Definitely a great show. Loved it and am glad I picked it up at the Best Buy sale a while back.

I love this anime, my #1 favorite. I'll agree after a certain event in the anime my interest waned somewhat, but still a fantastic series overall.

Indeed, it is in japanese though. I personally liked the english dub alot.

Near future? I'd guess no- the boxsets are a fairly new release, and Deathnote is pretty popular- I'd guess they'll stick at just over half off for awhile yet.

Absolute earliest I think it's go lower is around Christmas, especially if they opt for a full series boxset in time for holiday shopping.
