Yes only applied on released items. I put in 2 orders when I saw it go active and it worked fine for in stock items (I bought a total of 6 items between the 2 orders). All BD releases with 1 dvd set. I also tried the code on preorder items like Battlestar Galactica complete BD set and Burn Notice Season 2 BD set to see if it'll work on preorders far and close to release date and both was a no go. In the past, I have never had the code apply the discount to preorder items fyi and I've been using this sale for the past 4-5 years.

EDITED: Yes I meant to point out like others said, only released items that's either in stock or out of stock. Code never worked on preorders.

Looking at your list, I'd recommend the following:

Ai Yori Aoshi
Tenchi Muyo! (Also Tenchi Universe and especially GXP)
Dual! Parallel Adventure
DearS
Onegai Teacher
Onegai Twins
Vandread
Kaze no Stigma
Kyo Kara Maoh
Fate/Stay Night
Busou Renkin
Shuffle!

I could recommend Familiar of Zero. Kanon wasn't too bad. Can't comment on the others you are considering.

How the balls did you select all of that terrible garbage from his list of mostly-decent stuff?! I mean, seriously, *at best* you listed a couple average shows, and a whole bunch of harem SHIT!

Here's some decent shoujo for the poor guy:

Kodocha
Emma: A Victorian Romance
Jubei-chan
Paradise Kiss

Revolutionary Girl Utena (if you can ever find it)
Cardcaptor Sakura (ditto on this)

He'd also probably enjoy these:

Cowboy Bebop
Wolf's Rain
Samurai Champloo
Planetes
Great Teacher Onizuka
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex/SAC 2nd GIG
Fullmetal Alchemist

Actually, they didn't work as recently as fall, either.

Actually, if you go through Buy.com (who uses DeepDiscount as a distributor), pre-orders will work. How it's worked for me in the past was that the discounted 20-25% off price was already factored into the Buy.com price. It might not be like that anymore, but it's at least something to consider.

I've been ordering from the sale for the last 4-5 years and I've never seen preorders work. Just on dvdplanet when they run the sale concurrently. If there's a secret to get this to work I'd like to know about it (going to try the buy.com thing suggested earlier).

I noticed the buy.com thing before but the one time I was tempted to try it, the DD sale period would've still been around by the time that item was released. That, plus the fact that DD has a constant Live cashback percentage rather than a range (so I know how much cashback I'd get), I decided to stick it out and wait for DD. Otherwise, I never got preorders to work for the past few years that I've participated in the sale.

Yeah, I've pulled it off once. It was last spring when Buy.com was still doing the Google Checkout $10 off deal (on the last day of it, actually). I pre-ordered the "John Mayer: Where the Light Is" blu-ray at DD's 25% off price, and got the $10 off GC discount. Ended up costing me like $5, haha. That was awesome :)

Hi Tama,

Yes, you are absolutely correct! No secret method, lol. I remember now-I usually order $1000+ from each sale, and I checked my order history, when I read your post, as I've been ordering from them for years, as well. For instance, Chuck Season 1 and Band of Bros were each released on 11/11/2008 and I, in fact, placed the order on 11/11 to take advantage of the discount. I remember many BD buyers in my other group waiting for each release date for batches of Blus, or other items, to place new orders, since the sale runs 3 weeks or so.

I think I was thinking of WB's coupon codes and them working on pre-orders. I also remember DD excluding a certain Anime publisher, that a lot of people at CAG were talking about (I am not knowledgeable about the Anime genre, so I can't remember), which led me to my temp insanity of thingking that the code wouldn't work on some studio pre-orders. Sorry guys!:)

Pre-orders work now? I couple years ago they didn't.

I tried a pre-order just yesterday and it didn't work.

I've got my cart ready to go for whenever the sale officially starts. Looks like I'll be spending right around $80 (more depending on when the sale starts/ends).

I haven't got in on one of the sales yet. For anyone that has, do they take 25% off books, or is it just movies?

Kerig

do they take 25% off books, or is it just movies?

Just DVDs & BDs (Blu-rays), both in-stock and out-of-stock. Be sure to try it, though, you never know from year to year how they'll shake things up (it used to always be 20% off, lately it's been 25% off).

I ordered Co&Ca Neverender for $13.33 the other day, since it's technically categorized as a CD (even though it's a 2-DVD set). I doubt that will be included in the sale, and I'm not waiting another month to possibly save $3.

I believe it was 4% the other day when DD tested the 25% code.

I haven't order from DD in years but may take a look this year and place a small order. The $3-$5 sales on DVDs at BB, CC, and Walmart is the main reason why I don't order too much from DD during their sale.

digitalbabe
07-07-2009, 09:05 PM
I find it a waste of time to check if prices fluctuate between now and the sale. Most retailers fluctuate their prices, so if I check today, they may go back down tomorrow. With all of the items I've purchased from DD, especially sets, their prices still are cheaper than Amazon, the day of the sale with the 25% off. Add the cash back from bing.com and it's an even better deal.

Best thing to do is to just compare prices when the sale starts. I usually just see if the DD prices are that much cheaper @ amazon and dvdplanet, since those are more or less the cheapest places for me to use when these DD sales occur.

Yeah, they do jack up some prices, which is really no different than other stores do prior to "big sales."

Though usually the biggest crybabies are those who complain that an item that was on sale beforehand still isn't on sale for the big sale.

The prices do go up and down periodically, not just before, during, whatever the sale. And really, Amazon does this too depending on their stock/distributors. The only thing we can do is wait until the sale actually starts and see if there's a real deal to be had. If not, don't buy...

So I'm waiting for the sale to complete a couple series that weren't done when Best Buy had their sale (Gurren Lagann, Code Geass, maybe Lucky Star), and I remembered that I to this day haven't gotten the 3rd volume of Midori Days (aka Midori No Hibi), and I couldn't be more shocked that the "handheld collection" (thinpak) is on there for $17 right now. That's a suspiciously excellent price if you compare it elsewhere.

My compulsiveness is still getting the better of me though and making me spend $2 more for the normal volume 3 elsewhere to complete my box set.

I'm not a fan of Thinpaks. In fact, if a series were available as separate volumes and Thinpak at the same time, I pay more for the separate volumes. That's what I did during the 50% off sale that BB had for Beck.

Ehhh DD doesn't really raise prices for sale. It's prices fluctuate based on supplier pricing, demand, and other factors. They are always being raised and lowered. Just use www.dvdpricesearch.com (http://www.dvdpricesearch.com) to compare prices before buying and your set.

I mean Dee Discount isn't going to have the lowest price for every title...

Once your collection becomes large enough, space seriously starts to become an issue. The original Tenchi Universe 8 disc box set takes up more than four+ series thinpacks would, for example.

That's true but I tend to still want the larger sets over thinpacks. I've got somewhere around 600 dvd's and have no room for tv shows and anime, but I still enjoy getting the big boxes with lots of cool extras.

The two things I ordered so far are cheaper than amazon by about $6 total. The only thing I was really interested in that got shafted is True Blood, which was raised up earlier in week. I'm guessing their supplier did not want to participate in the sale. Even with 25% off on that title, Amazon is still cheaper.

I've been waiting for these codes to work again. I normally only shop at DD when they have promo codes, as 1) I have to pay sales tax because they're based in IL and 2) their shipping is tremendously slow despite the fact that I literally live about 20 minutes from their warehouse.

Picked up Seasons 3-5 of Case Closed and the movie double feature pack for just under $80, which even with sales tax, undercut Amazon by about $18.

The console discount is not necessarily a "glitch" per se. The consoles are listed as "Media Storage" which, in the past, has always been included in these 20-25% sales.

It may be that the consoles are supposed to be listed under "Games", instead of "Media Storage", though.

Books, CDs, and Games have traditionally not been included in these sales. They typically fall under a different sale they call "Mega Sale", that usually occur at the same time.

This deal is definitely worth it if you're an MST3K fan with an incomplete collection, like yours truly. Those box sets *never* go on sale, and at DD all of them are in or around the low $30s after 25% off.

Personally, I couldn't resist ordering vols. 5, 6 and 10.2 for a grand total of $93.08 after discount... Considering how that's almost 90 bucks short of retail and 60 bucks short of both Amazon.com and Best Buy (where all three sets are $50 each), I'd say that's a pretty good deal.

That being said all I ordered was GI Joe 1.1 for 14.31, good enough for me. Nothing else screams "must-buy deal" for me although a lot of the prices on things are pretty good, nothing really outrageously cheap though. Should be another in time for Christmas season right?

Sorry about that! I've been waiting since the last sale to pick up 3 so I just had to lol

As of right now there probably isn't going to be any OOPs. 9 and 10 (original) went OOP but it's been so long that if any of the older volumes were to go OOP it would have happened by now.

And it seems Shout! as their act together when it comes to acquiring licenses (read a great interview with someone from Shout at mst3kinfo.com a while back). So if any of the sets have a chance I would say it's the new ones because...well they're new lol But I don't think it will happen.

Not sure... I'm kind of assuming that the Rhino ones will eventually be OOP, just because Shout Factory took over releasing duties... But I read somewhere that MST3K does extremely well on DVD, since the show tends to attract the "obsessive, die-hard collector" type, so the continuation of good sales may perpetuate the continued manufacturing of older sets for quite some time.

That said, I went ahead and grabbed 3 more sets - 2, 11 and 12 - this morning for another $80. I've been buying every Shout Factory set since the first, but before this sale I only had vol. 8 from the Rhino releases (HOBGOBLINS!), a bunch of old VHSs, and a hell of a lot of CD-Rs burned from the DAP. That's no longer the case, obviously.

I use the older codes first to be safe since you can't re-use the same code and in case they turn off codes, they'll do the old ones that aren't supposed to be public...

That said my first order was way bigger than I meant it to be and in terms of money spent I need to stop. ;) I agree they aren't GREAT prices but most of the stuff I bought are things I've REALLY wanted and they finally dropped into "Ok, I'll bite" level.

Detailed review of the season's content
http://tv.ign.com/articles/883/883805p1.html

i *hate* the animation style in this. waaaaay too kiddie. i dunno, i guess im a fan of older, [mostly] hand drawn cartoons. i wouldve jumped on this with the ferocity of a tiger if this was for the 90s Amazing Spiderman show... or the x-men show.

I'm considering the Godfather Blu-Ray collection. It comes to $37.42. Amazon has it for $49.99 new.

just got this. amazing deal, 12$ a movie on bluray is wonderful for any good movie. for godfather is just epic!

Lost Seasons 1-4 on blu-ray are a decent deal. 25% off Amazon prices.

mmm doesnt amazon have a save 40$ if you buy all 4 seasons (or something like that) sale? i may have to look into this.

i bought Mad Men Season 2 (BR)
and Godfather: Coppola restoration (BR)

all for 60$. what a steal. Mad Men is backordered but since its new im sure they will get new shipment in soon. btw, both of those are totally worth getting and before discount price is same as amazon's

I agree that Spectacular Spider-Man's art style is crappy, but the storylines (which carry over from episode to episode, unlike even the best animated comic shows like Batman TAS) and characters themselves are spot on. The 90s show was good too though.

Thanks for the tip...I still need to get Season 1. Which by the way...do you know if 'Transform & Roll Out' is included in Season 1, or is it only available as separate DVD?

Only available as separate. Walmart.com has the twin pack of these, though, but not sure of the prices.

This sale came around just in time for a lot of the high profile releases, like Watchmen and BSG Complete so despite these sales being better years ago, they will definitely help keep under budgets so I can't complain about DD one bit.

2nd order this morning:
This time from DVDPlanet (25OFFSALE, unlimited uses), they were actually cheaper for these than DD:

X-Men Marvel Comic Collection 1 $13.65 A/C
X-Men Marvel Comic Collection 2 $13.65 A/C

They probably won't have the shiny O-rings with them, but at this price, I don't mind.

LINKIN: Forget about TF:Roll Out from DD, just buy it from Half.com or whatnot for about $5.50 shipped. It was an ass-move releasing S1 the way they did, no need to reward anyone by buying it new.

Wow my order shippped this morning, I don't think I've ever had DD turn it around that fast during one of these sales.

Had the same thing happen to me. All but one of the things I ordered through the sale shipped the next day. Past times I've participated in similar deals, it's taken them the better part of 3 business days to ship items that were allegedly in stock.

Of course, the OOS item had to be the one I wanted most (Case Closed S3), but as stated in this thread, DD is pretty good about getting things back in stock in a timely manner.

For those of us getting an item that comes out just before the sale ends, a good idea might be to order the item at the stroke of midnight the night before it is released, just to ensure the supply won't be too depleted. I don't know how DD's system works but I imagine it can be done and apply the coupon.

Can you order more than once with the 25% off code? I would like to make a order tonight for 24 Season 7 and than another one on Tuesday for BSG Season 4.5.

You can order as many times as you want. You just have to use a different code each time.
