"Metal Gear Peace Walker was just announced for the PSP Go! It will take place 10 years after Metal Gears Solid 3 and is a true sequel to the franchise."

Kojima is writing script and producing. 'Nuff said.

And the main question is: Why 4 Big Bauses?

storywise it dosn't make sense at all for now, but gameplay it does: 4 player co-op (expect it to be online).

Bite your tongue and die a silent death. I absolutely loved Metal Gear: Pokemon. It was way better than Metal Gear: Cardcaptors.

Gotta catch them all! :whee:

Yes. Thanks for that link. It was not in the article when I d/l it originally... I was pretty lost. I got the controls... but it's weird having a guy scream at me in Japanese and I have no idea what he is talking about!

I too wish I could change the controls a bit...

anyone know how to inverse the controls? I cant play well with it on normal.
Go to Key Config and look at the first three characters for the face buttons and go back to options and look for the three lines with those three characters. The first inverts Up/Down and the second inverts Left/Right. The third is just sensitivity.

I thought left and right were naturally inverted when I thought I started the demo without touching anything, but I just tried it now and it's the way I like it right off the bat (pushing a direction move the camera in that direction).

So I played the demo again last night after a few months and I am pumped again for this game.

This might sound weird considering this is a handheld game, but do you think that there is a chance for a collector's edition of some sort?

TctclMvPhase

I believe the Japan release is seeing a collectors edition. I cant find the source while I am at work, but I want to say it has a water bottle and some sort of puzzle.

Yes. Except for movies (just UMD, I think), PSPs are region free. I've had mine (US) hooked up to a UK account to play games from there. And then back again (kind of a hassle, but only about 2 minutes to do).

No in an interview Hideo said himself that he wanted to make a metal gear everyone could experience he even went as far as to say he wanted it E rated but they are aiming for a t rating.

Josh5890

I don't think a T rated Metal Gear game will flop. I loved the demo and it didn't seem M-rated.

Thongsy
04-08-2010, 07:07 PM
Hot damn, I'm tempted to pick that up now if it will be the camo psp along with the game and 4 gb card for $200. Now it doesn't make any sense why people would just buy the entertainment pack since they'll be the same price and you get more with the Big Boss bundle.

Halo05
04-08-2010, 09:20 PM
The Big Boss bundle is supposedly exclusive to gamestop. I guess if you only had Amazon credit and wanted a PSP, you couldn't get it.

I think my Wii Monster Hunter preorder is about to be sacrificed for the bundle. I've wanted a second PSP to run Japanese PSN stuff on for ages.

EDIT - Intersella, the 1000 PSP should trade for around $35. I'd probably wait a while and see if a trade in program for portable hardware appears.

EDIT AGAIN - Constant LOL at the PSP Go. Seriously, way to fuck those people over Sony.

Considering picking this up , but I haven't played any MGS games since the first one so would I probably end up being lost story wise , or would it not really matter any?

If it does matter , than I'll probably just wait off to play it once I finally catch up on the rest of the series , whenever that ends up happening.

Just received a cancellation notice from Gamestop on my order for the CE. Customer Service told me it was because I had insufficent funds on the giftcard that was used for the order. >_<

20 minutes on the phone and they think they have the issue resolved. Of course, now the entire order is showing at regular price and not the 25% off I had previously. Additionally, the bonus bandanna isn't showing up on the order either.

EDIT: Yay! They fixed it. Can't wait to get into some more MGS. Ac!d just wasn't very fun...

But they call me this morning saying that they somehow weren't sent my CE copy that I had preordered ages ago (sounds like I was the lone person to even preorder this edition there too). Sigh. If it were on the PS3, it would have been a completely different game (MGS4 all over again).

It was designed specifically for the PSP, actually to be a game his son would play with his friends (ad-hoc gaming is popular among kids in Japan)

It sucks, it seems like they put a lot of effort and detail into co-op stuff, so Japanese schoolkids could enjoy it more. That doesn't help us though, who don't have dozens of PSP owners in our immediate vicinity.

I'm having a very hard time getting into this game. The MGS4 style control doesn't translate well to the PSP. The system is uncomfortable as hell.

I'll probably try one of the other control styles next, but holy crap. I really want to enjoy the game, but it's literally painful to play due to the size of the unit, and it's a crapshoot to control.

I've been reading reviews, and this is the first I've heard of this complaint. Most say the controls translate pretty well considering only one analog stick. Painful to play? You don't happen to have tiny hands like that guy in the Burger King commercials, do you?

If I had Burger King Guy hands, I'd probably be more comfortable. I have big hands. I literally outgrew the original GBA. I keep my fat DS because it's the only portable gaming console big enough for my hands. Maybe the DSi XL is, too, but I haven't tried it yet.

Just played through the demo and getting the feeling this game is going to be very difficult. Not saying that's a bad thing, just wish there was some form of mid-mission saving. Kinda sucks when you die and you know you were right at the end of the mission, only to have to restart it from the beginning. Fortunately the demo missions are relatively short so it wasn't a huge issue there, but have to imagine these become longer as the game progresses.

Controls definitely take some getting used to. If you've played Syphon Filter on PSP then maybe you're very familiar with using the face buttons to aim/control camera. But since I didn't, have to say it felt a bit awkward (particularly trying to aim with enemies approaching). Probably something you get used to the more you play, but it does make the wish the PSP had 2 analog sticks to make this so much easier.

Gameplay is still as solid as ever though so look forward to playing the full game.

That's definitely a relief, considering how much I've been hearing about the difficulty of boss battles in this game.

Despite struggling quite a bit in the demo (the Mountain Facility infiltration mission in particular), the gameplay is typical MGS fun so looking forward to playing the full game.

Well, all right. I switched over to the controls that are supposed to be similar to the Portable Ops control scheme, and I find myself blaming the controls much, much less. The controls aren't perfect, but they're a heck of a lot better than the MGS4 themed controls. And while I'm at it, I'll be getting used to the Portable Ops control scheme for when I play that game.

Yes I am. I just got my PSP on Tuesday in the Big Boss pack. I know I'm playing them backwards, but what else was I going to do?

Pick up a used copy of Portable Ops and play that first? Peace Walker fixed many of the issues with PO and it will be a pain to play that after peace walker.

Some of the things Peace Walker fixed:
1. Fulton instead of dragging enemies halfway across the stage to capture them.
2. You can only carry 4 items in PO and unable to pick up items you would see. In PW you can carry a lot more stuff plus if you ran out of stuff they are automatically transfer to your base.
3. crouch walk instead of crawl.
and a lot more.

PO is a great game thats worth playing too, so finish that before starting peace walker

Yea- the gameplay of PW borrows a lot from PO - but improves it a lot. The army building and using different soldiers to complete tasks, etc.

I think PW does a much better job of actually feeling like you are playing a level though. All of the stages in PO felt like you were just in a square box the whole time.

I'm not going to tell anyone to not play a game- but it might just be easier to read a plot summary of PO and move on.

To all the people complaining about the controls- i wish they would release a patch for this so we could play it on the PS3 with the DS3 like they did with Resistance. I feel like my analog gets stuck in the walk portion a lot, and doesn't allow me to run sometimes.

If you have a PSPgo, a PS3 controller, and a TV out kit, I believe you could play it on your TV with a PS3 controller. This only works with the PSPgo.

Alternatively, you could still play it on your TV with a PSP 2000 or 3000 and a TV out kit. You'd have to use your PSP as the controller, though, and you'd have to get really long extension cables for the audio and video. I'm thinking about doing this.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, I can't play Peace Walker without getting interrupted often, so I can't really take the time to get into it. So I think I'm going to be putting off Peace Walker for a couple months. It won't be the fresh new game anymore by that point, so I might as well just play PoOps first and completely restart Peace Walker when I get to it.

I was trying to play PW while my wife watched girl shows, but embarrassingly, most of the time I get distracted and miss cutscenes. I have one of those PSP to TV adapters. I think i'm going to start using that so I can give it my full attention.

Portable gaming for me has always been about only partially investing myself. My nephew plays Pokemon, and is always asking me very specific questions about how to do things in the story and I'm always at a loss.

Just use some earbuds?

I'm not real far in the story, but this is seriously one of the best games I've played on PSP. Even though the missions are broken up into smaller segments it really is comparable to a console game. The cutscenes are amazing!

At some point, you unlock "recruit" in the main menu of the game, and you can use it to connect to any wifi, I guess, and it'll randomly give you soldiers to recruit. (Although, you have to beat them all with CQC within a time-limit)

Say a vehicle deploys thirty-six soldiers at a rate of four at a time. If you play this level with two people the thirty-six becomes seventy-two , with three players it triples, etc. IT can be very hard to do on your own but is possible. Fulton mines help a ton.

ChibiJosh

Ah, so it does scale. I was fighting a helicopter with a friend yesterday, and through wave after wave, the pilot never stuck his head out. We ended up destroying it. Now it makes sense.

I played 6 or so missions with a friend, and we got ~ 250 camaraderie. They give you a rank C insignia for reaching 250,000 camaraderie. wtf?

Later in the game it's possible to recruit soldiers that are MUCH better than Snake. I've gotten some insanely good soldiers from the wi-fi searches after I leveled my hero points up a bunch.

They normally have better health and Psyche than Snake but not better stats overall. Plus playing as Snake is more fun than playing as some random dude. Talking of which, why is nearly every recruit named after an animal in this?

As for co-ops, it is very fun - but not needed (as some reviews made out it is) to play through the game. The main missions can be fairly easily done solo and I'm yet to find an extra-ops I can't do. Playing with the misses is always a blast though (even if it does mean I have to watch the cut scenes again).

Also sotc1988 I have yet to see any soldier increase in the co-ops (just done the attack helicopter mission on co-ops). The Lav-G before it didn't seem to unload any more then it normally does. Also haven't read anything anywhere else about such a thing happening.

If anyone needs a hand with some of the tougher ex ops vehicle battles, I can get it done for you, provided that you can remain undiscovered for the entire battle. Ex ops 91 can be tough, and it unlocks 49, which many people like to do in order to recruit R&D and Intel people. 75 unlocks 50, which can get you the Stealth Camo if you can S rank it. 98 gives you the Carl Gustav FR launcher. I know that these fights are easy for many players - I'm offering to help out those who are having trouble with these five skull/five red skull missions. I don't want to help out on these missions to just capture the vehicles, as I've done way too much of that to complete the outer ops missions. I lost all eight of my MBTk-70 Customs doing the last OO mission, and made the mistake of saving my game instead of going to the title screen to re-do the battle. Ouch. I'd also like to do the custom versions of the main ops bosses, in order to get the bandana. I can only co-op with adHoc Party; drop me a line if you need help with these missions, or even main ops bosses.

I could deal with the one in MGS1 because it was kind of clever at the time, PSOne controllers are pretty inexpensive, and the outcome was ultimately a different ending, not a game over. There's no fucking way I'm willing to break my PSP to finish one game. Fucking dreadful idea for a portable system. Simply inexcusable. I've failed it twice now and if I don't knock it out within the next few tries, I'm fucking done. This is bullshit. Game just dropped off my GOTY list for sure.
