Meh. If the "Prepare for the future" clue is for Fallout 3 then it looks to be the cream of the crop. I was planing on taking advantage of this sale becuase I intend to buy a PS3 soon, but I'm less then giddy. I already have Fallout on 360 and nothing else looks interesting. I was really hoping for PS3 exclusives like MGS4, Little Big Planet, Uncharted, etc.

My list, since this seems to be the cool thing to do:

6am: Hell's Kitchen
10am: Kid Icarus
12pm: GH: The Beatles
3pm: God of War III
6pm: Donkey Kong (signed by that freak who thinks he holds some world record)

...at least my 103rd repost of predictions looks different.

Is there any chance that the last clue is for UFC? Eigth Wonder = Eight sided ring? It would be a lot better if it was UFC instead of WWE.

Eigth Wonder of the world is a nick name for Andre the Giant...so no it has to be WWE legends of Wrestlemania.

It's just not worth it for me at any higher price since I can't play it yet anyway and it's not really eating away at me that I don't own it.

Not really interested in COD4. I like shooting Nazis a lot more. I'll wait for the new incarnation to bring it back around--and a price drop on it.

This. They did announce DLC for the PS3 version to come out later, but said that there were no plans for a retail version with the DLC. So, no advantage to waiting except (possibly) a lower price.

I urge everyone not to get the PS3 version of Fallout 3. None of the expansion packs are available for this version. Also, there's a glitch preventing some profiles from creating save files (my roommate started a game, played all night, and lost everything because it wouldn't save).

Ok, for everyone asking and having questins about the PS3 version of Fallout 3 and what the Game of the year edition will have or if it even will come out on PS3, read the Bethesda blog: http://bethblog.com/index.php/2009/05/19/more-dlc-on-the-way-coming-to-ps3-too/

Also, yes, the PS3 version did have a lot of problems early on and a patch was released, so I expect this to be fixed.

Wolverine is incredibly fun, and would be a worthy pickup around $35. I borrowed a copy and couldn't stop playing it until I had beaten it. But I like those God of War style hack & slash action games.

Nah,. Bethesda's releasing a GOTY Edition in October for both consoles that will have all 4-5 DLC packs currently planned for release. PS3 just won';t be able to buy a disc to install the packs via retail.

Anyway, I'd bite on Metallica if its 25 or under................maybe. I'm weary of buying another Guitar Hero game, especially after the fiasco that was World Tour. How is GH: Metallica? Decent enough?

And ewww Wolverine for 39.98. I'm losing hope! hah.

Well we are off to a fantastic Amazon Gold Box day *sarcasm*

I really just have no hope left for these Gold Box deals. The last ones sucked hard and I have a feeling this day will not be any different.

What happened to the old gold box's that were actually good?

SmileyMcSmiles
06-22-2009, 09:03 AM
I knew it...I just knew it. All they did was match the price of a market seller...but this game can already be had for $35-40. These deals are starting to blow. If it was Infamous or Resident Evil 5...but come on man! Wolverine should have been $30 or less.

The Amazon "deals" = Fail.

Not pissed. Learn not to take words of other people out of context.

On top of that...this game could be bought for around the same price on their own market place already. On other sites like half.com you can get this brand new for $35-40 as well. And since this is a lighting deal...it should be something people immediately jump on. I don't see that really happening. This isn't worthy of the lightning deal name. Hence...it fails.

Wow.

I'd say disappointed. You need to look at the time frame here: Wolverine will be around $30 or less in a matter of weeks. Most of us are willing to wait for that. Plus, there's this whole expectation that Amazon Gold Box deals will give us a better discount % than 20! (i.e. a lot of stores are already selling Wolvy for $50, so $10 off doesn't seem like a "Gold Box Deal")

Yeah, what he said. Plus, you have to generally realize that a "good deal" for a consumer is not a "good deal" for the seller. This is "CheapAssGamer" - a site dedicated to the end user, not seller. Part of me hurts for company forced into discounting their products... but that's an entirely different topic, worthy of many threads worth of discussion. Supply, demand, lousy market research by the game companies, etc.

I think you guys forgot about the 360 gold box deal a few weeks ago. It was BEYOND terrible. I remember WaW was 39.99 right? Ehh, I'm not complaining about these bad deals - I'll save the money for a future Gold Box event.

But it's hard NOT to complain when Amazon offered Uncharted for $30 in a previous Gold Box. Seriously - $30 should be a base price for these events!

Edit: Also, as Wolvy is only 38% claimed as of now, it seems like people either don't like the game, or more likely think it's not a "great" deal.

So is the single player on COD 4 worth it alone?

Personally I don't think it is. I'd rent it if you want to play through it. It *looks* fantastic, but in terms of gameplay I really think COD4 is sub-par for the genre. There's no story, just kind of mostly spastic action, etc. Honestly I thought Haze and Quantum of Solace were both more fun (going ONLY by single player, since I hate death match).

How many solid Gold Box deals have you seen since Black Friday? Very few.

I've seen better deals that were not Gold Box.

Ha, I remember that. That was over a year ago and everyone was waiting for it only to have Amazon crash under the load. When it finally came up it was magically sold out. It's sad that was the best price on this game ever.

It's not like they have to visit the forums to know that. When it's been on sale for that, it's been listed in the weekly ads. I can understand some people buying it, but I'm having a hard time imagining enough of a rush on it to sell out like that.

Either Amazon didn't have that many copies to begin win, or the PS3 owners who like to jump on Gold Box deals don't really pay attention to other stores.

Yep, me too.

If you take a deal out of your cart can you not add it again? Amazon was trying to use my trade credit (that is for a friend) as payment. When I changed the payment option the gold box price was gone. Then I deleted it to try again and now it says claimed.

I'm confused. Why didn't you just use the credit and then pay the friend for the credit?

HAWX really sold out that quickly at $29.98?!? Hasn't it been $29.99 at Best Buy and other places several times in the recent past already?

I think a lot of people are confused about how the lightning deals work. The percentage claimed does not reflect how many were actually sold. It just shows what percentage of the items were added to people's carts. There are only so many claim tickets and those people that claim the item have until midnight to complete the sale. So, you could have 100% claimed with 0 sales.

It's always been my understanding that though you could keep it in your cart, you did not get the sale price after the deal has expired, even if it wasn't 100$ claimed. ie, the price reverts after the sale ends whether its in your cart or not. I'm pretty sure I've experienced that personally.

You are simply incorrect.

Lightning deals used to be awesome and lived up to their name. Which is why we, who remember when they were awesome, expected games like Wolverine, GH: Metallica, for $30. Like I mentioned before, you can buy Wolverine already for $35-40 brand new...and Meijers has GH: Metallica for $30 new. So when Amazon gives its PS3 customers these prices for their lightning deals....especially to those who remember what their lightning deals used to be...it's only logical we will compare and call these prices garbage.

Ridiculous? No. Once again....you are just simply incorrect.

Just to get this out of the way, the closest Meijers to New York is in Ohio, and the closest one to California is Illinois, and the closest store to Texas is in Kentucky. So more than 3/4 of the country cant even make it to a Meijers, making that irrelevant.

Second, Amazon doesn't owe you anything. they're already selling the game for a discounted price, and adding 7 dollars on top of that, which is more than fair considering they already have the best price of any national retailer on the game without the lightning deal, factor in no tax and free shipping on top of that.

If you think its a good price, you're welcome to buy it. The consensus seems to disagree.

I didn't see anyone claim that Amazon owed them anything. That said, while it might be a fair price for the game, it's pretty clear people don't consider it a deal worthy of jumping on. For you to call people ridiculous for that is, itself, ridiculous.

Irrelevant? Not really...even if you wasted your time and mine by rationalizing it to custom-fit your point of the argument. Even on Amazon's own market place you can get it for $43 regularly. Did you mention that? Also, anyone that has the diligence will know that GH games drop in price pretty fast, especially before a new GH product hit the shelves. GH: Metallica will soon be $40...so to slap that price on a lightning deal is lame.

Yes...Amazon doesn't owe us anything. But we aren't the ones peddling and marketing their lighting deals in our faces....they are. It's their business. The game isn't anywhere near as good as the SvR series. The controls and the move-sets have been heavily butchered....which is why the game has sold so poorly. What ticks me off a bit is that Amazon has the 360 version for around $36....meanwhile....the PS3 version is $57. I see this one selling no less than the ALREADY STANDARD 360 price of $36....and it's still not worth it for that game. That game is only worth $20 IMO...and it better come with a free real life Diva for that price too.

My forecast....expect another lame lighting "deal". I better stop or the fucking Amazon retail police will start breathing down my neck again.

Unless these gold box deals just stop selling out or turning a profit for Amazon, you can bet there will be more like this in the future and prices that are arguably a discount for some. This.

My 2 cents: it's one thing to comment about being disappointed by the prices or to say that it hasn't met your "opt-in" price, and another to blame amazon for having a "shitty" sale. Bottom line, amazon's prices are not dependent on what cheapassgamers are going to pay, it's whatever their bottom line allows for. Sometimes it'll work in your favor, and sometimes it won't.

I think it's a bit unfair to say they are "peddling and marketing their lightning deals in our faces." The only way Amazon markets their lighting deals is on their gold box page. You have to be searching for the deal in question to find it. I don't see much marketing or peddling in that, and definitely not in our faces.

Enjoy your very own Vault Boy collectors item direct from Vault-Tec
Includes The Art of Fallout 3 hardcover book of exclusive concept art and commentary
Special DVD The Making of Fallout 3 included for a behind the scenes look at the creative team
Includes fully customized metal Vault-Tec lunch box

If you're really into Fallout it's worth it I guess. I wouldn't be surprised if collector's edition drops down to $30 soon though, Amazon's been trying to unload collector's editions for a while and I keep seeing small piles of them at Best Buy and Walmart.

Actually, people whining isn't the problem. It's the internet, that's how it works. It's when people claim Amazon is ripping people off. Everyone of the the Gold Box items have been good "deals".. but they aren't steals... and why CAG'rs expect them to live up to Target clearance, random internet discounts, craigslist or ebay scores, etc is beyond me.

I scored L4D and BK N&B for a combined $23 today, but it was dumb-luck to get into Target at the right time to score them, well not all dumb luck, but still I had to drive there and hope it dropped and they still had them. COD4 for $29 is a great price, the others are just good deals, they are all quite less than normal retail, and equal to what a decent Target/BB/TRU sale price would be.. but those are always just random deals, much like the Gold Box events.

Wow, you can tell you're a noob here: pretty much every CAG that's worth their weight in savings has some--if not a lot--of love for Amazon.com.

I buy about 90% of my games from Amazon, especially now that I have the ECA discount: the initial price is usually $4-5 cheaper than MSRP, shipping is free, I don't pay sales tax, and then I get another 10% off on top of that. What's not to love?

I truly feel bad for you: writing off Amazon was about the worst move you could make in regards to saving some $ on your purchases.

qft. I was piling on Amazon earlier in the thread as well, but its only out of love. There's a reason its one of my first visits every morning, generally speaking Amazon is wonderful to gamers. Just not today. Bastards. :D

I can't remember the last good video games gold box.

February 23rd, all PS2 Gold Box - Excellent deals on Persona 4, Yakuza 2, and others.

January 12th was also a good one. I don't remember all the specifics but I picked up The Last Remnant and Eternal Sonata (PS3) at very good prices.

My point is, I realize these have gone downhill a bit of late, but there HAVE been good video game gold boxes in recent memory.

It's attitudes like this that make me ashamed of people like the whiners.

Frankly, I enjoy the hunt of a good deal. And if I can get a little help from my CAG friends once in a while, all the better. But unlike my fellow CAG in the rebuttal above, they seem to vehemently disagree and that they are owed the world on a silver platter to hit the digital pellet bar at a lower cost to find self worth and apparently find redemption in this for alleged charitable donations.
Allow me to illustrate:

For starters, I don't have to hit the Shaq-Fu button to make my case. Secondly, yes, apathy runs rampant in most societies that are not third-world countries. Thirdly, it is childish, impudent and downright spoiled when whiners cry afoul that their precious video game was $40 on sale from $60 instead of $38 and that they deserve everything the world has to offer to their own demands.

If your excuse to make up for such self-indulgent attitudes is that you donate to charity once a year to make yourself feel important to society, more power to you. It still doesn't make you any less whiny.
When you can show that you're running your own charity and stop crying that you didn't get what was owed to you, then maybe we'll talk about how that "simple" distaste of deals gone awry is perhaps just that, Mister Smiley.

Here's the thing son, you're the one taking any of this extremely serious. This is a thread about Amazon Deals. Some people think they were good deals...the majority think not. Nothing more...nothing less.

Yet you come here and make mountains out of mole hills, chastising people as if your perception has any validity in this thread. This isn't a thread concerning philanthropy. If you are so concerned about the welfare of the unfortunate of the world...there are plenty of sites and forums about that. Go there, as that is the proper area for such discussions. What part of that do you not understand? Is that too difficult a concept for someone of your illustrious capacity to understand?
