I used them to purchase a digital download of the Sims (no tax).

I stocked up on cards ready for the Spore add on content, you will also need online cash for all the crap they want you to buy for the Sims universe. Buy now and stock up for later. You can buy anything, which includes console games :)

They have no more cards at the Westminster, CA store, so don't delay. Buy them online for instore pickup.

Update: EA.COM seems to have FREE shipping!!! (I just set up an order for expedited shipping and it refunded 16$ in shipping charges, so 2 day shipping looks like it's free as well)

Well consider shipping as well for physical products, but in essence yes, all ea.com is 1/2 price. I was just checking out their preorders for 360, they have Army of Two 2 up for preorder. Only problem may be buying the cards, they are OOS at my two local BB, I had to buy some from a more distant store for my future stock. I'm guessing this can be price matched to lets say Fry's... It also goes towards my rewards zone points, which can't be a bad thing. BB you have given abundantly to me this week, thanks for the 1c Guides and now this :)

Just go for it, if you find a ton of them and feel a bit ashamed what you could do is have multiple disguises. I have a fake nose and glasses ready so if there are around 12 I'll go for 6 and then put that on and go in, they'll never see it coming.

Actually, EA isn't losing any money here, only Best Buy. The retail chain already bought a certain amount of cards from EA at their standard cost, and are now deciding to sell them at a loss for this week's promotion.

It's the same thing when they put iTunes cards on sale...Best Buy eats the cost difference, not Apple.

Exactly. EA doesn't know or care if you bought them for half price or full. It's Best Buy selling them at half price and (presumably) losing money on it. I won't pretend to know how much Best Buy paid per card and how they can afford to sell them at half off, but I don't think EA is the one losing out here. These things are essentially EA gift cards anyway so even if they did make some deal with Best Buy and are losing money on them, I don't see how they'd be able to just stop honoring them.

Well, got hung up this morning and couldn't get to the stores right at opening, and the 2 stores I checked were sold out. (Sherman Oaks, CA told me they only had 8 and were gone immediately at opening and apparently lots of people had been coming in and asking-- and I was only there at 10:30!.. Westwood told me they were out but didn't say how many they had)

Thankfully I had my in-store pickup orders ready to go. ;) Just wish I had ordered more, I wasn't fully sure how these would work last night and didn't want to go too nuts. Oh well, at least I got some. When I was picking them up, the cashier seemed baffled why they were so popular, when I explained the "everything half off" aspect she was floored. I only get the promo prices (all Wii games $5 off) when I'm logged into my EA account. What I did was I signed up for the newsletter, used the code, and it didn't seem to do anything. Figuring I did something wrong, I signed up for the newsletter again with another address, used that code with my EA account, and it showed up with that price in my cart. I'm assuming the promo prices should have disappeared after I used the code and it probably shouldn't have let me use 2 codes, as I'm trying to add another discount to the prices but it won't let me now.

Great looking out, I had to drive a little ways out of the city, but I found a store with quite a few of them and bought them all.

Here's a little tip for people willing to trek a ways: go to your nearest store and find a nice rep to look it up on the computer for you. I wouldn't have known where to go for the big stash without him telling me exactly how many are available where. The online tool only tells you if they have any (whether 1 or 100). Besides, the one that had a bunch was a little far out and I wouldn't have thought to go out there had the guy not told me how many there were.

If you have an in-store pickup waiting, you might want to get it ASAP-- I went to get my order and they had a major problem that they couldn't get any of the cards to activate for some reason. I waited for nearly an hour and I think they ended up just raiding an employee's stash (because at first they told me the little pile of cash cards were for in-store pickup orders despite not having the printout or being in the bins) to re-sell me a new set of 5 cards and told me to cancel the online order.

Had there not been a small stash, the store was of course totally out of cards to sell me...

(just saw Immortal's post, I'd say the activation system is down except the cards they sold me as replacements worked fine- although I haven't tried to put them in my EA account yet...)

The guy looked up the cards in the RSS system and told me they had a LOT coming, but not anytime soon... which was an odd combination.

They had to type in the long ass number for each card for me, major pain in the ass, I was worried they would miss type the number. Weird that they could not just scan the card as if you were buying it at the counter. I think it's a limitation of their online system.

Yep-- it'll let you go pretty far in the process but you won't be able to check out until you select a store that shows as having some in stock (which at this point seems pretty rare, at least in more urban areas)

remember someone posted only a max of $300 can be in your EA acct at a time, and $200 daily. Just so you know, but if I were you, cash in up to the $300 now, just so there's no problems in the future.

It isn't worth it. Wait the 2 extra days. If you call to switch, it could ruin it for everyone else (i.e. it is possible that they only meant to have regular shipping free, and calling could tip them off that the system is giving expedited for free as well).

You have to consider that the EA servers may be slammed. First week of Sims 3 release + every gaming dealhunter on the internetz trying to register 9999 of these cards.

Though I don't know how retail cards work, I'd imagine they're sold to retailers like most retail products (Best Buy buys $10 cards from EA for $9 a card). Best Buy is choosing to sell the cards for $5 each, a loss leader tactic to get people in the store and spend $2000 on a computer that can actually run Sims 3.

In other words, if these cards follow standard retail rules, EA is losing absolutely nothing and indeed it profits them immensely for Best Buy to sell as many of these cards as possible.

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about timeout-type errors. "Payment Auth Failed" and "Please try again" could possibly be lag. Keep trying and let us know if it goes through.

I'm getting lots of random errors trying to log into my account to check my order status as well, it keeps telling me invalid password even though I know it's right (as it works about 10% of the time). I'm sure EA's getting hammered, I keep wondering if I should just push a few orders through and use what's left on my cards before they change any terms/etc... I'd rather just let it sit there til some prices come down, though.

Did those getting their orders today get a shipment notice, or did things just show up?

Oddly, I didn't get charged sales tax, either, and I'm in CA (ordered physical copies of games and it says I should've been charged according to the website).

Thanks, found it. I see my order, but when I click on 'view invoice' I get an error message. It's a pre-order for Tiger Woods so it wouldn't have shipped yet. I just wanted to make sure it was on my account.

You'll just have to keep trying. Like others have said, the site must be getting pounded. I was having log in issues along with issues checking my order. Just kept trying til it worked.

I just placed another order with no problems. I ordered Skate 2 (PS3) using up the rest of my credit. To get more cards or not to get more cards, that is the question.

The only other game that looks interesting for the PS3 is Saboteur, but that isn't released until Dec.31. I love Fight Night, but that gameplay footage doesn't look so good. UFC may have ruined that for me. And I'm done buying Madden yearly.

Yeah, I'm just thinking more of the rest of the people out there. I don't know if I'd use them anytime soon and I'm not the type to hoard, especially when there's other people out there like you that could use them right away.

I'm hoping that I can find 5 or 6 today at one fo the two best buys that still says they have them. I'd like to get the Sims 3 CE. If I don't geti t now I'll wait ill it drops to 40 something on Amazon so it's not too big of a deal.

If the store I go to by chance has like 100 cards I'll buy 20 just to get a few other EA games I've been waiting for Price Drops on. It would be nice, but really wholly unnecessary. I half-heartedly hope they don't just so I don't keep getting more and more games to play.

just to support the OP about using these. They're not just 'sims cash' they're 'EA cash'. When you click on the code entry on the EA shop, they show a picture of the cards that count as EA cash. Among them, is the featured Sims cards that are shown here.

My best buy was stacked with them, I only bought 4 and saw about 10 more after, will go back tomorrow and clear some more out, they didn't even mark them as on sale.

I'm debating now, I figure Dead Space is bound to drop (it's not at my Target(s)) to $30 and $25 used sometime soon, and it seems like a waste when I could be getting $30 preorders.. but I'm not sure if there are any games I really want to pre-order.. I suppose I could preorder NFL 10 and Fifa 10.

And why would they, the only people getting a short end of the deal are Best Buy, and they put the sale on for a reason.

Edit- Also anyone know if there are separate shipping fees for preorders and in stock games? I want to go for Dead Space and then Madden but I want to calculate how many I'll need.
