A coworker showed me this adapter available at Amazon (and other places). It can hold two Micro SD cards, and 'fuses' them into one for your MSPD needs. About half of the customer reviewers purchased it for their PSPs, and about the only negative thing they've mentioned is that the product is kinda flimsy.
In theory, you could get 32GB MSPD for less than the cost of a 16GB MSPD, since you can purchase 16GB Micro SD cards for much less than a 16GB MSPD.
The product itself is only about $15

I use this. Works great.
However, it's much cheaper from DX.

Just got mine a day ago from DX. They were backordered for a bit. Now I am waiting for the 16GB micro sd cards to drop in price. $50 a piece is still a little too much for me. I bet the prices will drop significantly by the November/December time frame.

Fry's has 16GB MicroSD cards frequently for $30, although their best price currently is $35 AR.
http://www.frys.com/product/5885833?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Compare to $80 for a 16 GB MSPD.

Keep in mind, this probably won't work with DRMed stuff.

What exactly is magicgate anyways? Besides fake MS not supporting it, what does it actually do? I bought an 8GB MSPD last weekend, but am thinking about returning it and going the SDHC Adapter route. I never thought about the whole magic gate thing, but then agian, I don't know what its purpose is in the first place.

i don't know if this will help anyone, but it might be a temporary fix until the prices drop on the 16 GB micro sd cards. they give a discount for buying three, plus there is a mail in rebate.

For anyone who's still wondering, I use a Photofast dual-MicroSDHC adapter with my PSP, and it works great. So far, I've only filled one slot with a 16 GB Class 6 A-Data MicroSDHC card from Newegg, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a decent equivalent MSProDuo, and so far it's stable and fast. Plus, I've got an extra slot to add a second 16 GB card when I run out of space. :)

Thanks for the heads up. I ordered the adapter and two 8gb Micro SDHC cards. So, will I only be able to play media off these or can I play my PS1 classics off this?

From what I've read, it would be as if you had one 16GB MSPD in your PSP, and have the same functionality as such. If someone can verify this from first-hand experience, go ahead. But the reviews on Amazon from PSP owners seem to point that way.

Yes, the two MicroSDHC units are read as a single unit once formatted in the PSP, so you basically get one 16 GB card. I've got 2 16 GB Micros in my adapter, so it reads as 32 GB. Once you get this working, you'll never want to go back! :)

It won't be magic gate enabled so you may not be able to play officially downloaded ps1 games from the sony store. PSone games you ripped yourself on custom firmware are another story....

People on the official Sony PSP boards are saying that they can definitely play PSN stuff on their setup like this. Of course, there are no guarantees. I have a huge library of PSOne titles, so I just make my own rather than re-buy them, so I have no personal experience.
And yes, the PSP does see the full 32 GB of space. Or, rather, slightly less than 32 GB since it's a bit less after formatting, but that's just a technical difference in terminology.

From experience, it works... I was able to download UMD classics and PS1 classics and it worked flawlessly on my 8gb x 2 setup. I can play PS1 and PSP games without a hitch.

Honestly, this is the way to enjoy the PSP. My PSP 1000 with the 32 GB setup and a $15 Stamina Battery from GameFunk really feels like I've unleashed the potential of the device. I would've bought this thing just to portable-ize my PSOne library, let alone all the good PSP games.

So are any of you using this using the official firmware? This seems to be a viable alternative to forking over extra $$$ for a PSP Go.

Just by the 2 card with the pro duo adapter, format it on the PSP, not the PC, and it will work.

Taggy. If folks start coming across really cheap 4GB or 8GB prices, I'd love to see em. The Amazon one isn't bad, but shipping kind of kills the dead for me.

Frys.com has the 16GB micro sdhc card for $32.99 after a $10 rebate. Gotta hurry though, today is the last day for the rebate. http://www.frys.com/product/5885833?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Yah, I saw that late. I actually refuse to buy anything with a rebate through Frys after getting burned once and never having it resolved. Bought something that was supposed to be free after rebate...rebate never showed up, had no way to get my money. In general, I avoid rebates too, after getting scammed on buy.com memory sticks. That one actually blew up pretty big on the internet back when it happened. The company "honoring" the memory sticks went bankrupt, but it reeked of a wink, wink, nod nod deal between them and buy.com with those rebates.
Pissed me off to no end.

That Polaroid card from Frys doesn't specify that it's a Class 6 card, either. I'm betting it's not. If you're going to go this route, you might as well spring for the Class 6 card and reduce your loadtimes/eliminate any lag. I keep spouting it again and again, but the Class 6 A-Data Micro SDHC cards from Newegg have never given me any issues. Pricier, but nto considering that they're Class 6. This is one of those things that you want to do right since the performance of your whole rig is going to depend on the Micro SDHCs that you put in the thing.

I'm going to hit up frys and pick one of these adapters and a couple of 8 gig cards up tonight. Other formatting it on the PSP, is there anything else I need to do if I'm using the official firmware?

Interesting. How does the thing work when using 2 MicroSDHC cards on the PSP?
I know that people have mentioned that the PSP will read both cards as if it is one. But, what folders are on the two cards after formatting? If I take one stick out and put it in my computer to copy stuff...will I see all the necessary folders to dump stuff to?

Good quality, good price? Better alternatives out there? What do you guys think?
