Buddy of mine made it to lvl 9, apparently you get 1000's of coins if you beat it, but damn is it ever hard

I was playing, only half paying attention while I watched the Indians, and made it to level 8 just now. Once I realized that I had got past the previous sticking point I went to my computer to enlist the Voltorb Flip Helper site and promptly hit a voltorb on the third tile selection.

In case anyone is wondering how far it drops you seems to be dependent on what percentage of the available points you got before hitting the voltorb.

Dendaman

Has anyone gotten to level 8 of the voltorb flip game? I failed level 7 nine or ten times before it decided to drop me all the way to level 2 instead of level 6.

I've gotten to 9 once (don't remember if I got past it, probably not), 8 a couple of times. To be honest after about level 5 it's eventually a coinflip at best as to whether you proceed to the next level or not...freakin' ridiculous.

As for dropping you down so many levels, that is decided through how many safe cards you had flipped up prior to flipping over a voltorb. So in your case, you had two safe cards flipped over, and the next one you flipped was a voltorb.

Oh and I just want to say...I hate this fucking game, but I can't stop playing it. Damn those 10K TMs! :bomb:

That sucks Puffa, hope you find it.

May be old news but I found if you have the Watt where a Route should be open on the PokeWlaker and its not showing up.
Just take your pokemon out and put him back in until all your routes open up.

Was wondering why I had 15,000 watts and Treehouse and Volcano Path werent opened, and tried this and they are all opened.

Now going into Winner's Path for Bouncing Magikarp, Leftover Munchlax, Trick Room Bronzor, and Iron Head Beldum, maybe I can get an Adamant one.

If anyone needs some Pokemon Breed with cool moves and MOdest or Jolly Nature let me know and Ill try to help.
Im a very good breeder.

I'm 11 pokemon short of having all 151 in my PC. The others I've not made as much progress on. I have traded most of the Sinnoh legendaries over.

I completed the pokedex in the original Silver. But now, there are so damn many, I don't even try. Although I have over 350 in my copy of Pearl. ;)

Anyone have any luck seeing Beldum's yet (or Bronzor for that matter, as I haven't seen any of those)? I have tried to reset the course ~6 times now and still no luck getting it to switch. I did manage to catch a few Munchlax, but the best nature was neutral. I'll have to see if I can pass on Selfdestruct via breeding.

I had thought it could be due to not having that National dex, but I caught two Duskull, so that is not it.

I found Bronzor via Sinnoh Sound last night along with all the other ones.

I found a bunch of Beldums, as well as a Choice Specs and a Choice Band, so the pokewalker course is going well. Of course none of the Beldums are adamant, so I will have to see if those too can pass on the moves it has on it, which I doubt.

05-07-2010, 09:29 PM
Ok, I've gone through Winner's Path four times and caught three Magicarp, two Horsea, four Duskull, two Beldon and one Munchlax. The Munchlax are very rare, the rarest pokemon so far I've looked for in the pokewalker. I've mostly found berries, but did get a White Herb. I'm only 3,000 watts short of opening up Sinnoh Field, so I should be able to get more items here before the end of next week.

Is a Self-Destructing Munchlax really that big a deal? I always thought flying/surfing Pikachu was way cooler. Slpoding Muchlax is kinda a funny novelty I suppose. I respect you guys' persistence though. I've been on some very enjoyable (real world) walks since I started using the Pokewalker.

The winner's path is for competitive battling. A self destruct snorlax is a surefire knockout on most pokemon. It was only availablke from pokemon XD before I think so this was nice.

A Self-Destruct from a Snorlax was one of the most powerful physical attacks back in the old Pokemon Stadium 1/2 days because it received STAB. I bet it's still right up there.

Hello fellow Pokemon Trainers, I am getting both versions of the game in a couple of days in the mail. I am keeping one and giving one to my brother. Does it really matter which one I keep? I know some of you have been playing for a while so are there any tips on how to approach the game. I have played every "Generation" of Pokemon games so far so I know quite a bit about them. Should I just start using the Pokewalker or are there any special things I should know before I start using it. Thanks in advance.

D4rkewolfe
05-11-2010, 09:24 PM
As always depends which game has the pokemon you like. Since your brother will have the other it doesn't really matter as you two can trade those.

Nothing much you need to know if you've played all of them, and I do suggest using the pokewalker right away. I enjoy it and it is an easy way to get a few items and pokemon.

Has there ever been, on any Nintendo system, a Pokemon card game? I mean one that is like the trading card game. You know, the one that no one anywhere actually plays - they only have simulations of children that play the game. Or at least that seems to be the case. :)

That would explain why it's not spreading. It's a face on the right side. Guess I'll grab it out and work it up from level 1.

Anyone have an extra fire starter? That's the only Johto starter that I've not encountered since I took Totodile.

Edit: How do you get Daisy to give your pokemon a massage? I'm there and it's been 3-4 and she's talking about tea. She said that my eevee looked content.

As others have stated, yes there was one released here in America called simply "Pokemon Trading Card Game" for the Game Boy Color. There was sequel a few years later for the Game Boy Color that included newer cards, but it was only released in Japan.

And there are tons of people that play the card game still. It's still as big if not bigger than the video game counterpart.

I just started HeartGold - it's my very first Pokemon game. I know nothing about the series other than it's a role playing game and I have to "catch 'em all" or something. So I just managed to do two things:

#1 - Beat Elite 4 for the second time around. Although I had to use 2 Legendaries, I'm glad I got through it. They really seemed to step up the difficulty in this version from the original. While appreciated in some areas, given the overall density between cities, it's not always a good thing.

#2 - I managed to get Claire's phone #. That fight is terribly designed. It just becomes a 2-on-1 situation so easily, yet if you win they say 'great teamwork' when yet in fact it was me carrying my rival's sorry ass across the finish line.

I've been re-fighting Gym leaders for the past hour or so, and I'm down to 4 of the 13 I originally had available to me (I haven't fought Blue, Pryce, Blue or Sabrina). I haven't fought Claire yet either in case anyone cared. I'm just under 40 hours in the game right now, and despite it being harder, I've pretty much tore through this game really fast while still managing a fairly high and balanced team of Pokemon. If I can get 3 of the 4 non-legendaries up to level 70 I should be able to beat Red.

That battle is a joke for your Rival. Crobat and Gengar only have speed which is irrelevant since they're under leveled compared to Lance and Clair's pokemon.

Walmart has HG for the price. Amazon always matches it. That's why it goes up and down a lot.

The secret genius of the Pokewalker is that you can still accomplish stuff without having to open your DS. :D

Too bad your pokemon won't learn moves while it levels, and I assume it won't give you the opportunity to evolve if you obtain the level at which said pokemon is to evolve via the pokewalker. I would also imagine that the stats you receive while pokewalking are extremely baseline and lower than if you were to obtain the levels via battling other pokemon.

For obtaining items, new pokemon, and I guess making your pokemon happy it's good. Although I have no real idea how to gauge happiness or to gauge the effectiveness at which doing certain things effect happiness so i don't know. What I do know is that my togepi won't evolve!

Filbert
05-25-2010, 03:28 PM
You can always get your pokemon to learn missed moves later, level them up once outside the 'walker too evolve them, and since the experience points earned in the walker are without EVs it's a great way to train them before or after EV training.

There really isn't much need in the single-player portion of the game for grinding or catching them all. Just keep going and whenever you come across a wild pokemon that has a typing lacking in your team catch one. Once you get a feel for which pokemon you like in your team and raise them some it'll stick with you more.

The Pokewalker is dissapointing a bit. Since, it can only raise the level of your Pokemon by 1. I was thinking steps would matter and would give your pokemon experience points based on the number of steps you walked. Would've been a great idea if it was implemented (at least in my opinion).

I have so many games I need to play as of late, I think I should start with this one first. Might head to my room and just play this for an hour or so having my fan blasting on me.

the main quest is to beat the gym leaders and then beat the elite 4. Capturing new pokemon can help you do that.

If you were to put a pokemon in your pokewalker and take it out a few weeks later, assuming you walked a substantial amount each day, you could have a maxed out pokemon, level wise. While that would be cool, it'd also make the 2nd half of the game even easier.

Shockingly I did not find the same giddiness in HG that I did back in the days of Gold and Crystal, and I think I know why. In the decade old originals the Johto journey was treated as the main game and Kanto as just an extra bit, now it is almost entirely reversed. The result being that Johto is insanely easy while Kanto has had its difficulty level upped to a ridiculous level. If I had wanted a challenge in Kanto I would have been playing a Poke'mon game with Kanto as the main region. G/S/C is seriously my favorite generation of Poke'mon and it shouldn't have been dulled down like that for the first part no matter what the reason.

By the by, what is the difficulty in the Orange Islands like for HG & SS? I haven't reached it as of yet.

It does say 5 sold but the prices are not 200.00

Three were sold for 9.99 and 2 for 19.99.

Why people would spend so much for that, well people are simply idiots :) it's not like these things were rare, and though icedrake keep talking about people raiding Target or whatever, I mean there are still stores out there that still have these as some people have noticed. Hell if you really want it that badly go to Walmart, not only do you get the figurine you get the game and a pokewalker cover.

Not, the 199.99 no one has bought it at that price. Perhaps the guy didn't notice adding the extra 9. He probably was trying to sell it at 20 dollars again. Seriously go to any Walmart and you can get it and everything else for 40 bucks.

These are not rare as they are out there still.

Anyways, I need to get back to playing, but definitely a little poke'od out!

Which route did you use? I've been so preoccupied with the DLC routes. Never thought to use it.

I've been meaning to ask, does the Mom continue to buy those items in perpetuity? I really don't need that many Yache and Babiri Berries.

I used Beautiful Beach. At 2000 steps, it has a 20% chance of showing up. At 5000+, it goes down to 9%, but they were still appearing like candy for me. I got ~25 of them in about an hour, with most of that time shaking the pokewalker while I watched TV to gain watts.

Your mom will continue to buy the stuff. I have tons of in game money so I do not really care about her spending some of it, though I agree all of those berries can be annoying. I think I have 30+ of each of them.

Yeah, that trading Pokemon to get them to be evolved is annoying. But, thank god they put in Wi-fi for this game... I don't think I'd be able to evolve any Pokemon that need to be traded if it weren't for that.

Pokewalker works best for getting stones, but it depends on what courses you've unlocked.

You can get a moonstone once a week up at Mt. Moon at night time (can't remember which day)

Other stones you can trade points for at the pokeathlon.

If you have a non DSi you should be able to reach Pal Park in Fuschia post Elite 4. Pal Park allows you to import Pokemon from the GBA games. All you gotta do is buy the stones in Celadon City in LG, give em to some pokes, and import them for some extra evolution stones.

The Gen IV stones can be obtained for fairly reasonable point prices in the Pokeathalon.

http://kotaku.com/5598658/nows-your-chance-to-grab-pokemons-enigma-stone

Starting July 31, North America players of Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver have 28 days to download the Enigma Stone, the key to unlocking Legendary Pokemon Latias and Latios. Legendary Pokemon Latias can be captured in Pokemon HeartGold. Her brother Latios can be captured in Pokemon SoulSilver. Both are exclusive to those games, unless the player has access to an Enigma Stone.

How does one get an Enigma stone?

From July 31 through August 27, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo are making the Enigma Stone available to Pokemon fans in North America. Players with wireless access will be able to download the special item, which eventually leads to a chance at catching Latios in HeartGold and Latias in SoulSilver.

In order to use the Enigma Stone, players will need to have beaten the Elite Four, claimed the National Pokedex, and have two or fewer Wonder Cards in their possession. Bulbapedia has a nifty little summary (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Enigma_Stone) of how the deal goes down.

Just make sure you go online and claim your Enigma Stone before August 27. Then you can start worrying about how to use it to get dates (http://kotaku.com/5598552/the-pokemon+powered-pick+up-line).

HeartGold is the better game, there are certain Pokemon you can only catch in HG. Otherwise he would have to trade with someone who has HG.

If images are important for your nephew, get SoulSilver. Pokemon carries enough of a negative image anyway.

Trade with yourself over the GTS.

-Download the file attached to this post, unzip it wherever.
-If you don't already have Python 2.6 download and install the version that fits your OS from http://python.org/download/
-In the files you unzipped earlier, look for sendpkm.py. Drag the PKM file you wish to send onto that file. Note that the PKM file must be a party PKM, not one from storage.
-A window will pop up telling you to set your DS's DNS server to the given address. To do this boot your pokemon game on your DS and choose "Nintendo WFC Settings" from the main menu.
-Tap whichever connection you're using and edit the settings. Select "No" for Auto-obtain DNS and enter the address given to you by the program for the primary DNS.
-Save the settings and go into the GTS/GTC ingame. It may take a few moments, but the PKM file on your computer will be sent to your game. If your party is full it will be sent to box 1 of the PC.
-Don't forget to set the DNS settings on your DS back to normal if you want to use official online functions!

There's no "right way," it's how you want to do it. When I played SoulSilver, I used my Dratini/Dragonair as much as possible because it evolved the slowest and latest. I used Dragonair against every single Team Rocket grunt in the Radio Tower (which got it to evolve by the end).

I haven't played a Pokemon game since Red/Blue/Yellow. I'm really interested in picking up Heart Gold or Soul Silver for my DS since I never played GBC Gold/Silver/Crystal.

Should I get Heart Gold/Soul Silver or just pick up Fire Red or Leaf Green for the GBA to relive the Red/Blue/Yellow era?

Filbert
10-06-2010, 03:32 PM
Story and setting aside, all the GBA Pokemon games have the same pokemon, items, and movesets. The same with the DS games. That's why Pokemon games are often referred to as belonging to "generations". Even though the story in Fire Red and Leaf Green would be familiar to you, much of it won't. And even then, going to Heart Gold and Soul Silver will be a change as well.

My advice would be to stick with the DS games if you have a DS. There really aren't many reasons to play the GBA ones.

Does anyone play competitively? I just picked up SoulSilver recently and my brother took notice, then asked if I want to battle. I know Smogon is a nice resource.

Any suggestions on what team I should construct? My brother is just a casual player, so I'm guessing it's anything goes (flat battle). I know he has a lot of the legendaries and he's really the pokemon addict so he might have other things up his sleeve-- which is why I don't think Smogon would help that much since they're more focused on strategy among tiers. Still, I want to destroy him, so what should I do in constructing a well balanced team?

In terms of where I am in the game, I just caught Lugia. I haven't really started gathering a lot of Pokemon or building a solid team. Really, my only developed Pokemon is a lv62 Typhlosion. =p

I was a little worried Nintendo would quietly expect everyone to get that terrible Pokemon Ranch (what are the absurd requirements? upload like a million pokemon?) game if they wanted Mew.

Use Smogen S they can be very helpful in team building if you look past the the tiers and all that.

Just look up your favorite pokemon and see the different ways to use them. Then use the team builder part and make ur own team how you want.
I play in a league and I'm the flying gym leader.

1 down, 1 to go...anyone else willing to help out?

I can probably do it twice. I have a USB adapter for DS carts that let's me copy game saves onto my computer. I'd just have to first trade it to my Diamond cart since the adapter doesn't work with the SS cart.

Go on about this USB adapter. Is this a way to use Pokesav on a legit cart?

This is the adapter. Same site I bought it from.

I think the easiest way to use PokeSav is to get an Action Replay. You can save the edit as a ARDS code, then drag that to the AR program and then copy it to your Action Reply while it's connected to your PC. You can use it on a legit cart. I've used it to give myself competitive Pokemon to use in Battle Tower.

I just want 999 BP and Game Corner coins so I can buy those TM's.

I don't play competitively and RNG abuse is out of my league, but there is some satisfaction in breeding a Pokemon with great IV's and EV training them yourself (rather than hacking a perfect one). Maybe that's just me.

Same here; I SR my legendaries and breeds. I'm glad to see that there are other people here who don't just manufacture RNG abused pokemon like a factory.

Go to your wonder cards section, hit A and trash the wonder card. You can only have a max of 3 of them at any time, once you get whatever it is they provide there is no point in keeping them.

Can anybody recommend some good places to grind before the rematch with the Elite Four besides calling up trainers over and over? All I've done today was fight Firebreather Walt repeatedly.

I just managed to beat them last night. What I did was pretty much grind on the elite 4, it's the best exp you're going to get.

Picked this up during one of Amazon's Black Friday Weekend Lightning Deals. I've got all 16 badges and am starting to obtain some of the NationalDex pokemon. Haven't started using the Pokewalker, although I really should.

Just picked up Heart Gold recently, any advice before I start up the game? I have been out of the Pokemon loop since Red/Blue/Yellow of the original Gameboy. Anything I should really watch out for, like one time events/items that were different from the original Red/Blue/Yellow? Thanks ahead.

RabbitSuit

Nah.

Gold and Silver were given an overhaul in that department. Those one-time event only can be captured even if you faint them. Once you beat the elite four, all of those special encounter pokemon like the roaming dogs, the legendary birds, snorlax, Ho-oh and so forth will respawn if you failed to capture them. Killed them the second time? Fight the Elite Four again.

It's a lot easier. You'll notice a level difference in pokemon too.

Hm, but at the start, you may want to hatch that egg you get and put it on your main team. It comes with a pretty decent new move and it's great for fighting upcoming ghost pokemon. Also, work on your Pokewalker. You can get a lot of great items from it. And don't do it by putting it on a collar of a pet or shaking it. Just wear it on your waist throughout your day. You'll rack up points fast enough.

Snake, I'm sorry I forgot completely about the pokies. Send me a PM to let me know which you're still looking for. If it's all of them, that's fine.

So I just beat Blue and then went to fight Red, just to see holy shit his pokemon are so much higher levels than mine (early 60s, except for my caught Ho-oh and Mewtwo which are 70). What is the best way to grind out all of those levels to fight Red, farming the Elite 4 over and over again? Thanks.

RabbitSuit

I'd say the Gym Leader rematches are your best bet. They'll basically give you the same EXP and money as fighting the elite 4, but it'll be a lot faster without the dialogue and whatnot. Plus they're finally all using six pokemon.

It can take a while to get all of their phone numbers, but once they're stored, no matter what time, you can call one of them down there repeatedly to grind on. Oh and get a Lucky Egg to double your EXP rate. They're a bit rare to find in-game (least in HG/SS), so you may want to try trading for one.

DeskLaser

Thanks, doing that means I can farm which gym leader is weak to the individual pokemon I need to grind up, since they all should be of that type, making it go by faster. I just have to figure out how to deal with his Snorlax and Pikachu, since I don't have any fighters or ground pokemon in my normal rotation. I do use another Snorlax (personal fave, hehe), so maybe I could just use him to brute force Pikachu with. Then maybe brute force the Snorlax with psychic with either Mew or Mewtwo.

Started playing HeartGold recently and just finished gym leader Jasmine. I can't believe how difficult of a time I had, just won by spamming.

I kind of wish I could transfer my level 50s from my old Pokemon Blue cartridge. It seems that's not possible.

Double Post/Bump

I beat the elite 4 on Heart Gold. Can't seem to find any ghost type or dark types except the crow bird one. I just arrived in Lavender Town and from my shock that the ghost tower is replaced with something else.

Anyway, now that I'm a little further in the game. Is there any more reasons to pick up LeafGreen/FireRed?

I might pick up Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald because of exclusive Pokemon. The only reason I'd pick up FR/LG is because I don't have a copy of Soul Silver and another DS. I also can't connect to the Internet with my DSlite.

Besides playing through LeafGreen/FireRed, I think you are also be able to use the Pal Park feature with HeartGold so you could transfer your team from the game(s) to your HeartGold save file if you wanted. Depends on how much you want the additional Kanto pokemon in those versions in addition to their legendaries, even though you can catch a lot of them in the Kanto area of HeartGold. I guess the biggest benefit would be the fact that you could get as many of the Kanto starters as you'd want since you could constantly re-start the game. You'd get more variety if you had Ruby/Saphire/Emerald, and used the Pal Park to transfer them over though.

Regarding a Ghost type, a quick search on Serebii shows that you can find Misdreavus in the following locations:
Mt. Silver
The Cliff Cave
Safari Zone
http://serebii.net/pokedex-dp/200.shtml

For a Dark type, another quick search on Serebii for Houndour revealed the following locations:
Route 7
Safari Zone (Special Items)
http://serebii.net/pokedex-dp/228.shtml

If you're rather have a pure Dark type, there's also Poochyena who can find found on route 1: http://serebii.net/pokedex-dp/261.shtml

I think it has to be night time for you to encounter any of them. The Serebii "Details" link next to the locations you can find them in for HeartGold has more information. Those are just three that I remembered off of the top of my head, so there may be others that are different/better.

Thanks for the response. I've used that website as a reference before, but got discouraged.

It said that there was a pokemon I was looking for in the Slowpoke Well. Either it was a dark type, ghost type, or some other type of pokemon that was there.

I never found that a particular pokemon in the well. Thanks again, I'll take a look at the mentioned locations.

Edit: On a side note, I kind of wish technical/technique machines, TMs were unlimited or could be found again in Heart Gold/Soul Silver. I heard that Pokemon Black/White has unlimited TMs.

Went through the Celebi event, kinda wish there was more too it. Still Giovanni getting his butt kicked again did feel nice.

And I finally caught a freakin' Kyogre with a Heavy Ball, after soo many failures with it, especially with other pokemon.
