UPDATED-OFFER EXTENDED TO JUNE 27

I looked and didn't see this posted elsewhere, but there is an interesting trade in deal at amazon. You trade in either $50 or $75 worth of games, get the gift card credit for the games AS WELL AS a matching bonus coupon towards a purchase of a new system. The details don't specify which systems, but the links on the page make it seem that it is good for both the major systems (even the Dreamcast (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00000K2R4)!!!) as well as portable ones, such as the DSi and PSP. Trade in has to happen in the next two weeks but the bonus coupon is good until Aug 31

Thanks OP, this was a pretty good find. I know that I'll want a PSP for when the Kingdom Hearts game comes out and I just so happen to have over $75 bucks worth of DS games (less likely to be rejected) that I'm through with. May have to give this one a spin.

Do movie/TV trade ins count towards the 50/75? It doesn't say the trade-ins must be games, but I haven't seen the movie trade in until today...

This almost works out perfectly for us, but the timing of getting the code won't bee soon enough (we need the DSi within the next week to give as a gift). Potential good flip is GH Metallica (360) from gamestop, $44.99 used, if you can find 3 today (I don't think they are showing availability online, so I have no idea how likely that is), gets $25.25 credit each. So, $150+ in Amazon credit from $90 spent at GS. Also, Mirror's Edge could work if you have one of the magic Target's that still has plenty (never could find it here).

If that doesn't work, youcould just do the $75 option instead.

I have to agree, if this stays long enough for a PSP GO pre-order that would be amazing, I really hope so considering the announcement to come on Tuesday.

Wow, I got the urge today for a PSP, and lo and behold this comes. My friend offered to sell me his COD:WaW for $25, and while I would love to play it, it would be nice to get the extra trade-in credit here. That would leave me with another $25 to trade in, which seems reasonable :)

hummmm buy 3 copies for 45 bucks and toss in a junk ds game to get to 75
or

63 bucks for a brand new DSI That has to be super hot

75 would double for the DSI 150 -170 needs 20.... 65 bucks for a brand new dsi Very tempting

Can you trade in more than $75, say $100 and still get the extra $75?

alfonsosoriano
06-01-2009, 02:11 AM

IAmTheCheapestGamer
06-01-2009, 02:23 AM
What do they do if the item you want will end up with extra $$$/credit being leftover? I ask because I'm looking at one of the Retro Duo systems that plays NES and SNES games.

Of course, I should've just kept the $8 SNES I bought and found wires for, but I was stupid.

EDIT: Holy crap. They take in games as old as the NES for trade. Unfortunately, I only have games for the Genesis and most of them were bought used and cart only.

By the way, it's not Amazon buying them but a third party buyer.

Second EDIT: It must be a CAG buying the games, since anything from the Kmart clearance is $2.25 or so. Fuck. WOO HOO!! Futurama for the PS2 is worth a whopping $1.25 more than at GS.

06-01-2009, 02:27 AM
This is seriously making me consider flipping my GS credit into amazon for an extra 360 Arcade or possibly upgrading my Lite to a DSi. After trading back the controller and extras, I can get the 360 console itself for about $100 in credit.

I am seriously considering trading in NHL 09 for $21. It's my favorite game, I play it all the time, but I know that once the summer hits I won't play it as much, just like I didn't play NHL 08 during that time. I'm gonna buy NHL 10, so what's the point in keeping it...tough call.

It says in the T&C that your trade-in will be returned if it contains wrong items.

So say I search for a game and the greatest hits version is listed, if I send a regular version does that count as a "wrong item"?

I have a few games I would trade in for this deal but they only list the greatest hits version of a few of them. But if you search for a game like God of War 2 they have both versions listed.

If you search for a game and don't find a TIV for it, does that mean they won't take it though? I ask because I just searched the Genesis, SNES and NES game listings and the Genesis listings only brought up a single page, most of which are a minimum of a 5 on the Digit Press rarity guide.

I mean, I guess they don't wanna end up with 10k copies of Sonic, while paying $3 each in trade for them, but it's still a bit deceiving to only go after CERTAIN games while not listing values for any others.

Plus, most of the current gen games they have listed have deplorable TIV's, which are just as bad if not worse than Gamestops.

Still, I thank the OP for listing this deal, though I'd only trade my stuff in if I were getting a DS or other system for a small fraction of $$$ out of pocket.

I read a little deeper in their trade in FAQ and it said the item has to match the listed item EXACTLY.

I sent an email to support to make sure though. It would be kind of weird that they would want greatest hits stuff over regular versions wouldn't it? lol

I thought I read before that the games didn't have to have their original cases, but now I don't see that anywhere. . . Would it be okay to have a 360 game in a black dvd case?

Here's something you guys may want to add to the first post, about the condition the games HAVE to be in to qualify. It'll save you guys a bunch of hassle when you try sending in games in black cases with no coverart or manual and they get sent back.

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/tradein/store/popup_tradein_eligibility.gif

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html/ref=amb_link_83397471_1?location=http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/tradein/store/popup_tradein_eligibility.gif&token=957BBB0669152D76BE1C614537975585163C1748&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0AY3VK0GY3MP00HE4N3H&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=478190151&pf_rd_i=979418011

In other words, NO disc only games in plain DVD cases with NO manual or coverart allowed.

Shady3011
06-01-2009, 03:28 AM
I'm guessing a lot of people are new to Amazon's trade-in policy. It's basically BBV, so you won't get away with stuff like game only like at Gamestop.

IAmTheCheapestGamer
06-01-2009, 03:30 AM
If they did allow game only stuff and had more games listed than JUST the ones they're specifically looking for, I would easily trade in most of the games I have for the Genesis right now.

If you want to check to see which games are allowed and which ones aren't on their trade list, you can just select the system it's for in the drop down menu and hit SEARCH without inputting the name of the game and it'll bring up EVERY game they're taking for that system.

Shady3011
06-01-2009, 03:40 AM
Yeah. It's really pretty poor. You need to dig through pages of crap to maybe find a deal or two. Most of time other places give more than they do base alone.

I'll probably just use clearance games and light fodder (which there isn't much of) to maybe get a DC.

Vin Diesel's Wheelman(360/PS3) trades in for $23 and drops to $14.98 at Target this week.
This sounds like a really good deal. Do you know exactly when the price will drop and if they will have a lot of copies (or YMMV)?

I read a little deeper in their trade in FAQ and it said the item has to match the listed item EXACTLY.

I sent an email to support to make sure though. It would be kind of weird that they would want greatest hits stuff over regular versions wouldn't it? lol

They give $0.25 more for the God of War II GH version than they do original black label.

anyone ever used their trade in service before?
How long would I be waiting in between when I ship the games out till when I get the gift card?

this sounds like a good deal...I'm even tempted to just buy stuff on clearances that i can get 1:1 on their website. This way I'd end up paying 125 for an arcade 360. (after getting the $75 coupon code)

The only issue for me is time.

That's what the instructions imply, but that is a real rip-off if you're getting $4 TIV for something like Final Fantasy complete for Snes lol

I've done it twice. In both cases, they deposited my gift cards into my Amazon account just about 1 week after I dropped them in the mail. The bonus coupon codes for both trades were emailed to me 3 or 4 days later.

YMMV, of course, but I was impressed with the quick turnaround. I will definitely do this deal if I can find $75 worth of stuff to flip.

gotta do find $75 bucks of games I can trade in. probably gonna trade out some of my Wii games. perhaps, Mario Super Sluggers, Mario Strikers Charged. still need more games though. maybe gotta pick up Wheelman and trade it in to them. Should be pretty close to $75 after that.

What do yall guys think I should trade in from this list:
-Mario Super Sluggers
-Mario Strikers Charged
-Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games
-Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkachi 3 (or w/e its called)
-Sonic: Secret Rings
-Cooking Mama: Cook Off
-Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
-Okami

I have more games, but I think I want to keep them. BTW, that is only my Wii list.

I have a few cart only N64/Genesis stuff that I would like to unload, so it would be nice to find out what the official deal on cart only stuff is.

no limit on the number of copies of one game in one trade in order as long as the total trade in doesn't exceed $250.

If you have a bunch of NBA 09 The Inside from the previous BB $10 deal, they each ti for $10.25. Or other games from the massive BB $10 promo a few weeks ago.

Also, it's more than likely been mentioned already, but it's worth noting once more that Amazon pays your shipping cost. Which is pretty freaking cool.

For anyone interested, The Force Unleashed from Game Crazy is a good flip for this deal, both PS3 & 360. Stopped by today & picked up a few copies; breaking even on the Amazon trade-in after the tax I paid at Game Crazy, but the $75 bonus is gravy.

If you want a PS3, you could probably save yourself some time and just get it from Dell for 15% off + free SH. That makes it $340 + tax for most, but your probably losing money on the $75 worth of games your trading in. I thought the sony style card only gave you a discount off the sony style store.

The best ways to convert GS credit > Amazon credit aren't even 1:1. These values are absolutely horrendous without this coupon. If i can find all the games I need in decent condition, which shouldn't be an issue, I am looking at $144 > $128 from GS to Amazon, which brings me right up to what I would need for a 360 Arcade. Trading back the memory card and wireless controller should net $35.50 back at GS, since I already have those. Net total $109 GS credit for a brand new 360 console isn't too bad.

I am almost wondering if it is worth the leg work to get it for $144 versus $199. I don't pay tax and shipping either way, and with buying it at GS, I have instant service and don't have to worry about the games being rejected. Plus I save the gas money and few hours that this is going to take.

Anyway I wasn't going to post these until tomorrow, but since I'm debating the whole idea, here you go:

360 Tiger Woods 09 26.99 - 20.50
Wii Tiger Woods 09 27.99 - 20.00
PS3 Tiger Woods 09 26.99 - 21.00
360 Tales of Vesperia 26.99 - 20.50
Wii Star Wars: TFU 17.99 - 13.00
PSP Star Wars: TFU 17.99 - 14.00
360 MLB 2k9 34.99 - 23.00
Wii Umbrella Chronicles 26.99 - 17.25

Don't forget to apply edge and 10% coupon.

Holy hell this is tempting, I checked their list and I see 3 games I paid $10 for from Best Buy that go for $10+.. Quantum of Solace is $13 and so is SCIV, and then The Inside 09 is also $10.

So I'd just need to send in a $20 or so game (Mario Galaxy?) for a PS2.

Edit- How long will this actually take.. I think I'm a bit too instant gratification for this.

ShinMegami: Nocturne: 23.00
Xenosaga 4: 10.25

Halo 3: 17.25
Starfox Assult: 6.00

I'm torn on whether I should get it here, or a $170 one off Dell...those are confirmed Jaspers.

Before you go out and buy all these used games from different places to flip on Amazon, do realize that amazon can reject your submissions for scratches or missing manual or any other defects. Unless you can flip the same games elsewhere for same money or profit some 25+ days(your shipping transit and amazon return shipping transit) later if your games are rejected then you are screwed.

Also there is no way to track the packages when sending using Amazon's printed label. I've seen few discussions where people submitted games and Amazon not receiving it for 3 weeks and onwards(Mine from CA took 2 weeks to confirm receipt of package).

I'm also a little scared of them rejecting one of my games and missing out on the deal by a few dollars. I have a copy of Pokemon XD that has some very slight damage to the insert (I got it from a trade sight that has the trader send you the disc, manual, and insert, but no case for whatever reason, so the insert was folded and damaged slightly in the mail), but otherwise it's okay. I bought a Gamecube case from Nintendo's store to make it complete. If they were to reject it though, I'd fall short. I could include an extra $8 to cover up for it, but I don't want to jump through too many hoops. I'm reaching as it is for the 75.

ShinMegami: Nocturne: 23.00

You do realize that you can get ALOT more for Nocturne on EBay, right?

Anyone has a list of old Playstation/xbox games that are worth a decent amount ? I only knew about marvel vs capcom 2, but now I am seeing that Final Fantasy VII is also worth a good amount and I have that one and I am willing to get rid of it.

And another question, if you also trade movies are they taken into account for this offer (for anyone that has used one of these deals before).

Thanks.

I DO hope you're not going to trade it into them for $25, when you could make as much as THREE TIMES that by selling it on Ebay. Same thing with MVC2. I swear, I think some should have their CAG cards revoked for selling 'rare' or sought after games for peanuts out of convenience. Then again, I did that with a bunch of games in early 2008, but I didn't have many 'rare' games in that lot.

It's because they're backwards compatabile with PS2 games, which is why the 60 gb PS3's go for a good dollar as well.

Of the people contributing to this thread, Would there be interest in my $75 Console Credit for an Amazon GC in return? What would be a "fair" asking price if we were to trade?

The last time I checked, both versions were worth MORE than $25. With a BIN(buy it now) on Ebay a green label copy just went for $96 recently.

There's actually a 'rare game' thread on CAG called 'Is This Game Rare', though I'm not 100% sure the first post is updated with a master list.

Your best bet before selling ANY game is to just check Ebay auctions, preferably completed ones, as that should tell you their value to some certainty.

FF7 with the release of the 9.99 digital version dropped in price on ebay.

The thing is, there will ALWAYS be a market for physical copies of sought after games, since many are like me and prefer to have the real game versus some version that's only downloaded to their computer/console.

Not necessarily. Nocturne had a reprint, so those copies going for like $100 have the soundtrack. The game-only copies go for much less. You can get them for as low as $45. So, considering this promotion and eBay fees, you'd probably make out better trading it in, assuming it's just the game.

But if it's on amazon, it's not like it's rare?

Just because something isn't rare doesn't mean it's easy to find. The MGS4 PS3 bundles are not available anywhere else, really. And new systems will be sought after in the future, because of the BC.

Is Amazon actually selling any used games yet?

A 3rd party is handling this trade-in program, so who knows if they will also sell the games through Amazon.

The fact that a 3rd party is handling this is what keeps me from partaking. A number of CAGs have gotten screwed by them claiming their games came damaged. Amazon really can't do anything about it, either. If you call them, they just read a few company lines off to you.

Maybe that USPS employee needs to brush up on what media really is - directly from the USPS site (http://www.usps.com/send/waystosendmail/senditwithintheus/mediamail.htm):

"Media Mail http://www.usps.com/common/images/spacer.gif http://www.usps.com/common/images/spacer.gif

I'm sure that could be updated to include blu-ray discs as well. So games and DVD's are fine to ship via Media Mail.

That's what I was told too, yet Amazon and many other sites send stuff that shouldn't be sent Media out that way. I wonder what percentage of their packages get nabbed and shipped back due to that.

I never take a chance and send stuff Media, though I've had a few people on CAG DEMAND that I send a game or two that way to save on shipping(it's really pennies most times versus first class, so why take the risk?).

Those deals fell through when I wouldn't budge on not sending Media and I'm willing to bet that if my package did get sent Media and it got inspected, rejected and shipped back, they'd bitch and tell me they're 'not paying for postage again' when it was their insistence on Media that prompted it in the first place.

I don't understand why games don't count as Media Mail either. But another sign that they don't is when selling on Amazon or Ebay, both sites allot you $2.99 per item to ship DVDs or CDs via Media Mail, but with games they give you $3.99 on both sites, because games don't qualify as Media.

when sis you mail it ?

Incredibly, yesterday. I'm in RI and it was being sent to Boston, so it's not a long trip, but even then, it was REAL fast.

I've noticed that the cheap Parcel Post/Media Mail shipments are going pretty quick in general these days. My postal guy said the amount of mail being sent out is decreasing anyway because of the economy, so because of that, the "slow" methods like Media aren't taking nearly as long as they used to. I bought 35 lbs. of old magazines on Ebay from Illinois last week -- both boxes containing them went Media and both got here in 7 days.

I never take a chance and send stuff Media, though I've had a few people on CAG DEMAND that I send a game or two that way to save on shipping(it's really pennies most times versus first class, so why take the risk?).

Indeed. It amazes me how many people want to use media mail when it barely saves you anything when you're just shipping a game or two. It's only really good if you sending in bulk. And in that case, you're probably better off just getting one of those Priority Mail flatrate boxes. Anyway you look at it, it just isn't worth having the USPS open your package and get it kicked back.

They have a QTY field next to every game you select so yes.

If you trade like 10 of one game i'm sure they might call shenanigans but 2 or 3 i think would be fine.

I seriously considered trying this deal with 5 copies of Force Unleashed (PS3) from GameCrazy (trading at $16 each. No chance of getting Wheelman around here, as it is still $29.99, and most Targets are just about out already), towards a PSP Go, but I just can't get myself interested in the Go until I know more about how they will sell the games. If they can only be purchased directly from Sony, and there isn't any sort of all you can eat monthly plan (or possibly even if there is, depending on price), it seems very anti-CAG. Also, even though I barely play my PSP (original) as it is, I have a fairly substantial library of games that would be unplayable on the Go. It bothers me that they are going forward with both SKUs. It also bothered me when Nintendo took out the GBA slot in the DSi and went forward with both DS Lite and DSi skus, but what Sony is doing would be akin to Nintendo taking out the DS slot in the DSi.

I've been searching thread, and still have yet to see an answer to the question:

Do movies (DVD's) qualify for this offer? Or does it just have to be "games".

I'd love to rid my DVD library for this offer!!

LOL sony doing an all you can play monthly plan...... its going to probally be 20 bucks per download... sony would never do a 34.95 a month unlimited plan for games if your thinking like that ... that is why the system will flop

Well, it does say the order needs to take place by 8/31, not that it has to ship by then, so it may be possible that it could be used....however, it likely more a question if amazon will be accepting pre-orders for the PSP GO by the end of Aug or not. Given the PSP GO launches in October, it is possible but Amazon is usually fairly cautious taking orders with new hardware (they rather say they don't have it/limit orders if they can't be certain they can supply it in a timely fashion) at launch

You cannot use this offer for the PSP Go. Here is the link to the offer details:

At the bottom of the page it states: "See All Participating Consoles" The PSP Go is NOT listed as a participating console and the PSP Go is already available for pre-order on Amazon.com. If they wanted to include it on this offer, it would be listed as a participating console.

Certainly the PSP Go is not currently in the list of participating consoles, but there is a chance they may add it. The PSP Go preorder was not up when this offer began, so it is possible they just haven't gotten around to adding it yet. I wouldn't count on them adding it though, it could go either way.

I'm very tempted to do this, however, I don't really need a new console. I own a 360, and have owned a PS3 and a Wii. I'm not sure what console I'd buy if I got the extra $75 in credit. I really wish they'd just give out an extra $75 gift card.

I'm thinking of doing this deal as well, but was wondering what PSP I should get? 2000 or 3000? I've read different things, but if there is not too much of a difference between the two, I'd rather save some money and buy the cheaper one.

By the way, between now and when this promo ends, any chance that the PSPs will be dropping in price now that the GO has been announced? I mean, it feels like a dying portable anyway so I'm just hoping for some sort of price break.

Assuming it works like the DVD trade-ins, there's a pre-printed shipping label to send it to the vendor they're working with, which isn't Amazon, as well as a piece of paperwork to stick in the box, with a barcode on it, so Amazon knows you've sent in what you're supposed to send in.

Wow the Tiger Woods one looks like the best deal, but with the new one coming out next week Gamespot may drop the price, but you gotta think the trade in values on there will drop too. Are the prices locked in at the time you send them? So if I go buy TW 2009 for 360 at Gamestop, send it in, and they say 'oh our values dropped its only worth $5.00 now, sorry" they can do that?

3 - N64 (Cartridge only)
3 - SNES (Cartridge only)
4 - GBC (Cartridge only)
2 - PS3
8 - PS2/GC/360

-Put them all in a box.
-Pad the shit out of them with bubble wrap.
-Make sure they don't move.
-Toss the packing slip in.
-Affix the postage piece to it.
-Seal it up yourself good and tight
-Hand it over the counter to them directly.

The United States post office isn't like the UPS store. They don't do a damn thing for you besides take your package. There are boxes and tape there that you can purchase, but it's cheaper to make your way to Staples, Office Depot, Walmart, etc. and buy your own bubble wrap, boxes, and shipping tape... or just take them from work like I did lol.

You don't have to wait in line remember. Just let them know it's prepaid and they'll just take it. I did 4 trade-ins already. NJ to MA. I'll let you guys know when I'm notified about my trade in.
