Hey All,
I had my used FFXI w/hardrive up on ebay and after the six day of seven, Square-Enix had them pull my auction! This is what they said....

"We would like to let you know that we removed your listing:
8134222010 Sony PS2 40GB Hard Drive MINT w/ Final Fantasy XI USED
because the intellectual property rights owner notified us, under
penalty of perjury, that your listing or the item itself infringes their
copyright, trademark, or other rights. We have credited any associated fees to your account. We have also notified the bidders that the listing(s) was removed, and that they are not obligated to complete the transaction.
If you relist this or any other similar items on eBay, your account
likely will be suspended. "

What is this all about? Are the game sellers on ebay going to start getting this message for all games at some point? What-gives Square-Enix??

Also, anyone know what can be done with a USED FFXI for the PS2? Can someone else install it on their PS2?

You're selling it with the hard drive correct?
I do know you can't install FFXI on more than one console. So if you've installed it on your PS2, with the hard drive, you're out of luck.

Are just the HarDrives useable on another PS2's?
Think i could just sell the Harddrive?

We'd need to see the ad, but my first guess is you may have used a picture that Square didn't want you using. Also, if you copied some of their text describing the item, that could be your problem. Just a guess.

I used my own picture and own description! Thats the weird thing!

The sad thing is ...the auction was up to $71 !! There is a demand for them USED i would say!

EBGames, Gamestop won't take the hard drive because it's been used. My guess is Square is watching Ebay to make sure no one tries to sell theirs.

Yet they dont mind me selling FFX or X-2?
Just seems odd! Why would they care i wonder? Not like they LOVE their fans charging them $12.99 a month to play a game!

Maybe it's that they don't want you selling accounts. Is there a way to format the drive to clear all your account info off of it?

It has to do with the hard drive and the fact that the game has to be installed on the hard drive. Trust me, if someone else buys it, they won't be able to use it anyways. Best thing to do is just suck it up and keep it. A lot of PS2 games already take advantage of the HDD, ESPN NFL 2K5, SW Battlefront, Res Evil Outbreak.

It is clear...maybe i will take that approach!! Thanks jmcc!

So is it true that once they are used they can't be reformated for another PS2?
What if the PS2 you owned crapped out and you had to buy a new one (it happens folks)? You would have to buy a new hard drvie too? Seems odd and costly!

No problem. And you can always use it for what I do too, memory card backups. You can take all the data on your memory cards and copy it to the HDD. They don't take up a lot of space and it allows you the freedom to not have to constantly buy new memory cards.

It's likely due to the FFXI account issue. A lot of MMORPG companies really come down hard on people who sell accounts or in-game stuff.

It's because your actually selling your copy of FF11. In the user agreement it says something along the lines of "you may not sell your account". If you're selling your copy, you are in essence selling your account as well. To Square-Enix, your account is yours and no one elses, and trying to sell your account basically breaks your user agreement. It even goes so far as to say that if you let your account go unpaid for over 3 months, that you would have to buy another copy of the game just to play again.

Thansk Mafia...that explains it all!

No prob. I'm in basically the same situation. I got the game at launch and spent 2 nights getting random servers until the one my friends were on finally came up. Then I played it for about 2 hours and hated it. Ultima Online moved faster than FF11, and with as many games as I have, I lose patients rather quickly. Course, with a canceled account, I'm stuck with a (more or less) lame duck HD.

At least ESPN NFL 2K5 recognizes it. :D

If I you were you guys selling it, I'd list it a little cheaper then you think you can get for it with BUY IT NOW. Hopefully if you set the price cheap enough someone will be able to buy it before e-bay shuts the auction down.

if you selling your FFXI game is what they have a problem with, try listing it as "PS2 harddrive plus FREE FFXI game" or something like that. then you aren't selling it, you are offering it as a bonus. we all know that in the end you are still selling it, but if you word it that way they may not be able to do anything. i guess. maybe not.

i'd also do what jimbodan said about listing it with buy it now for a little lower. if it was already up to $71, try listing with a BIN of $65 or something, maybe someone will buy it quickly.
