View Full Version : Amazon takes 5 days to ship an item now?

Really? Since when did Amazon become a piece of shit? I love using their website to buy things and have been using it for a long time, but this is ridiculous.
I ordered Knights In Nightmare from them on June 6th and it still hasn't shipped yet. The estimated ship date is June 11th to top it all off.
Doesn't Amazon say that the handling time will be 2-3 days on their checkout page? Usually, Amazon is really quick and ships my items within 2 days, but lately they have been really crappy in terms of shipping.

I know what you mean... I pre-ordered UFC for Xbox and it shipped 3 days after the game originally came out.
I remember before when I pre-ordered something, it shipped out the day before the game was out and was at my door on release day. (and yes it was FSSS)

they are taking forever to just ship stuff now.

pre-orders are different. if it isnt a pre-order it takes them quite a while to 'process' the order

LOL, my friend preordered a Gamecube game that had been canceled for a long time prior, I told him when he told me he bought it. It took amazon 5 years to alert him to the fact and give him his money back. They even kept telling him the whole time that the game was still comming.
Are you using FSSS or Prime?

FSS takes like two days to ship out...

Sounds like your friend chose the not-well-known third option:
Free Stupid Sucka' Shipping
aka: Slidecage Express.

yeah amazon seems to slow down every few orders... sometimes fast sometimes not but FSS is slowing down.
Prime is great, maybe there are too many Prime orders and it's bottling up FSS?

I must have selected that option with my recent Amazon order.
For some reason, it got stuck in the pending stage for 2 fucking weeks.
I got pissed and canceled the order.

I've never had that problem, then again I have prime. Sometimes when I order and choose the free 2-day shipping, I get it the next day. :)

Amazon's free shipping, even when they take awhile to get the stuff out, is still better than most other places. I have had to wait weeks for orders from Buy and DDD in the past.

Are you complaining about the FREE shipping options OP?

No, I'm not complaining about the FREE options. I'm complaining about how much they've slowed down in the past couple of months. I don't mind if an order takes 2 weeks to get to me, as long as it gets shipped in a reasonable amount of time. 5 days for an online merchant, such as Amazon, to ship something is not acceptable.
It was a good try, mtx.

How is 5 days to get something to you unreasonable? If you are that concerned over something getting to you so fast, either pay for the faster shipping or go buy it in the store.
I buy from amazon near weekly, along with newegg on a weekly basis. Depending on the day I put in the order, determines how long it takes them to get the product to me, despite what the shipping estimate says. If I place an order anytime on Monday with newegg, and I pick the "free" shipping, it can take as long as the next monday to get to me. Do I complain? No. The same with amazon.
If you're complaining about the time that it takes for them to PROCESS an order, then that's one thing. It sounds to me like that's your gripe here, not the actual shipping time itself. Amazon is one of the largest retailers on the Internet and it does take time for things to process through. I personally see absolutely no problem with them at all.

Then it has nothing to do with shipping, which is what the topic states.
Even in that case, 5 days is hardly unreasonable, especially when there is a weekend involved. The OP ordered on a Saturday. He's complaining about it taking 5 days to ship something, when two of those days were weekend days. That's absurd. I don't know of an online retailer that processes orders that fast on the weekend unless you pay extra for it, such as Newegg.

unless im reading incorrectly, his topic and his argument do reflect the same things...
amazon takes 5 days to ship an item....
amazon needs to ship out an item within 5 days....
most orders for me even on weekends get shipped out about 2-4 days later, but thats just my own personal experience. but amazon ships out pretty darn fast imo.
Anytime I order with free shipping from Amazon it takes less than a week to get to me. Not a bad deal for the cost of nothing.

I think it's less to do with Amazon as a whole and more to do with the particular Amazon distribution center that ships to you DarkRider. I'd call CS and politely tell them you're dissatisfied. Perhaps they can change the DC from which the item is shipping? I have 3 DC that service me and they are all different. The Del. DC ships in a timely manner and packages things well. The near-DC VA DC ships quickly but packs things horribly. The TN DC is slow and ships things half-sealed and with little to no packing material. Occasionally I get stuff from NJ and they operate well, just like the Del. DC.
Keep in mind I do have a Prime account. If you shop at Amazon on a regular basis, Prime is really a great value, esp. now that the ECA discount is in effect.

Best explanation I can tell you is you ordered on Saturday, so that doesn't count. Sunday doesn't count. Then I assume you ordered using FSSS which takes a few extra days anyway, so bam, June 11th.

It's the argument itself here. Amazon gives you a shipping date range before you place your order. The OP agreed to that and is somehow surprised that it took that long? Amazon is hardly a "piece of shit" company that he's referring to. They are actually one of the best places to buy from on the net. I agree completely that Amazon ships not only within the shipping estimates provided, but also pretty damn fast considering all things given.

If I choose a free shipping option, then I'm OK waiting four weeks to get it.
I chose to be cheap, so I have to face the consequences.
I don't want Prime because I'm never in a hurry to get my items. Even if I needed an item quickly (maybe once a year), then I'm willing to spend a few $$$ to get it quicker.

Yeah, I've noticed FSSS is taking longer to ship out than usual. I don't need the item right away, but I was still surprised it took so long to get shipped.

So, pay for shipping. Before I started using prime I would just pay the 3.99 or whatever and they would ship the item the same day I ordered it and usually got it within 2-3 days. Sometimes I got it the next day when they shipped from California.
Prime is so worth it though, 2 day shipping yes please. Plus, overnight for when I want to get my item before the weekend.
lolwut?

Yeah, if you choose FSSS then you should be willing to wait at least a week to get your item.
Otherwise, pay the $3.xx and get the upgraded shipping

I've sometimes paid for an item and used the free shipping option on one day, and actually received it in the mail the very next day. I must be near one of the shipping centers.

I ordered the RB portable drums and it took them months to send it... They are slow with my shipments, but with free shipping I don't complain as much

Just get in with other peeps on prime and you will never go back to the free shipping. I got in with other people and I got prime for about $18. I get stuff in no more than 2 days from the order, unless its a preorder or I order on Friday. Then it arrives Monday.

You make UPS and FedEx seem fast. Which they aren't.
Every single time I've used either of those, it has always taken a good 10 days or more to receive my item. 5 days? My, you're one hell of a spoiled person.

FSSS is slower than it used to be, but I fail to see why people are bitching about it. It is FREE SHIPPING after all and they do say it will add 3-5 days onto your processing.
If I could afford it, I would go with Prime. That month trial sold me on the service.

The only time I have ever had slow shipping was when Amazon would ship via USPS, whenever I see the USPS link on my e-mail I cringe.

Amazon's 'free shipping' option has saved me a bunch.
After a couple of orders, I've saved enough that I could
buy a game with the money saved.
I don't mind waiting, as long as it gets to me in one
piece, and the items come as they are described.
I've had a couple of goof ups, and damaged shipping
boxes, loose discs, but nothing really bad, and nothing lost
in the mail.

Really, if you're using FSSS they even warn you that it may take up to a week to process the order. If you're going to be cheap, stop whining.

I've really been disappointed by how long it takes Amazon to ship items with FSSS. For the past year or so it usually takes me at least a week for my package to ship, it used to take only a day or two. I now find myself only ordering from Amazon when they have good deals, for games I'm ordering from Newegg a lot more often since they usually ship out the next day and have free or cheap UPS 3 day shipping.

One thing that I love about buying from Amazon is
that they don't screw Alaskan customers on shipping.
Not everyone else does, but many do. "You live in Alaska?
Well then, the only way to ship to you is to use the 2-day
FedEx option." That pretty much kills a bunch of deals for
me.
Yes, it does take a week or two, but it's free. I can use the
money saved to buy more games, or movies.

Sorry for bringing up an old post. But i cant help but wonder, does it really take that long for Amazon to ship an item with FSSS? On some of the post above stated that it took 4 weeks or even months to get their item with FSSS. I placed an order on amazon with the FSSS shipping option about two days ago. Would it be a good idea if I change the shipping option to standard shipping? Would it speed things a little? I'm not in a hurry to get the item, but i did not know it would take that long to ship an item.
What annoyed me the most about the 'taking 5 days to actually ship' thing was that, on top of the time, it was set as "shipping soon", so I wasn't able to cancel the order for 5 days without contacting them. To me, "shipping soon" means, uh, shipping soon.
I think the only reason that many of us are complaining is that we *don't* use Amazon that often, and it never used to have this turnaround delay on getting items out. Sure, the shipping itself was usually lengthy, but it left the facility within a day (which was nice, because if it shipped from anywhere in the east, I'd generally get it within 3 days, even with FSSS).

1. I use UPS to ship out tons of items at work everyday, customers usualy receive the item by day 3 if not earlier.
2. I find it ridiculous that a company that requires sellers to ship within 2 business days will let the mother company wait longer!!

1. Amazon uses USPS for its free shipping, not UPS.
2. The issue is the complaints over the slowness of free shipping. If I paid for shipping on an in-stock item and Amazon made me wait five days, I would be justifiably pissed. If I paid nothing for shipping and have to wait five days, I would consider that my payment for the shipping.

Not all the time. My order from Amazon using free shipping was split into two packages. One was shipped via UPS, the other was shipped via USPS.
