I believe it needs a new 72-Pin Connector. The thing lasted 24 years.. Is there anything I should try before sending it to my local VG store for repairs?
Thanks :]
Nope. Just properly clean your cartridges (not blowing) so gunk doesn't build up in there again. I

How about using one of those cans of compressed air?
Is there anything wrong with using them?

Back when I still had an NES I just ordered a new pin connector cheap from Ebay ($6-10) and installed it myself. Hella easy to do and I never had to blow on cartridges again.

Before I replace the pin connector, what I'd so is
put in a cart, press it down, and then press it up,
as if I was going to remove it. However, I didn't
let it come up all the way. What I'd do then
is take a 2nd cartridge and wedge it between
the silver bar thing, that the first cart is up against,
and the top of the inside of the NES. Does this make
sense?

Yeah, I was going to suggest the same as the above posters. We used the 'wedge' method many times and I wouldnt have a problem doing the pin replacement myself...but I never play my NES anymore.

I'd just repair the 72 pin yourself. It's pretty easy to do so.

Either repair it yourself or find a used NES. They can't be all that expensive. I've replaced my connector and it was very simple.

Have you taken it apart and cleaned it really good with alcohol and q-tips? It worked for my Genesis.

Like people have been saying you can replace the connector yourself. It's not hard at all. I'm sure you could find a video tutorial somewhere on youtube.
As for the games get rubbing alchool (I use my wife's nail polish remover) and some q-tips and use that to clean the cart. There's also other methods for an even deeper cleaning but for the most part this works like a charm.

PLEASE make sure you dilute the rubbing alcohol or the np remover, or you will eventually ruin your games. Hell, the np remover is probably not good to use at all...
I think the recommended rubbing alcohol to water ratio is like 1:5.
