Presumably because it doesn't require the PS3 to be turned on to charge the controller. Of course, if you've got any other devices with USB ports that stay powered, it's less of a big deal. (I always charge my DS3 off my FIOS DVR box.)

I picked one up over Black Friday last year. Pretty good charger. It'll do four controllers at the same time, two on the two stand connectors, and there's two USB ports on the side of it. Just make sure you have two USB-to-miniUSB cables to do four at once.

Thanks OP, just ordered one. A shame that those ECA-Amazon codes don't apply to the whole cart.

This charger seems perfect for me since I have exactly two DS3s and two other joysticks that charge exclusively by usb. It'll definitely free my usb ports and some space as well. Thanks again.

I wouldn't say its dead, you just have to wait for shipping. I was gonna get my dad a blu ray player over xmas and it said it wouldn't ship until January and this was early december. Three days later it was at my doorstep (prime).
