Sorry for the n00b question, but how does the bing cashback work? I checked it out and couldn't figure a way to buy through bing.
You have to set-up a cashback account and then search through bing. A sponsored link will appear at the top. From there you just need to find the right item and Buy It Now with PayPal. Seems at the moment, the cash back is getting deposited right into your PayPal. I bought 4000 MSP last night and used the cash back from that to offset this purchase.
Not counting tax, the per month on this 12 month is equivilent to paying $28 for a 13 month assuming you get the 8% back from Microsoft. Not too shabby, I say. I used by 8% eBay coupon on the 4000 MSP last night which was a better deal for me, but if you're not getting anything pricey than that, you'll score an even better deal. Thanks for posting this!

In case people were wondering if it's a retail packaged item, it's the same 12 month (not 12+1) code card in a clamshell package you'd purchase at a retail store.
Here's a link to the item on the buy.com website:
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=211086907
Plus, it's $44.99 on the Buy.com website, with free shipping, so people are saving $17 per item when buying it through the eBay link.
They sent me an order confirmation email, and in the order status checking link (https://ssl.buy.com/AC/OrderLookup.aspx?source=paypal), it shows the above item as the item being shipped out. It's not shipping yet, as it says the following for the shipping:
Estimated ship date:
In Stock: Usually Ships 1-2 Business Days - Free shipping items may take an additional 3-5 business days to ship
Shipping method:
Budget Shipping (7 to 9 business days)
Their "budget shipping" is media mail shipping, BTW.

To be fair, I'm sure a company such as Buy actually reports earnings and does take the according state and federal taxes. (Well, I assume they do, I dont really know how often internet companies are regulated) This is opposed to some sellers who also decide to slap on sales taxes just to get the extra 10% even though it goes into their pocket.

This has been a hot button state law issue for the last little while now. You may or may not remember all noise when amazon had to start charging tax for NY because of a recent tax law passage. As briefly as I can describe, states generally can't charge taxes to companies simply because they sell and ship their products to that state (burden on interstate commerce/federal preemption issues). However, they can charge taxes if the company substantially uses the state's services or enjoys the protection that the state provides. Usually that means they are based in the state or ships out of that state. Most states eschew charging these kinds of taxes to attract companies but some just want the money. So, long story short, write your state officials if you don't like it because it's their fault - not ebay or buy.com's.
And that ends the educational portion of our broadcast day.:)

For anyone that thinks that if you still have time on your account and you don't need to buy because of it, you can have Live stacked on your account for up to three years from today's date. So, if you have six months, a year, whatever, you can add to it to have up to three years on your account for pre-paid Live. It'll just switch from one pre-paid card to another when the prior one expires.

so I guess the story is that they reposted the deal multiple times already?
I dunno, at this rate it's very tempting (even though they minused a month and offer no goodies like they did the last time I got it).
How much is a 12 month gold usually?
With netflix connectivity available (and me normally very reluctant to get full priced gold just for that), i dunno, it might be worth it I guess, even though last time I had it I let almost half the time I had gold go to waste, now with Netflix I actually might use it a little more, and if this discount truly is good (again, how much is this valued at normally?), then perhaps it's a deal I cannot pass on.
Plus, I havent bought anything on ebay for like, ever :) .

Why leave cards lying around? They stack.
I always leave them unused until necessary as well. It leaves me open to use those occasional free 48hr-1 month cards (that only work with silver accts upgrading) that come with games or service calls. Besides, I go through long stretches without playing online so it'd be a waste otherwise. This deal is perfect for me for that reason. Those maybe-shady cheap ebay ones are codes only and I can't really guarantee they'd work months from now. The cards are perfect since they keep. I don't know about others, but the 2 years' worth I bought today will probably last me to the end of the 360 life cycle.

Damn you Joystiq! I mean though, this isnt the first bunch of cards they sold though, so they may put up another deal, but with so few left (and them flying off the shelves with just this posts help apparently), seems a bit overkill.
Btw, I caved and got it, good thing i did, it said 48 left as I was placign the order and a minute later it was down to 14 (probably all gone now).
btw, it's so much more on buy.com's website, why are they unloading so many cards at such low low prices?
*yep as i post this they are all gone, those last 14 probably went in the blink of an eye, whew, this is the first limited time deal on this website that I was able to hop on in a LOOOONG time (still wincing from missing out on that CE GTA deal, was so perfect for me since I couldtn decide which version to get....grrr....a deal like that has popped back up has it?).

Do a search, you will see that 12+1 cards have been available at $29.99 from legit sellers on eBay for months now. btw I noticed that Joystiq screwed up the story on this sale by posting that the cards were 12+1 when they are only 12 months. Buying a 12+1 for 29.99 is actually a slightly better deal.

actually I would think not always, isn't it 1 buck for 30 days? So feasibly, that plus then getting this would be better.
anyway people have been saying this deal was posted before, so maybe this isnt the last link.
btw, are those 12+1 deals legit? alot of people have complained about code/scam things. At least you know buy.com is definitely legit.

Just received my shipping notification for my order.
They're not always legit. Some sellers, when they email the code, you never know where it comes from. Plus, eBay is very picky about how you can list items that aren't shipped, such as emailed codes.
btw, are those 12+1 deals legit? alot of people have complained about code/scam things. At least you know buy.com is definitely legit. They're not always legit. Unless you're getting the card in your hand, there's no way to guarantee it's legit.
I've heard of several people being scammed this way. 12+1 is regularly available on the CAG trading forums for $30.And there's always a question where a code comes from, so not even getting it here on CAG is it guaranteed to be legit. If the card is shipped, it's legit. Otherwise, there's always a question.

I believe shrike is refering to your question about the 12+1, not buy.com

Not like the "I'll email you the code if you buy it" types running around here, eBay, Craigslist, as well as other places.
I believe shrike is refering to your question about the 12+1, not buy.comExactly.
