Depends on your area, your price points, your uses....

For example. I live in Hattiesburg, MS. Comcast, ATT, and some small-time DSLs (Gulfpines or something and another one) offer services. ATT last time I checked required a phone line. Plus, their fastest plan wasn't fast enough for me. With comcast, I'm hitting 16mb in theory (about 9mb in actuality because I live in an apt. and a lot of people have comcast internet too)

Of course, if you have FIOS, get it. THEN AGAIN, you might not want to pay that price!

So many things....

Where I live there are only two services worth considering. Qwest and Charter. Qwest is too slow for a house with 3 gamers, so Charter was naturally the obvious choice. We signed up for the 10mbps connection for about $83/month (includes modem rental). It went out every now and there were a few times when the speed was definitely NOT 10mbps, but overall it worked pretty good.

Luckily, they roommate is great at haggling and was able to DOUBLE our speed (20mbps) for the same price! Woot! Of course there aren't too many servers that actually upload that fast, but still, it's nice.

I've also had Comcast for 9 months when I lived in a suburb outside minneapolis. From what I remember, I was quite happy with it and don't remember having any problems.

ive had comcast for the past 3 years, before that i had att dsl. the att was slow and i had more connection issues than i do with comcast. comcast hasnt been without their problems (namely customer service, but occasional outages too) but the speeds i get with comcast make up for those problems. its very fast.
