View Full Version : Do you use the prefer/avoid player features???

I ask because I'm constantly using it...and it's amazing when my friends don't do it.

You're playing left 4 dead or whatever and run into some crappy player who doesn't listen or wants to kill you...and you don't try to avoid him???? You're just asking for trouble later down the road!

And then there are some folks that you just need to keep seeing competitive wise but you don't want to add them as a friend....prefer usually does the trick.

I support both features through and through

I used it pretty constantly when I've played Halo, but otherwise not so much recently. Surprisingly, when I play CoD4 or even L4D, I rarely run into someone who I feel warrants the avoid. Usually they're just bad at the game, which I can't fault them for.

I used that shit all the time back in the day with Gears 1.

Shit doesn't work. I'd run into the same people the very next match.

I only bother using it when I'm playing an online fighting game, or if I happen to be teamed up with someone really cool.

Otherwise, I'd rather not have to wait 15 minutes for the guide to open up between matches so that I can simply give someone feedback they don't care about.

I used to but it doesn't work so I stopped.

2K Sports games, well at least NBA 2K gives you the option to easily leave player feedback. I always use that when they try to pause on free throw attempts or just tries to score with a single guy all game or is just retarded in general.

I use it all the time to avoid players with bad connections (sorry, I don't feel like taking losses due to their connection being unable to handle it or so much lag it makes playing unbearable). I always give quit early for that and for when teams or trash talkers quit early. Other than that I use unsporting for teamkillers/glitchers (as well as file complaints on glitchers) or disruptive voice for people who have constant headset issues and won't unplug it or are just simply annoying when they speak. I do prefer people that play well and aren't obnoxious, but that doesn't happen too often anymore sadly.

Yeah it doesn't work. I've "avoided" players and still got matched with them.

I only use it during extreme cases. If i really don't like somene I'll use it, or if I actually enjoyed playing with someone. Other than that, never.

It's not supposed to ban you from them (I wish it would), it lowers the chance of you ever playing with them.

I give bad rep all of the time, only in Halo 3 though really. I still get paired up with the cocksmokers that I bad rep though so it doesn't work.

I only do If someone really pisses me off. You know where it shows the percentage for trash talking ect ect. Well I have so much percent in one when I don't even use a mic...

I started really using it in Street Fighter IV, when people rage quit or are annoying shotos...

IT doesn't really work, but when I get rocked in Halo 3, I avoid the players who owned me.

Like Sparta Omni said it does not ban them from playing with/against you. All it does is lower the chances of you playing with/against each other. If you run into them again it is because they are the only one or best one that met your criteria for match making.

As for me, I use it in SFIV when I face Ken, Ryu or Sagat unless I think the player is really good with them. About 8 out of 10 times I would see one of them 3 the player got on the avoid list. Also the ones that got all pissed off and bitched during the match got put on the avoid. The players that played somone different and were good or just made the match fun to play went on the prefer list. For the connections unless I played someone more then once that has a bad connection I don't do anything. I figure the first time it could just be a bad connection that would otherwise be a good one. If I play them again and it is still bad then chances are I use the avoid player. I really don't like using it when their connection is bad because it could be that they are just having an issue that day or just at that time.

In other games the ones that do nothing but bitch and talk trash get put on the avoid list unless I find their trash talking funny. Then I put them on the prefer player list.

I have to say that the avoid list has worked for me. I just with the prefered player would work more often.

This happened with me as well.

I still use the feature. I avoid those based on how a person plays a game. If you glitch/team kill/profane kids/etc, they will most likely be avoided. I prefer players that play a game like it should (i.e. working as a team).

I use it for TKers in Halo 3, Call of Duty, Team Fortress, etc. I don't really use it for people that quit early unless it's a small team of like 4 people or less or if it's a 1v1 fighter like Naruto or something.

I haven't met many douchebags yet in online games, so I barely use it. But I'm glad it's there.

I use the avoid player option a lot when I'm with Halo 3's wonderful community :P

Wait, if I use the "prefer" option on high ranked players, would that mean there would be a higher chance I'd be on their team?

No, it would mean you have a higher chance of being in their game.

All the time on quitters.

I only do positive for people who are really awesome players and my friends. It's the only way to get rep up. And I avoid crappy/ahole players to take their rep down.

I use the complaint feature when someone is outright cheating though.

I use it all the time in Halo. Quitters, assholes, and people that are clearly boosting and/or started a new gamertag.

Shit doesn't work. I'd run into the same people the very next match.

I've had that happen, but I think it takes a few minutes to actually hit their database. i.e. you are already paired up for the next round while that is happening. Also, like others said, it doesn't completely ban them from you just decreases the chances of you playing them again.

A lot of people are just idiots with the rep system though too.

For instance, I have never glitched (unless there was another person doing it, in which case I would do it to kill that person). But yet somehow my rep is 54% avoided with more than 50% of it being due to unsporting conduct. I could easily understand the overly aggressive one since I mainly stick to CoD and have no problem getting 30+ kills per match. Yet somehow that is seemed as unsporting??

Also, the percents don't even add up. I have about 3% for everything else except unsporting which sits at 0%.

I've used it a couple times for people on CoD4. I don't think it really works all that well even for games that have large communities.

Every chance I get because assholes and morons are a dime a dozen on Live. I don't prefer much though as 9 times out of 10 I end up befriending those whom I enjoy playing with.

I actually use it a lot. Mostly for people with modded 'trollers, or that are just annoying, or that are jerk-offs, or on the opposite end, people I like.

I use it and also report them to MS if they are cheating or being poor sports. The only problem with the feature is anyone can use it against you for no reason. I have ton of negative feedback for bad sportsmanship or something to that effect...but my mic is turned off. I only have it set to "Friends Only" and when my friends aren't on, it's not even plugged in. So there's a flip side to it.

I use it mostly for avoids. But if you manage to get on my avoid list you really had to work at being an ass.

I know what you mean about the bad feedback. At one point I noticed I had a really terrible quit early rating which is odd since I never quit early. I also rarely use my mic.

I use it when I run into a particular bad/annoying or good person on XBL, though I don't know how much it helps or hurts since I don't think I play any games consistently enough to tell if it's doing anything at all.

I mostly hit prefer on my friends and avoid anyone who bothers me enough to care. Another way of saying not too often. Apparently 80% of the people I've met on Live have avoided me for poor sportsmanship but I'm still sitting on a five-star rep. Hmmm.

Heck yes I use it. I avoid all COD4 morons with modded controllers (as well as report them for cheating) and I hit avoid for all rage quitters on Street Fighter IV. I don't want to play with them again, so I terminate our relationship here and now.

I played a guy who used Dwight Howard every single time he got the ball. Dunk. Dribble. Dunk. Post up. Dunk.

I decided to foul him via the "Hack a Shaq" method. Ironically after the 3-4th time I fouled him intentionally I was given an unsportsmanlike message and he was given the option to "auto-win". Of course he accepted.
