Do you remember where you were when the DS coupon was ressurected?

Yeah, you know, I was just eating breakfast with my family, and uh, we were just talking about how we missed the DS coupons. How saddened we were, when, they, uh, when they had died. We tried to move on by using the 20% off GBA coupon, but it wasn't the same. Then we saw, it was alive! It was alive! We were so happy... we so happy we even bought the used game of the deal Wii Music. Then we returned Wii Music. God we're so stupid.

I have a question about edge. Since the $2 edge deal is dead, if I subscribe to game informer would I get the edge card the same day, or do I have to wait to get it in the mail? I've been buying alot of used games from them lately so I might as well get an edge card to save some money.

I no longer own a DS :/

However, should any of you RPG fans be looking for a game, I HIGHLY recommend The World Ends With You. Without a doubt, it was the best RPG I had played until I finally beat Xenogears a few days ago. It beats the hell out of FF10 FF12......Just.....its so engrossing.

You won't be disappointed. I can't preach enough about this game, honestly. I had so much fun collecting all the items and the "Special Reports" (its like KH's Ansem Reports/Journal) and just.....I haven't been that addicted to an RPG in sooo long. It felt great.

Sorry. Didn't mean to hijack the thread haha. Anyway great coupon.

To the poster above: You get the Edge card the same day, in fact they may even go ahead and apply the discount to your current purchase. They did for me, anyway.

Irish - Good DS RPGs, Chronotigger (dropped to $26.99 2 weeks back), World ends with you, Mario and Luigi Partners in Time, Etrian Odyssey isn't bad, Suikoden Tierkreis...

I find it puzzling that you guys need to wait for a specific coupon to get excited about buying games for the DS when we have had 3 B2G1 in the past 2 or 3 months that would save up to 40% (with edge) if used perfectly and definitely more than the 30% if you are the least bit smart about it. Plus I know some of you are buying other stuff anyway.

Quite a few of us just purchased one, so must of us didn't have one until the one that just past. I did pick up a few during the last b2g1.

If you liked Mario and Luigi on GBA, the DS one is pretty good. It's not terribly difficult, but the humor and gameplay are great.

Traditional RPGs: Dragon Quest IV or V, Final Fantasy IV are some classics. I really despised III, with its so-so story but a job system that makes you appreciate how much more refined it was in V.

Black Sigil is also pretty good. Avalon Code has an interesting premise of cataloguing the world and getting to modify the enemies.

Etrian Oddysey is fun but can get a little rough. Luminous Arc, Knights in the Nightmare, and Fire Emblem are great strategy RPGs.

So, there's a decent list. Go nuts :-P

I really recommend Knights in the Nightmare if you can find it and if you haven't played FFIV in a long while, it's updated enough to where it holds up to DS standards.

Well I have no idea what to get. I already picked up The World Ends With You to add to my queue (Only to see it at BBV for 9.99 today :bomb:). How much different is Kirby Superstar Ultra from the regular old Kirby Superstar?

Any suggestions on 2 games I should start with?

Any of the 3 Castlevanias are great.

Advance Wars are solid strategy games as are the Age of Empires ones.

New Super Mario Bros or Super Princess Peach are both fun.

Luminous Arc was a fun RPG as was Fire Emblem. So many games, good luck!

I find it puzzling that people always say this, personally ;) I can rarely find 3 games, at around the same price, at one GS store, to buy. This coupon allows me to buy in something other than multiples of three, which works much better for me.

Thanks so much OP! Now to make a list...

Yay for the ds coupon!
I laughed pretty good at FoS's post. I always look forward to JP's Thursday post with the weekly GS coupon, and the lack of a DS coupon has been a common lament for quite some time now.

Then we returned. God we're so stupid.

I find it puzzling that people always say this, personally ;) I can rarely find 3 games, at around the same price, at one GS store, to buy. This coupon allows me to buy in something other than multiples of three, which works much better for me.

Thanks so much OP! Now to make a list...

Indeed. It's nice not having to find three games you want. Plus, new games are constantly coming out or showing up used at your local store. Something that wasn't available the last B2G1 might be now.

06-26-2009, 12:09 PM
I would also like to add that it's incredibly difficult to find 3 games for the DS that will yield maximum savings from a B2G1. For the previous B2G1, I made a list of games in which I was interested, and I could never find a combination of 3 games where all 3 had the same price.

...No. Last week, I posted a similar "Where were you when the DS coupon died" thing. This was a "continuation" joke that no one but me would get. Sorry to bother you, Shoe. Didn't mean to.

Recent DS Games I highly recommend:
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73411) $30 used (yeesh..)
Peggle: Dual Shot (http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=72954) $18 used

FYI, Peggle: DS is on clearance at Target for $13.98 (30% off)

I'm so glad we finally got a DS coupon, that way people can finally shut up about it. :)

:whee: Thanks for understanding our pain. ;)

Like others have posted, I've been waiting to pick up Suikoden Tierkreis ($29.99) and Valkyrie Profile: CotP ($24.99). Two B2G1 sales have passed by and I've been unable to find a third game to complete a set of three. With the coupon, I might save less but I can finally stop waiting. No need for a third game.

Henry Hatsworth is awesome. I picked it up in last week's B2G1 (and yeah -- I couldn't maximize the discount there, either, since there weren't two other games at that price that I wanted).

They started popping up around me, so keep looking. Totally worth it.

I may give Chrono Trigger and TWEWY a try. $27 + $18 - $9 (coupon) - $4.50 (Edge) = $31.50 - $25 eRewards GC = $6.50+tax. Not bad.

retro game challenge 24.99 - 17.49
fire emblem: shadow dragon 26.99 - 18.89
N+ 12.99 - 9.09
total 45.47

just for shits and giggles , if it was the b2g1 sale
24.99 * .9 (edge) = 22.50
26.99 * .9 = 24.29
total 46.79

Damn, I'm really going to make use of this coupon. Unfortunately, no used copies of SMT Devil Survivor, but just about every other game I want is at a store nearby. Hopefully they are all complete and mint.

Retro Game Challenge, yeah I forgot about that one...definitely at the top of my list...

Too bad a lot of the used prices are, as ever, too high, but I (and many of us) would have that complaint no matter how low they were set - just the CAG in us.

Hey, great coupon--the barrage of quality titles since spring has left me really hesitant to pay full retail for a DS game for a while. The only downside for me is that most of the stuff I want is too obscure to ever have any hope of showing up used :P Nevertheless, I'll still print a coupon out on the off-off-off chance that something like Henry Hatsworth, Jake Hunter: Memories of the Past, or FS&R were to actually be there used. (Or, even less likely, the miraculous day finally comes that I see Electroplankton, Monopoly/Boggle/Yahtzee/Battleship, Elf Bowling, or Inuyasha: Secret of the Divine Jewel on the shelf.)

Oh, and I take it there's no way of their knowing if you use a coupon at more than one location? I plan to be in an area with five Gamestops in a ten-mile radius tomorrow, and there's no guarantee that I'll find three games I want at a single location.

Stuff I was looking for:

GTA Chinatown: 20.99
Rhapsody: 9.09
MechanicMaster: 13.99
Touch Mechanic: 9.09
Dark Spire: 12.59
Impossible Mission: 5.59

Stuff I found along the way:

Moon: 12.59
Avalon Code: 17.49
Summon Night : Twin Age: 10.49
Princess Debut: 10.49
Luminous Arc: 13.99
Retro Game Challenge: 17.49

Everything had box, manuals, and instructions. I've been looking for MechanicMaster and Impossible Mission with box and manuals for awhile now.

I wasn't sure I'd like Retro Game Challenge, but it's a blast!

Went to three Gamestops tonight... came back with Lunar Knights (which I now see doesn't have manual -argh) and Mystery Dungeon. Everything else on my list I found gutted (Henry Hatsworth, Summon Night, Nanostray 2, Chrono Trigger, and on and on)... grrr.

This is turning into an epidemic. At the first store I went too, they literally had probably 200 used DS games... and probably about 20 of them had their original cases. I'm not going to rag on Gamestop - I choose to shop there and all that. But who are these irresponsible people who can't keep their shit together!? And don't give me the "it's kids" line... On the upside, I've finally found a Gamestop here in town where the employees are super nice, very knowledgable, and don't talk down to me because I'm female :-|

I checked the GS site for store stock of TWEWY and CronTrig and hit one close to my way home, but they only had one. I call another one that had both towards my home, but substantially out of my way and the cheerful clerk said they had them both and they'd hold them. I told him I'd be there in 20-25 mins and I was. Waited in line and the guy (I recognized his voice) knocked off for the night and left about two minutes before it was my turn in line. Of course, they couldn't find if he set them aside, only actually had one of the two and didn't have a case for that one. Jerks.

I think the biggest issue is that we're talking about the DS. Not only is it a portable system, but the games are not discs, so they can't be easily damaged. I know a lot of people who simply get rid of or lose track of their cases, because they throw everything into a big carrying case.

From my experience, incomplete copies are not nearly as common as they once were. Four or five years ago, walk into a game store that dealt in used items, and you would see a ton of generic cases. Or just look at the last generation sections of your local GS stores. In mine, you'll see a ton of generic cases, but not so much in the 360, PS3, or Wii sections. In all honestly, I would say that less than 5% of the games in the current generation sections have generic cases. Again, I think a lot has to do with the DS being portable and having games that you would really have to try to fuck up.

Waterhouse

On the cases subject:
It would help if the gamestop cases didn't look so goddamned retarded. Who wouldn't prefer just a blank generic case?

Anyway, big anonymous thank yous to kind souls that actually trade in games with cases and instructions. And don't use game disks as coasters, dog toys, etc.

I have thought about the case thing, as far as trading in... why trade in my cases since I don't get anything for it? But then that is how we end up with all the incomplete games, so I'll look at it as a karma thing and continue to trade in my complete games ;)

bigdaddybruce makes a good point... but still, I am so careful with everything I own, be it a disc or cartridge. It's just a matter of having respect for my belongings and the money spent to get them, I guess. I have a drawer where I keep all my DS game cases, and they go in there whether the game is in the case or not. But you're right, at GS, for every other system, I see many more complete games than I do incomplete.

From another angle, it just bothers me that, if people aren't purposely keeping the cases.. what happens to them? All those lovely DS cases with cover art and manuals... lost for ever... when there are poor lost souls out there searching for a complete game ;)

They can charge a refurb fee for missing manuals, broken cases, overly scratched games, pretty much whatever they want. Now if you walk in there with the case, manual and the game, they would have a hard time justifying the refurb fee.

I'm a completist type of guy, but I was recently part of the case problem. I store my GBA games in DS cases and print my own covers. I needed a few extra cases, so last time I traded in some DS games, I kept the cases. I did give the artwork and manual though so I'm not that bad.

Well, it was an up and down day as far as the Gamestop hunt, but I came away with three games in the end. I went to two, the first of which had almost no used DS games. A gigantic wall of new, but only one or two shelves of used, which were populated with cart-only Ubisoft shovelware.

Second one I went to had a much better selection. Crappy thing was that there were three games that I really wanted that ended up being incomplete. I was excited to find used copies of Mario Hoops 3-on-3 and FFF: Chocobo Tales, but both were missing their manuals. I then found a used copy of Luminous Arc 2 and figured that they were keeping the larger box + bonus CD behind the counter, but they weren't, so I passed on that, too. Ended up with Theresia, Magician's Quest: Mysterious Times, and Hoshigami Remix for $47 after coupon. I know that the last of these three is supposed to be complete crap, but for $12, why not try it for myself?

It may be a shame, but I'm very near to joining the 'problem' crowd, at least when it comes to DS games. I currently keep all the cases I get while I own the games, but I rarely keep the games in the case. I have those travel packs that I keep in the DS travel case and that's where my games mostly are. The game cases just sit taking up space on a shelf. I've been very close to just chucking them a couple of times now, but usually, I'll just trade/sell them whole. If I ever start to run out of space though, I just might become one of "those people".

Yeah, it's Elf Bowling 1&2, and that's the only one for the DS. If vgpc is listing it differently they just abridged the title.

Complete copies inexplicably go for more than retail. It's like it achieved cult status among DS shovelware or something.

Happy hunting/flipping. I haven't seen one on a Gamestop shelf since I actively started seeking out rare DS games. They used to be abundant, but of course back then they weren't valuable and looked about as appealing for full retail as any of the other millions of DS shovelware titles.

final day of coupon picked up

Front mission Ds for 10.49 complete (though might take it back)

Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer for 7 complete again might take it back

One of the two will go back depends what they want :)
and
KNIGHTS IN NIGHTMARE For 20.99 (sadly no outer box or soundtrack)

I wasn't able to find Front Mission or Shiren in my area. Any chance I can save those from going back to GS?
