Don't know if this has been posted but here is the list of all Chrysler dealerships that are closing

http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/msnbc/sections/business/Chrysler_dealers_list.pdf

On one of the news stations (CNN, FOX, MSN) an owner of a dealership was saying that they have over a million dollars worth of NEW cars that will have to go by the end of June. I found 2 out of the 3 dealerships near me on this list.

I really don't think the deals from these closings are going to be all that great.

But if anyone sees a new 09 Viper coupe for $65k shoot me a PM. I've been watching auotrader and ebay and so far the cheapest price I've seen for a new car is $75k.

The one that sold my dad our Chargers is not on the list. Good for them.

Holy Shyet out East though. lool

No kidding. I wonder what's up with that. Did they over-expand there or do people just hate Chryslers more there?

Maybe they did more over towards the east because it's closer to home (Michigan) and cheaper to ship out down the block? I've never been anywhere East, but maybe people over there like domestic better than here on the west? Other than that no clue.

Edit: Athough, if you ask me... setting up a dealership like it's a Starbucks so close without knowing that people think you're starting to suck then you're bound to run into problems down the road.

I think the dealers that are closing will just sell their unsold inventory to other dealers.

But, remember the sales people wont be making a commission on the inventory that gets sold to other dealers, so get out there and lowball 'em.

Chances are they will just sell to other dealers or if they can sell them as used they will do that and just become a used car lot.

Don't dealers usually not own the actual cars on the lot? I remember that story about a car dealer being arrested for stealing a car off his lot, because the car technically still belonged to the manufacturer.

I'm not really sure how it works with new cars and dealerships. I remember reading at one time that dealers made more from used cars than new ones. As for who owns the car I'm not sure. The dealer that was on the news said they had over a million dollars worth that they had to get rid of. So I don't know if they would be able to sell it to other dealers or back to chrysler. I know if I ownded a dealership chances are really low I would buy a car from another one that I might not be able to sell.

Dealers do make more from used cars than new cars. Most dealers actually buy their inventory from the automaker on credit. Dealers actually live and die on their services. These closing dealers are either going to sell their inventory to other dealers or liquidate them, which ever method looks to minimize losses.

The owner of Lambo OC got arrested for dumping all of his inventory at insanely low prices right before he closed shop because the cars were still technically owned by VW, who provided the dealer financing for Lambo OC. He sold close to 20 cars in a 2 week period before trying to run, apparently all cash transactions for about half of normally MSRP. He sold new Gallardos for $120-$150k......about $100k below list. LP-640's for low $200's. The whole thing was a huge legal mess, that I actually think is still going on. VW had several of the cars seized by the Feds and last I had heard the people that had bought the cars from Lambo OC had no car and had not got their money back.

Most dealerships buy their inventory from the automaker on credit so who actually owns the autos on the dealer lots is going to be determined by the financing agreements that the dealer has made with the automaker. At this point, the automakers want to get as much as they can for these autos. In some markets it will be more cost effective to just shift these units to other dealerships but in some regions it will be more cost effective to just dump the units to consumers way below MSRP. It is really going to depend on how may dealers are in your area, what their inventory levels are and what agreements they have with the automakers.

Like I said, I'm really not expecting to see any deals of a lifetime here but if someone should happen across an 09 Viper coupe in the $60s I would defintately be interested in talking to the dealer.

I can see at best a car that is 14k going to 10k. Other then that at best maybe 10% off and that is pushing it.

EDIT: Also I'm sure they will not even take trade ins unless they plan on going to be a used car dealer.
