Playstation today invaded Best Buys across the country as part of a new outreach program entitled Experience Playstation Now.
The idea is that Playstation reps take to stores with some new games and plenty of knowledge to help educate people about the benefits of Playstation ownership. While this means games, it also means showing off some of the PS3's other, more unique abilities like media streaming, PSP linking and Blu-ray playing.
Today was a test case at select Best Buys across the country, I'm told, with Sony and the retailer looking at the impact Experience Playstation Now has on sales over the coming months.
The Best Buy near my house had a small area set up next to the gaming section of the store. The rep brought with him a full copy of InFamous as well as a full copy of Rock Band UnPlugged on a blue Playstation Portable.
Sounds like an excellent idea for Sony to do some grassroots outreach, especially if everything we're hearing about this year's E3 is true.

I think it's high time that Sony did this as I firmly believe that people do not understand the real value of a PS3 until they actually interact with it. Yet perhaps this is really the only time in which such an outreach effort could begin given that, IMO, the PS3 is just now really coming into its own in terms of games and entertainment-synergy (Video downloads, PSP link, etc). And timing this right before E3 should get people interested and keeping an eye out for the upcoming announcements come June.
If they threw in some contests/free swag, I'm sure it would draw a really large interest. May not necessarily mean sales immediately, but at least it gets people to begin considering the PS3 and related Sony products.
Seriously -- I have no idea why TheManaKnight isn't a member of this outreach squad. He'd be the absolute perfect spokesperson as practically everyone who knows his passion can attest to.
