Christ, how many times are guys going to post the same quote. Best Buy is not offering a gift card along with the purchase therefore what you quoted is irrelevant. That refers to a deal where both stores are offering a gift card but the one Best Buy is giving away is for a lesser value. That is not the case here.
There is nothing in their policy that says they have to price match the TRU deal. It's great that you guys found managers that were willing to bend the rules however not all stores are willing to do so.
It's amazing how you guys are so willing to quote their policy yet you all ignore this part:
Key word is free offers. You know, like a free gift card.
Christ are YOU retarded? Sorry to post such a large copy and paste text, but obviously you need the context...(psssst...check out the bolded text)
What is considered a local retail competitor?
A retail store located in the same market area as your local Best Buy store.
What is considered "proof" of price?
If you have already purchased the item, the best way to show proof of price is to bring in your original Best Buy receipt, plus the competitor's current ad. We reserve the right to call the competitor's store to verify the lower price and availability of the item.
How do you handle a price match if the Best Buy price includes a promotional offer such as a free gift card or rebate?
The Best Buy net purchase price is calculated by deducting the value of all instant and mail-in discounts such as rebates, free offers and promotional gift cards. Existing rebates and free offers associated with a product purchased at Best Buy will not apply if a price match is executed.
How do you handle a price match if the competitor's price includes a rebate or other promotional offer?
The competitor's net purchase price is calculated by deducting instant discounts taken at the register such as instant rebates. Mail-in rebates and other deferred savings are not deducted from the competitor's purchase price.
How do you handle a price match if an instant gift card is included with a purchase?
The value of an instant gift card with purchase will be considered when calculating a price match. If the combined value of a competitor's product and instant gift card is lower than the combined value of Best Buy's product price and instant gift card, Best Buy will match either the price or the instant gift card value, depending on the offer.
What if the competitor does not have the item in stock or has limited quantities of the product?
Sometimes a retailer will advertise a very low price for a product but have only limited quantities in stock. If the item is out of stock or the competitor has limited quantities of an item, it is not eligible for price matching. Likewise, if Best Buy has a product that is advertised as being limited in quantity it will not be eligible for price matching.
Seriously, do you have any reading comprehension skills?? Whether Best Buy is initially offering a gift card is completely irrelevant. Since you clearly don't understand:
1. The first bolded statement refers to a situation in which best buy is offering some type of freebie and you want to price matchi another store, then you DO NOT get the competitor store's lower price AND the best buy bonus/freebie (whether Best Buy is offering a stuffed toy, GIFT CARD, free calender, etc). You get one or the other.
2. The second bolded statement refers to a discount or instant rebate at the competitor's store. An instant rebate will be deducted from Best Buy's price when you price match. A mail in rebate will NOT be deducted and CANNOT be pricematched. Office Max and Office Depot offer these "instant rebates" quite often.
3. The third bolded statement refers to a gift card being offered at the competitor's store, NOT best buy !!!! If a competitor is offering a gift card, best buy will calculate the customer's total price for the product and gift card at the competitor's store ($60 for ghostbusters and $20 gift card at TRU) and best buy will price match that TOTAL cost by lowering the price of the game and selling you a gift card. Occasionally they will just take the price off of the game.
The Exclusions you posted regarding not matching competitors' free offers refers to freebies at other store that best buy wouldn't carry (a dvd with free stuffed animal or such). They can't match giving you a freebie they don't carry.
I mean good lord man. This isn't rocket science. My 10 year old daughter could read this and understand it clearly. If you still don't understand (which I am sure you don't), call 1-888-237-8289 and have a customer service rep explain the Store Price Guarantee to you. I just did and it was pretty effing clear.

................
Best Buy.along with any other store that price matches.i/e Wal-Mart.does not have to price match a gift card deal. Even if Best Buy carries their own gift cards, it is not necessarily "price matching". Same thing applies to B2G1 offers and % off deals. if you brought in a Toys R Us ad that featured a "B2G1" deal or the current Toys R Us deal, Buy 1 get 20% off one title. Best Buy does not have to abide by it. Gift cards or no different.
The only deals Best Buy "have" to accept are deals listing a price for an item. A gift card is a freebie.no matter if Best Buy carries them themselves.
I've worked at many retail stores..2 of which price matched..Wal-Mart and Meijer, and their policy is the same as Best Buy when it comes to pricematching.
as stated before.if you can get Best Buy to pricematch a Gift card deal..you lucked out. It's not something they "have" to do.

Don't know if this has been asked yet, BUT:
I want to get GB and GH:SH at Toys R Us. I should be able to get 20% off one, and a 20 dollar gift card for each. The question is: Will Toys R Us let me? Has anyone had success with this, since it's basically combining 3 offers?

Ok, lets start here. I suggest you take your own advise and call that number as I just did. I was right, it is corporate's policy not to accept a price match on offers that include free gift cards. She said you can try to talk to the manager and maybe they'll go for it but it is not corporate policy.
How do you handle a price match if an instant gift card is included with a purchase?
The value of an instant gift card with purchase will be considered when calculating a price match. I got back from Toys R Us, on a whim, I asked the clerk if I bought both Guitar Hero Smash Hits and Ghostbusters, would I get the 20% off deal and the 2 gift cards.
She said yes.
It was around $117 with the tax.
Not a bad deal when you add the $40 gift card with it.

Yeah, they could have at least given 3 months. There isn't much coming out in the next month and a half and I already have pretty much everything I want that's out now. Anyway, ended up having to get the PS3 version of GB since the closest TRU was either sold out of or never got the 360 version. The clerk didn't know which one it was. Didn't feel like driving 20+ miles to the next TRU or taking the ad and trying my luck at BB.

Seriously. I am stunned.
If the combined value of a competitor's product and instant gift card is lower than the combined value of Best Buy's product price and instant gift card, Best Buy will match either the price or the instant gift card value, depending on the offer.
Best Buy (BB) is trying to protect themselves from a situation in which BB is offering the game for 49.99 and ToysRUs (TRU) is offering the game for 59.99 with a free $20 gift card. You come in and try to PM TRU's $20 free gift card and get the BB price of 49.99 while doing so. No Go. If the COMBINED value of TRU's product (59.99) and instant gift card ($0)=(total 59.99) is lower than the combined value of BB's product price (49.99) and instant gift card ($20)=(total 69.99). Since the combined value of the competitor's product and instant gift card is lower than the combined value of BB's product price and instant gift card, BB will match either the price or the instant gift card value, depending on the offer.
I can't possibly imagine that this could be any clearer. Do you really think BB is putting a statement on their website for the scenario in which BB and the competitor are BOTH offering gift cards???!?!?!?!? Really??!?!?!? Why not post a specific policy regarding plush stuffed animals? Or free bottles of coke with purchase? You are COMPLETELY misunderstanding the statement.
Think of it this way:
If TRU price is of game is 59.99 and free $20 GC and BB price of game is 39.99 you get nothing. Net cost at both places is 40 bucks.
If TRU price of game is 59.99 and free $20 GC and BB price of game is 49.99 you get 10 bucks off game or $10 GC at BB. Net cost at both places is 40 bucks.
If TRU price of game is 59.99 and free $20 GC and BB price of game is 59.99 you get 20 bucks off game or $20 GC at BB. Net cost at both places is 40 bucks.
Just to show you how random a question to a CSR can be, I just called BB cust. service again and directed the CSR to the website policy page and he concurred with my assessment. As for what anybody tells you in store or even at customer service phone number is irrelevant. Those people aren't trained any better than you or I are currently trained to be working at BB. I guarantee you that the CAG community knows a far greater deal about a given store's current sales or policies than the VAST majority of employees at said store.
I am done arguing this with you because it really doesn't make a difference to me. I have 6 different BBs in the metro area around me, and have NEVER, not once, been refused a PM for a gift card at any of them. Not Once. So either the employees around here are better trained or worse trained than the employees at your stores. Doesn't matter because I am able to get the deal EVERY time. I only post this for others who hopefully don't have as big aholes working at their BBs as you apparently have working at yours.

I think he understands the game has to be the same price at both stores for Best Buy to deduct the $20 or give a $20 giftcard. Its the fact that Best Buy does not "have" to match a competitor ad when it involves a giftcard or price percentage off. So continue to be 'stunned' at 'your' stupidity.

Not to ruin the huge brouhaha about BB policies, but I like someone way back on page one picked up Ratchet and Clank Future: TOD for $15 at Target. It's basically an invisible sale--there's no price tag (not that there often is for most of their games). YMMV however.
Oh, and they still have the original cases, just with a slapped-on red GH logo at the top, which comes off with the plastic wrapping. Now I don't actually look like a cheap ass!

No, that is not the issue at all. I NEVER said they "have" to match the competitor. I said that on the store policies portion of the website, it says that it is their policy that they do. The discussion is about the meaning of what is stated on the website. Evolved seems to think that the written policy is referring to a situation where both stores are offering a GC??!?!!??!? If I am wrong about your interpretation please correct me.
Each store can do as they see fit I suppose. I interpret the best buy website store policy description to mean they do PM deals with gift cards. It seems as if multiple people on CAG as well as store managers I have dealt with interpret it the same way.
I guess it simply boils down to YMMV (although it shouldn't). Sucks for those people that can't get it. Everyone should try though, because it seems as multiple people in this thread as well as the GB consolidated thread are not having much problem getting the PM.

If you are trying to "cut costs wherever" then you don't need video games. Just because you post here on Cheap Ass Gamer doesn't mean that we encourage said tactics either. All it does is makes you look to be a Cheap Asshole Gamer which in the end makes this entire community look bad.
