Too bad they're delaying releasing the Extended Editions on Blu-Ray just to milk fans.

It's $70 at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Picture-Theatrical-Editions/dp/B000X9FLKM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1245938025&sr=8-1) plus there's no Tax/Shipping through them for the Majority of us.

I just noticed that you didn't even link to it. LotR from WBShop (http://www.wbshop.com/The-Lord-of-the-Rings%3a-The-Motion-Picture-Trilogy-+Blu-Ray/1000092794,default,pd.html?cgid=)

Word is that they might announce the extended edition during comi-con. I would hold out until then.

If this is on sale for $40 or so when it comes out, I'll snag it. Otherwise I'll wait for the EE set.

Did anyone notice the release date at WB? 11/3/09?!?!?!?!?! We're going to be waiting a looooong time for the EE's. I bet they wait until the Hobbit hits theaters.

not a huge fan of LOTR so it will be easy for me to wait on the extended versions.. why they dont just release both on the same day is just mean.. atleast gives choices to people (some just prefer the theater release some extended) but from all the different lotr dvd releases its obvious that they love to milk the fans and im not falling for it.. i did it with the 90 different star wars dvd sets like a damn fool and i wont do it again

extended only for me.Ditto here for EE on BR only.

Doing the LOTR EE editions plus The Hobbit on BR in a nice four-movie pack would be well waiting on, I think.

The hobbit should be ONE movie, and have an extended version as well. That way, all of the details that they want to keep preserved will have the opportunity.

What is with breaking a book into two movies?! Harry Potter has 6 movies, but hte 7th has to be split into two, WTF?!

Hey man... that was a long book with a LOT of stuff going on. I would think true fans of the series would welcome a two-movie deal with the Hobbit instead of making a version with many many details and side adventures left out. Personally I am stoked to hear they are making two films out of the Hobbit!

It's about time. I'll wait for the extended version like everyone else, though.

Also, don't forget the B2G1 deal at the Warner Store, I'd be surprised if this didn't stack with it.

they could just put the EE and regular edition on one bluray right? i mean the disks are ginormous...

They could easily use the seamless branching features of Blu-Ray to have both versions of the film per disc. However, Warner wants money..and releasing the theatricals first with the EE's following will guarantee them a much bigger payday.

yes and no

they're not putting sd footage on a bloorai disc, they're putting an hd image coupled with lossless audio onto it. shit like that takes up way more space than 3 dvd's

I do remember reading one rumor that Peter Jackson himself wants to supervise a new transfer of the extended editions with potential to fix a few spotty blue screen/CGI spots. If so then I'm willing to wait a bit for the extended to be released on Blu. Its not like as if they don't look pretty good on any good upconverting player as is right now.
