The back story if you are interested:

Last summer I picked up a Fat PS2 for $5 at a garage sale. The woman said that the system would work for about 5 minutes and freeze. It was really dusty. I took a can of compressed air and wiped it down. The PS2 works great and I have never had it freeze up on me. The problem is that I have several PlayStation 2 CD's (Blue CD-ROMs) like ICO, Star Wars Starfighter, Half-Life, Sled Storm, Rez, etc. that I really want to play, but will not work in this PlayStation 2.

Last week, one of my roommates moved out and let me have his fat PS2. It was a little dusty and had not been played since 2007. I cleaned it up and it works better than the first PS2. The disc tray works smoother and does not have an irritating noise like the other PS2. Also some games like Katamari and Downhill Domination actually work on this PS2 that I could not get to work on the first one. But this PS2 will also not play PlayStation 2 CD's.

In summary:

Both of my Fat PS2's will not play the blue PlayStation 2 CD's that I want to play so badly.

So my questions are:

*Should I try and clean the lens or sell the systems to GameStop, Hastings, Vintage Stock, or Games-X-Change and buy a new PS2 slim?

* Any advantages/disadvantage of the slim PS2 over fat PS2?

* Which stores of the aforementioned has the best buy back price?

* Will I run into this problem in the future again if I buy a PS2 Slim or are they built better than the fat PS2s?

Thanks for the answers!

use the ps2 phat to turn it into a softmoded system. Copy the game over to a hard drive and play any game you already own.
