I believe it was Breakout for the 2600, may have been Adventure, Combat, Freeway, Pitfall or ET, but I'm pretty sure it was Breakout.

edit - I also had Zork early on... anyone know the year that came out? It could be my first.

Something for the Atari 800. I could narrow it down to about a dozen possible candidates but cannot recall better than that.

Super Mario Bros., but that came with the NES at the time, so I'll say......

Sears Tele-Games pseudo-'Pong' set, the kind that you plug into the TV, has the controllers built in to the 'console' and you can switch between Pong, Tennis, and like one other game.
Still have it, not sure if it works.

I got an NES for Christmas when I was around 5 or so. As for the first that I purchased with my own money, I guess it would be Sega Channel. It was $15 a month, and I would do chores to pay for it, so technically it was the first that I was responsible for. Too bad it's gone. I'd probably still play it.

An original Magnavox Odyssey. Not an Odyssey II mind you, an original Odyssey - complete with the giant full size light rifle (not gun -RIFLE!) and all those static cling overlays for the tv screen. I used to play the "Haunted House" rom chip religiously...which in essence was a white block you moved around on the screen that lit up various see thru areas on the overlay - oooo scary! Basically the whole system was something like a giant pong variant. Man I'm old...

The first video game I ever owned myself was Dig Dug, for the Atari 800. The first electronic game (what we had to settle for before Game Boy) I had was called Red Light, Green Light. It's an electronic version of the classic kid's game, in which there was a red and green light in the center, and two rows of lights on the sides. When the center light was green, you pressed your button and it would light up one light for every press. If you pressed it when the light was red, you'd lose all your lights and start over. The first to the top would win.

First in my family would have been an entire box of Atari 2600 games. I think I've still got that box somewhere in my basement. The controllers died years ago, and I've never replaced them...

First personally would probably be Kirby's Adventure for my NES. Another possibility would have to be the Power Rangers GB game, which I've still got in my Game Boy bag to this day. I haven't played it in ages...but I've still got it. :D

I forgot if either mine was Kirby's Dream Course, or Donkey Kong Country for the Super Nintendo. For if so Kirby, I remember when it was my only game for about 2 months, before I got NBA Jam or DK, some order like that, and Kirby was the only game I could play. I played it few hours right afterschool until night, and I mastered the game like crazy. Like when I was like 1st grade, and I had some friends over, and I would pwn them with all these hole-in-ones, and they said I was cheating, because they were noobs. :D

Fantasy Zone for the Sega Master System. Or maybe Zillion.
Parents never bought me an NES when I was a kid, so I grew up with mostly Sega systems for the most part. Didn't get an SNES or NES until after the N64 came out. I had plenty of experience with them, though, my friends rocked. :)

Ever? I know for a fact that I've played Mario on my SNES system when I was younger (around 3 or 4 years old). I think that might have been the first game I owned..

On a more recent note, my first next-gen game was Kingdom Hearts.

EDIT - 300th post!

I got my first game when I was either 7 or 8. It was when I got a Black Gameboy and Bonk's Revenge. Thus began my obsession with handheld gaming, and my neverending love of Nintendo.

And the rest... is history. Of course then I got a Genesis, but that's another story...

We had a Commodore 64, but I don't remember what any of the game titles were. One was ballons falling from the sky and a clown had to pop them, the other was one where you record movies, and the last one you decorated grandma's house. As far as consoles are concerned, my first game was Q-bert.

I really can't remember (as far as what would really be my "first" game owned would be concerned). My first game system was an Intellivision my grandpa gave to be for my 8th birthday (a looong time ago, I'm 23 now), which was probably his, since there was no box, and it came with 6 or so games. I remember having a casino game, a horse racing game, Burgertime, a racing game, a checkers game and I think a chess game. So I guess all of those were the first ones I ever had.
