So I decided to update the address on my Monster.com resume on tuesday. (I was bored.) The next day, I had a voicemail waiting for me about a job opportunity. Most of the time it's some headhunter looking for an IT lacky to do some menial rollout work for a few weeks. I usually don't bother calling them back but this time I did. To my surprise, the job is actually pretty damn cool. It's a senior level desktop support position for The Exective Office of the President of the United States!!!!
:shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock:: shock::shock:
The crazy thing about it was I had no idea what the headhunter was talking about when he first told me who the job was for. For some reason I thought he was refering to some stuffed shirt CEO's at ABC company. It wasn't until I asked him to clarify the location that I realized what an awesome opportunity this could be.
I'm still waiting for confirmation on my interview so there's a possibility that I won't even get to interview. Still, I'm pretty amazed that such an interesting opportunity would present itself through no real effort on my part.

Good luck! Do you have any type of security clearance? You'll probably need to pass that if you don't. Keep us informed!

I would stay away from that one. The government will probe into everything that has anything to do with you before even considering you for the job. If you do get the job and take it, the possibility exists that sometime down the road you might accidentily come across some privledged information that could suddenly cause your brakes to fail one night on your way home from work.

Woohoo!!! I just received the confirmation for my interview. Time to get a haircut and a shave. I hope my suit isn't too wrinkled. :D
bradr- You know that's the best part, this job doesn't require security clearance, just the ability to obtain it. AFAIK, I meet the base requirements (US citizen, no bankruptcies, CAG Mod status...). It sounds like a clearance will be processed for the eventual candidate so that too could be great. Thanks for the well wishes everyone!

If you get the job can you send me one of those cool pens the President uses? Not the Sharpies, but the real deal.

Good luck! Obtaining a clearance (should be pretty high for this job) is going to help open A LOT of other doors when this one's over, especially around this area.

Don't worry about the clearance, getting a Secret is pretty easy. Getting a Top Secret, now that takes some damn paperwork, but paperwork to be done on the company's dime. I think my TS took somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 months to get cleared (during my stint with Uncle Sam). Regardless, good luck with the interview.

judging by what I've seen on the West Wing, it seems like a pretty great job. If you get it, let the president know I thought he was awesome in Apocalypse Now!

Well, I'm off to my interview. This is defintely exciting. Everything has happened so fast that I haven't even had time to get my poker face on. Hopefully that won't be detrimental. See you guys in a few hours!

This sounds rude as hell, and I'm sure it is, but how much is the starting pay? If you rather not post it that is cool. Just kind of wondering since it sounds so fancy...

Well the interview went really well. I hit it off with everyone that I spoke to. Now comes the waiting. They have to do a background check which could take weeks. It doesn't help that I have a very common catholic name. I feel good about my chances but there's no telling what sorts of information the government looks for.
As for the pay, well let's just say I won't be homeless. :D

Why does your name matter?
As for background checks, I remember when a buddy of mine went into the Navy. I was listed as a character reference. One day around 10AM a Navy Intelligence Officer showed up unannounced on my doorstep to interview me.
Unfortunately, it was a Sunday and I was still in college. The night before I had partied hardy and had a splitting hangover. So I wasn't in the best cndition to give an interview. I wasn't expectuing anyone at 10 on a Sunday. When I answered the door I was disheveled, half naked, and having difficulty making coherent sentences...
Good times...

Congrats on the good interview. I knew someone that was trying to get a security clearance and the type of things that they were interested in were whether or not he had alot of debt or a gambling problem (and would be inclined to sell information to someone in order to repay it), alcohol consumption, whether or not he has was an anarchist or had a criminal record, etc. So if you have led a reasonably clean life hopefully you will be fine.
