I have both and suggest buying both, but if you are only buying 1 I'd go with COD4. I like the modern weapons a lot better and think the multiplayer maps are more fun.

I'm sure this is the Game of the Year Ed. I'd go for the clearance if you have Live since the updates to the GotY Ed. are free on Live.

If the Ghostbusters GC is good for the Wii version, that could be a really good deal. Is the Wii version a completely different game compared to the PS3/360 version? I know it was done by a different developer, but I haven't really been following it.

A few stores marked down the wrong one. If they ring it up, they will have to do a manual adjustment on the GOTY edition. It's the regular edition that is supposed to be clearanced.

I have all the systems, but I don't judge a game just on the graphics. The control scheme with the Wiimote might make it more enjoyable in some respects than the others (I'm not stating that it will, just that it could), and if the story/game is different, then it might be worth getting both versions.

the Wii versoin is the only version to have Co-Op,i hope that helps

Thanks, good to know. I knew the Wii version had co-op, I guess I just assumed the others would too. I don't know if I could get my wife to play it though.

Good for all platforms, hope that helps.

Does that mean the PS2 version will be effectively free? Pay $20, get the game and a $20 GC?

Wii/PS2 version has local 2 player co-op for the campaign and that is all for multiplayer.
360/PS3/PC - has online 4 player co-op but these are separate "missions" from the single player campaign.

Nice deal on Ghostbusters. I'm still waiting for reviews before deciding on which system I'll get it for.

Hopefully my Best Buy will pricematch. They did for Killzone 2 and Resident Evil 5. I have a $10 Reward Zone Gamers Club certificate pending. So having $30 total would be pretty nice and help out at the end of August when Batman, Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia are released.

Thanks, OP! Out of curiosity, does anybody know how BB handles price adjusting a previous purchase that involved RZ certificates? Say I bought a game that was $50, used $10 worth of RZ certs, and paid $40 out of pocket. If the game is now down to $40, I can't really price adjust anymore, since the RZ certs are essentially forfeit, right?

stevo1002
06-09-2009, 07:01 PM
I don't think so, they act like RZ certs are coupons, so they don't have to give you cash back. I always try and use them on cheaper stuff, so I don't waste them on something I can price match later.

Bit of a clarification: the "World of Warcraft 3-pack" is actually the World of Warcraft Battlechest, which only includes the original game and the Burning Crusade expansion. Just thought I'd mention that so that noone gets confused about what the item is (at first I thought they came out with a new pack of all 3 games from the description).

If so..hella sweet. I would than later get Infamous or Prototype for $20 after using both giftcards after the 6 hour wait period.

Does anyone know what this "Toys R Us $15 gift with purchase" thats listed on this preorder page is?

http://smashhits.guitarhero.com/preorder/

Does anyone know if the "Free Drum Pedal when you buy Guitar Hero Smash Hits A $19.99 Value" at Best Buy will come with an adapter to connect two kickpedals to the GHWT drums or RB2 drums?

Does anyone think Best Buy will give me the drum pedal for free AND the $20 gift card if I try to price match with the Toys R Us ad (which I don't really want because I think the PDP Official Rock Band Kick Pedal with Double Bass Adapter is better to get especially since I have the RB2 drums, but free is free)?

I was going to wait to buy this (I am a WAY bigger fan of the Rock Band series) but either plan seems like now is the time:
Toys R Us: $60 + tax for GHSH, $20 gift card, and "$15 gift" (and maybe Ghostbusters or finally get GH:Metallica [for the non-Metallica songs] with the 20% off deal)
Best Buy with Toys R Us ad in hand and they let me pricematch and get the BB freebie: $60 + tax for GH:SH, $20 gift card, and drum pedal

well the $15 gift isnt a preorder bonus....only the items listed above. So I highly doubt they'll give you something extra on top of the $20 gc. More than likely this was going to be what Toys R Us was going to offer before the $2o gc was announced.

Don't know if anyone else (like me) is waiting to the 16th for MGS4 and Ratchet and Clank FToD to go "Greatest Hits" on the PS3, but picking them at TRU at their new price points next week would mean getting both games for less than $54. Given that Ratchet alone sells for more than that this week, that's none too shabby! Also, buying them early means you can probably still get copies in their original packaging rather than the red boxes.

I'm maybe in for the "free" PS2 version of Ghostbusters. Of course it's not really free, rather you buy it full price and get a $20 gift card to use later. Plus there is tax so even after gift card it isn't complete free, but still.

Is it safe to assume that you could use the gift card immediately on something else? Problem is there is nothing else I had planned to buy now anyway, so I'd have a $20 gift card and nothing to spend it on, and thus just have paid full price for Ghostbusters until such time as I get something else. this may seem fairly obvious to some but if you like modern weaponry get COD4, if you like ww2 weaponry then go for WaW. (some may disagree with whether or not that is a good enough reason to pick one over the other) they are both really good games, especially the multiplayer. i have both and enjoy them both for different reasons. imho, i feel COD4 is a bit more polished overall though.

like do the ps3 GH:WT instruments work with the ps2 game?

I have a 80 gig PS3 and rather pay $39 for the ps2 version (plus GC + 20% off another game) than pay $59 for better graphics.

6 Hour wait on Toys R Us gift cards. I also bought RE5 and got the gc and they told me 6 hours. Went back 6 hours later and used it on Trivial Pursuit for the 360.

Wow! What a deal on a Wii @ TRU this week (BB had the Wii w/ a $20 gc, a few weeks ago)! I think I will bite.

Any suggestions on what two (2) accessories I should pick-up? And why?

P.S. - The Wii is a graduation gift for the girlfriend. And already have a Wii Fit wrapped up for her. (^_^)

When I picked up Prototype and pre-ordered Ghostbusters at TRU on Thursday the R-Zone Manager told me that he was like 99% sure that they will be doing something for the Batman release.(i.e. bonus gift card, or free exculsive Batman figure/statue)

HOLY CRAP!!! Okay, just hit the Toys R Us in Danvers, MA - they are having a CRAZY sale on stuff. Didn't see this posted anywhere - but some stuff on sale:

Prince of Persia 360 - $19.99 (yes, I know Amazon had it this much)
F.E.A.R. 2 360 - $29.99
PSP games were a plenty - Downstream Panic and N+ were $9.98.
DS games - got the Konami Olympics game for $5
Several clearance games to boot - Kane and Lynch PS3 for $9.98

And my big pickup:
Singstar w/ microphones for PS3 for $9.98 and Volume 2 for another $9.98...they had a couple more (left them rather than hoarding!!!)

I just had a devilishly genius idea that could get you GB on the 360/PS3 basically for $20 or the Wii version for free...

Here's what you do, go you your local TRU and buy 2 copies of the game, one 360/PS3 and one Wii version. If the giftcard thing is limited to 1 per transaction, then simply buy one, get back on line and buy the other. Now you got 2 $20 giftcards...

Next, come back the next day or whenever is conveinient to you (since you can't use giftcards on the same day). Return both copies of the game (unopened of course... you'd have to have been an idiot to open them lol) then go back to the videogames department, buy whichever version you intend to play, and pay either $20 or nothing plus tax!

I'm such a cheap bastard that I'm tempted to do it myself lol!

I want to say since its a promo, they'd give you a hard time regarding the return of the game without the card. The way the promo works for me is it knocks $20 off the title price and charges you for the card, so in order for them to accept the return, they'd just about require the card back with it.

I spose you could try it, but I'd suspect the managers would be privy to such cheapassedness and would cock-block you at every corner in an effort to save a buck or two.(edit: plus what they said above!)

I'm just be thankful that you get lucky enough to keep recycling your $20 GC, taking $20 off all these summer hits each week, where you'd otherwise be out $60 elsewhere.

I don't like the fact that they shortened the term on the gift card itself. The last time I did GC's from TRU they were normal ordinary cards. These were some funky special cards that expire July 31st. Sort of a cop-out if you didn't have much interest in maybe three games per year. Luckily they're doing it during a time where the Summer hits just keep on rolling.

I've considered purchasing actual gift cards with the promo cards to cheat that little system. Unsure on whether they'd allow it or not.

I picked up Fable II a few weeks ago for $30 on bestbuy.com. Definitely worth the purchase. Sunk about 30 hours into it so far and having fun.

You really cannot go wrong with CoD4 or CoD:WaW. I was a newbie to the series recently as well, actually played WaW before 4. I enjoyed the single player campaign more on 4; multiplayer more on WaW. If you are interested in picking up Modern Warefare 2 this fall at all, I would definately get 4, though.

By the way, having Prototype in the flier pisses me off. I preordered it through BestBuy (would usually get it somewhere else, but I had Rewardzone points to cover it).

I received an e-mail on the release date telling me it was backordered. Phone call resulted in the usual "working as fast as we can". It still shows on backorder today and here they are advertising that they have it to the world.

Ok, the ad is up. Two clarifications:

Ghostbusters/Smash Hits $20 GC is only for 360/PS3/Wii versions.

For the 2 bonus accessories with the Wii, it states "$25 value", which makes me believe there are specific accessories they give you, not your choice. I knew it wouldn't be any accessory, but thought you might have had some say in it - doesn't look that way.

Ad doesn't say "limit one per person" or "one per transaction" or anything like that, from what I could see. If you can get $40 in GCs and 20% off one of the two games, this is epic...

Do you get taxed on the $19.99 for the Gift Card? If not, that's saving almost $2.00 more.

Target clearanced it a long time ago, you won't find it there. Try Sears - they clearanced it much more recently, but if you find it, I believe it should still be $14.97 (if they have it), unless it dropped to $9.97 with the June drops.

This may sound stupid, but I spend a lot more time playing the little mini games like chopping wood and working at the blacksmith, rather than play the main game. Not saying its a problem or anything.

A standard gift card does not have an expiration date, I believe. These deals at TRU have specialized gift cards that do have expiration dates (although sometimes the employees don't realize and will give you a standard one instead). If you need to extend the useful life of a limited GC, simply buy something with it, and return it to get the credit put on a normal GC. I'm afraid this doesn't help your situation, however. Some states (CA is the only one I know) have special laws with regards to GCs that may enable the use of an expired GC, but I am hazy on that, as I don't live in CA -- I know that in CA, if you have a gift card with less than $10 on it, you can redeem it for cash, but I'm not sure what the other rules are.

Edit: Also, with regard to the 6 hour wait to activate a GC, I am pretty sure that is a lie. The computer will most likely allow immediate use, leaving it up to the cashier whether or not you have to wait.

Amazon also has the 120GB hard drive for $120 and the 60GB hard drive kit for $90. You might as well buy online and save on sales tax.

Also the Arcade only comes with composite AV cables so you are going to need to get either component or HDMI cables if you want to play your games in HD.

Nice on the Ghostbusters GC deal. I still have my $20 GC from the Resident Evil 5 deal and forgot to use it. Think I can use it for Ghostbusters and still get the gift card? 8-)

Be careful that your GC did not expire.

I was planning on doing the same thing with Prototype last week but the balance on the card was $0.

I too got it from RE5 and just threw it in the back of my wallet somewhere without a second though, planning to use it the next time a similar deal came out. Apparently it had printed on the bottom that there was an expiration date, which when I bought the game no one told me of, and so I basically lost my $20.

Best Buy normally will not let you PM a gift card. That said, there are always stores and CSRs who will let you but it is EXTREMELY YMMV and don't expect it to work.

Also, there are occasional exceptions that come down from corporate, the biggest was the Super Mario Galaxy $25 GC-- Best Buy allowed that PM as long as you had the TrU ad... I am REALLY hoping they do something similar for Ghostbusters, since I have absolutely no need for a $20 GC to TRU.

Print their price matching policy, it specificaly states it will Price match items with GC by either taking X (What ever the competitor GC is worth) amount off from the item or give you a Best buy giftcard worth the same amount as the competators.

How do you handle a price match if the Best Buy price includes a promotional offer such as a free gift card or rebate?
The Best Buy net purchase price is calculated by deducting the value of all instant and mail-in discounts such as rebates, free offers and promotional gift cards. Existing rebates and free offers associated with a product purchased at Best Buy will not apply if a price match is executed.

The Best Buy net purchase price is calculated by deducting the value of all instant and mail-in discounts such as rebates, free offers and promotional gift cards. Existing rebates and free offers associated with a product purchased at Best Buy will not apply if a price match is executed.

Key words-- "If the *BEST BUY* price includes a promotional offer", not "if the COMPETITOR price includes".. they're saying if TrU had Ghostbusters for $39.99 and BB was selling it for $59.99 with a $20 GC, they wouldn't PM.

The key paragraph is "How do you handle a price match if the competitor's price includes a rebate or other promotional offer?
The competitor's net purchase price is calculated by deducting instant discounts taken at the register such as instant rebates. Mail-in rebates and other deferred savings are not deducted from the competitor's purchase price."

A gift card is a deferred savings and as such they won't PM it normally. The language on the PM policy used to be a lot more vague, they've tightened it up lately.

Edit 3-- WOAH-- this looks new..?? And I think you'd have one hell of an argument for the PM as $59.99 + $20 GC is a better value than $59.99 + no GC. I may have to try it even though I know my local BB's manager is hostile, refuses to read anything, and thinks she knows everything... I'll have to bring it in highlighted and bolded and in big print.
How do you handle a price match if an instant gift card is included with a purchase?
The value of an instant gift card with purchase will be considered when calculating a price match. If the combined value of a competitor's product and instant gift card is lower than the combined value of Best Buy's product price and instant gift card, Best Buy will match either the price or the instant gift card value, depending on the offer.

Does anyone know if I would somehow be able to buy Ghostbusters at TRU, get the gift card, then return the game at a different location and keep the gift card to buy the game at 40 bucks instead of 60?

This = FRAUD my friend.

And no, since they charge you 40 for the game and 20 for the gift card, so if you were to return the game and keep the gift card they will give you 40 back since you paid a separate 20 on the gift card alone.

toysrus has an unadvertised deal on 360 games listed for $20 off

Fear 2 Project Origins
Resident Evil 5
Legends of Wrestlemania
Skate 2
Street Fighter 4
Call of Duty 5 World at War

and I think it ends on 7/5

Any idea if this is YMMV? $40 each, combined with buy 1 get 1 20% off could be decent. I'll probably still pass, though.

Why can't people just be thankful that a store is offering you a FREE $20 gift card instead of scheming on how to scam the store out of an additional 20 bucks? Good Lord....Man up.

Regrading Best Buy PM policy regarding gift cards, I interepret the website to mean they will take $20 off the price of the game at best buy, but you will NOT get any other freebie best buy may be offering.

This is exactly what happened when I pricematched TRUs Prototype deal last week. They dropped $20 off the price and I paid $39.99 + tax.

The Best Buy in Wilmington, DE will not price match any gift card offer so I guess it varies from store to store.

The way they advertise it is pay full price for the game ($60), get a free $20 gift card. In order to put value on the gift card (and, coincidentally, this also helps prevent people from "working the system"), however, they ring it up as $40 for the game and $20 for the gift card. Nowhere is it advertised as pay $40 for the game and get a $20 gift card. You don't "lose out on 20 bucks", you pay the amount they advertised you would pay, and you get the items they advertised you would get.

You don't get taxed when you purchase GCs, but you get taxed when you spend them, so no real savings there.
What?!?

So if I buy a game 29.99....they add the tax before deducting $20 gc? Usually at all stores they deduct 20 from 29.99 and tax 9.99.

That's fine and all, but another one of their policies clearly contradict this one:

How do you handle a price match if the Best Buy price includes a promotional offer such as a free gift card or rebate?
The Best Buy net purchase price is calculated by deducting the value of all instant and mail-in discounts such as rebates, free offers and promotional gift cards. Existing rebates and free offers associated with a product purchased at Best Buy will not apply if a price match is executed.

I think if you speak with a manager you're more than likely to get this honored. But yeah, it's pretty stupid how this has to be YMMV.

O_o Where are you reading this...

It's saying "If...If...Not On All Accounts or It's Non-Negotiable".

Clearly the PM is for a $20 GC. Based on the policy, the BB purchase will take this into calculation, so instead of giving you a $20 GC it will be DEDUCTED FROM THE VALUE of said "promotional gift cards".

It's a lot of fence-sitting mumbo-jumbo, but in the end, a BB unwilling to do this, in an economy like the one we have at the moment, is f***ing stupid.

Either way, I'm going to try my luck.

For the force unleashed they dropped the game to 40 from 60 to match the TRU gift card offer. For RE5, they dropped the price from 60 to 40 THEN sold me a 20 dollar gift card to even things out. I asked them to keep the gift card but just drop the price of the game and they wouldn't let me do it.

Gift cards don't count towards your reward zone purchases so I avoid them and ask for store credit instead.

That says if Best Buy includes a promotional offer. This would be like if you wanted to price match a $30 price for a game at Target or something and Best Buy sold it for $60 with a $20 GC. They would then PM down to $30 with no gift card.

Went to BB to PM the TRU gift card for GH. Guy right next to me was doing the same for Ghostbusters. After much debating on the headset they said their manager just told them to give the guy a giftcard (BB employee didn't read it right so the guy got a $25 gift cad).

Then they got to me and tried to do it again - 15 minutes later they decided to just take $20 off the price of GH. All the while constantly saying they aren't supposed to PM gift cards. I tried to explain it's all over their website but they still said they're not supposed to.

In the end I got GH for $40 (used the $5 coupon on Ghostbusters BD making it $16) and walked out with both for $56. Pretty much bought a game full price and got a movie for free. I can live with that

I was fortunate to get a PM to TRU last week, and they didn't have any of the t-shirt bundles at the time. The barcodes are different, so I can't do a straight swap. I am not sure where the confusion stems from. From Best Buy's website under the STORE POLICIES section is this:

How do you handle a price match if an instant gift card is included with a purchase?
The value of an instant gift card with purchase will be considered when calculating a price match. If the combined value of a competitor's product and instant gift card is lower than the combined value of Best Buy's product price and instant gift card, Best Buy will match either the price or the instant gift card value, depending on the offer.

This gives BB the opportunity to choose whether to drop the game by 20 bucks and sell you a $20 gift card OR simply take $20 off the game. The other policy Zodiac posted is regarding if Best Buy has a promotion or freebie offer. In that case you will get EITHER the PM from the other store OR the Best Buy offer, but not both. Picked up Ghostbusters Wii for 19.99 and got a $20 gift card this morning at Best Buy for $39.99 + tax.

If you have an internet enabled phone the easiest thing to do is bring up this site while you are in the store:

Sorry you are mad. I realize times are tough, but that doesn't give you or anyone else the right to try and scam the store. If you can't afford the item without committing a fraudulent act then you are just going to have to wait til the item is at a price you can afford. The reason these companies have started ringing the items up the way they do is because they got tired of getting ripped off. The next step will be to do away with free GC offers completely if people keep trying to scam the system.

Christ, how many times are guys going to post the same quote. Best Buy is not offering a gift card along with the purchase therefore what you quoted is irrelevant. That refers to a deal where both stores are offering a gift card but the one Best Buy is giving away is for a lesser value. That is not the case here.

There is nothing in their policy that says they have to price match the TRU deal. It's great that you guys found managers that were willing to bend the rules however not all stores are willing to do so.

It's amazing how you guys are so willing to quote their policy yet you all ignore this part:
