 1200 for the original (really!!).

Yeeeeah man... this is the kinda game I would love to leave running in the background at a party, where people could just jump into it and play for a while, die, then go do something else while the main game continues. The lack of LOCAL drop in/out kills that. Oh well at least I've got Rampage on Midway Arcade Treasures.

I think the reason the original version is not included is the same reason they think it's worth $15. It's not just a graphical improvement to the original, it's been completely re-written using a different engine.

It's not just a graphical filter being applied, still isn't worth $15 though IMO.

neoKEN
07-17-2009, 08:38 AM
Saw some videos of this game on gametrailers and I think it is huge graphical improvement over the original. I enjoy the clay look of it. $15 is too pricey for me, I think the game is a bit too simple even for a beat'em up. I'd get it when they offer the 50% off deal.

I wish Sega does something like that. A Streets of Rage 3 with 3D graphics update would be worth it since the fighting is a bit more complex and variety of enemies.

This is the second game in a month to drop from $15 to $10 right before release (the other being Madballs in Babo: Invasion). Perhaps these companies are comparing the sales figures of $15 games vs $10 games and realizing that they will probably make more money at a lower price.

Sweet. Makes paying over $10 for trials HD seem kind of silly now, but I know I will do it anyways. Unless I am wrong about the pricing for that game...

My interest in this game went up even more with the lower price. Will certainly buy it depending on how well the demo goes.

Maybe Ubisoft can afford the price drop with all that lucrative Imagine and Petz money they have coming in.

I'm the the same boat as others. I really was interested, but was scared off by the 1200. For 800 I'm in for sure.

Count me in too if it's going to be 800 points! Heck, I might as well do the Summer of Arcade thing and buy 'Splosion Man, TMNT, Trials HD, and Shadow Complex and get points back. I already have MvC2.

I'm in. I have been since the start but now with the drop I might get 'splosion man and trials (common price drop).

First I was only going to get Turtles, MvC2 & Shadow Complex but now that I have a few extra points makes it worth it

I was going to buy it anyway but I'm real glad they decided to do this. If they drop trials, I'll probably buy all of them.

I've been interested in Turtles in Time since it seems to have this following, but at $15 it was questionable, but definitely getting it now. I probably would take the leap and buy all the Summer of Arcade games, but Trials HD still doesn't seem worth it in the least.

I've heard this is only the arcade version. Meaning a lot of levels are going to be left out.

No technodrome.

call me cynical, but am i the only one here who feels that this was a marketing ploy?
if it had started at $10, CAG would say "$10 is too much. i'll wait till its less."
but since it was to 'start' at $15, all the CAG are saying "I'll buy it for $10 but not $15!"

this way, ubi gets to charge what they want ($10) and you feel that you get it cheaper (thought it would be $15).

I disagree fully.. I think I can speak for a lot of us when I say that retro games are worth about 400 for simple re-release, remakes are worth about 800 for the work put in, and original games are now accepted to be worth 1200.

I'm in and this all but ensures I will buy all 5 games. I'm sure they tested the numbers and discovered they would make more profit 800 as more casual players will now buy in. And the more players who buy in the better the online experience will be, and thus more long term sales.

I assume that this has no bearing on negating Microsoft's '800 pts. back if you buy 'em all' offer?

If so, I gotta go for it.

thank you Ubi Soft for making this 800pts. I just got a 1600 points card today, and currently only have 400 pts beforehand. This works out perfect for me to get Shadow Complex and TMNT with the remaining points that I have. (Shadow Complex is 1200pts right? not 1600pts?)

Boy, reading that preview, the game sounds SHORT. It sounds like this may not even be such a good deal even at 800 points. If Ubi had tried to pass off such a short game at 1200 points, it probably wouldn't have sold well even with such high name recognition.

And in answer to the question above, yes, Shadow Complex is 1200 points and a really great deal, it seems.
