I'm considering buying an Elite ass the go for around 250 refurbished, but is it trustworthy? There's no guarantee that it the dvd drive hasn't been hacked or the console hasn't RRoD'd. The other option is the buy a brand new Arcade along with a 120GB HDD and some component cables and end up with the same level of equipment for a bit more money.

Get a jasper arcade and buy a hard drive to upgrade it. (Either a live pack or a 120GB).

White man from town says take it off.

The flip side to a refurb is that is something is going to happen, chances are it already did. You might get one with recent replacement parts.

And we all know those replacements are prone to dying again extremely fast unless they are already screwed up...

True. Its a crap shoot either way. At least when you buy new, you have some sort of warranty.

Dont ever buy a "refurbished" 360. Always buy new just so you have the warranty and peace of mind. Who knows happened to that console...worst case scenario is that it could have been banned from XBL, preventing you from playing online. I would simply stay away from it, period.

I wonder why, seeing as you can "repair" them. Most people can't, and get stuck shipping their box to MS and waiting weeks, just to get another screwed up one back and having to repeat the process. And that's even IF the xbox still is under warranty. The chances of you getting a 360 that is not about to mess up or already messed up is EXTREMELY low. Just stick it out and either save up for a new elite or get an arcade now and slowly upgrade. You'll be glad you did...

Do not get a used 360.

"Refurbished"? By who? Gamestop? Heh.

Given the track record of the 360, I can't believe anyone would even consider buying one that isn't the latest model fresh off the boat from China.

Ouch, this thread hurts. I sell refurbished 360s all the time, I do it myself. I've only had one break on me, but I used low quality stuff when I fixed that one (I've since upgraded to the best), and the person played waaaay too long. I replaced it at no cost, but that's just me. If you're interested shoot me a pm.

I agree with you I have sold many refurb 360's and only one has had a problems after I fixed it.
