What amounts to a free "rental" != a free game, by any stretch of the imagination.

And by the way, I wasn't trying to harp on the deal, just trying to get it straight. A more appropriate title would be "play XXX for free for a week" or whatever. You're not actually getting a free game.

OP, your title is misleading. Are you affiliated with GameTap?

Sorry, but you should fix it to free TRIAL which is always free instead of trying to defend your misleading title by saying "call it what you want".

Not only is it a free trial but you have to download every game. Keep in mind some games are like 3+ gigs and well on slower connections it may take a day to download so you lose a day of the free trial.

I use Vista and the Browser games work fine. The Desktop ones do work, the only problem I've had is the screen resolution is a little low, but once you mess around with the settings it's perfect.

Aww, 64 bit systems aren't supported. I'm happy I have a 32 set to dual boot but too lazy right now to get some pyschonauts in.

now,.. is it possible to define controls?

i noticed games that i played before it became a browser plugin retained the controls i set for them(or maybe by pure coincidence they default to that for everyone), but games im playing for the first time i cant change the controls.. it doesn't detect my arcade stick in the gametap plugin

Free game of the week is free to play for a week, after that it does back into the vault. The other free games are around longer, usually about 3 months.

Is GameTap fully working yet since it's move to browser, or is it still in "beta?"

I was furious with the poorly-managed transition--and feel I should never pay for a beta, nor should I be forced into one. Nothing worked for me or my parents (I gave them a gift subscription). Now I don't even bother trying. It was a nice way to waste $120 between the two households.
