Well, first off, I hadn't even noticed that EA had dumped the LOTR videogame license (and yes, this is the movie license, not the book one). I guess EA will never get around to working on The White Council RPG, now. Pity, as I thought that sounded like it had potential, but I guess I can understand them being sour on the brand, after that Lord of the Rings: Conquest disaster (though that was their fault, of course).

Anyways, guess what, Tolkien fans! Warner Bros Interactive has picked up the license, and is already hard at work on their first game based on the classic high-fantasy series! Listings from E3 lineups mention that WB will be discussing their first game based on the illustrious LOTR license, which will be called "The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest." Sounds like it could be awesome, right? Aragorn is one badass mammajamma, right? The concept of playing an entire game as that orc-slaying king of men has plenty of potential, right? You have no idea! Here's the official blurb:

"Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest is the first Lord of the Rings videogame created specifically for kids and their families. The title will feature accessible gameplay set in a friendly, colorful rendition of Middle-Earth."

...wait, what? What the fuck is this bullshit?!?

Like that craptastic game, "The Hobbit", eh? Way to take what is one of the most perfect licenses for gaming and drive it into the ground.

Why not skip what they're planning anyway and just announce Lego Lord of the Rings already, though, this could very well be it in which case I retract my first comment...maybe.

Oh man, I totally forgot about that game! I bought it at a Best Buy $5 sale back in the day, and it really was the epitome of mediocre.

IMO, the only decent LOTR games are The Two Towers and Return of the King. Whoever greenlighted this kiddy Aragorn game will get theirs. Oh yes, they will get theirs.

Except that would probably be pretty awesome.

Both Battle for Middle Earth games are pretty good, and while I've never played it I have several friends who really like LotR Online.

I don't know what you're talking about, that art style looks very good. Very similar to Battalion Wars 2 (which was also from this studio), which was a really good game besides the lack of checkpoints. Also they did House of the Dead: Overkill which was really great, so I have high hopes for this game.
