Theirs time where GC lowers the used price but alot of times its still costs more than the NEW...

GC rarely ever lowers the new price without lowering the used.

I'm pretty sure that this will be either $17.99 used or $14.99 used. I'd lean towards $17.99 used.

Yeah used price should drop. Gamestop, not Game Crazy, is the place that loves to keep the used price high and the new price on sale. lol

Awesome deal. I'm jumping all over this deal when I get a chance..! (Tomorrow!)

Thanks OP, I was just thinking about buying this from Amazon for $29.99.

I hope you're right, me and my mVp card would love a used copy for either of those prices.

P.S. this still doesn't make up for me missing out on the Amazon DOTD...

I believe it would be if they carry the game brand new there. It's been a while since I worked for the company so I don't remember how the prices worked at non GC Hollywood Video stores.

I searched for GameCrazy's located near me and the only location it gave was way out by my friend's house where the Hollywood Video is. I had no idea they were related, and I'm surprised that's one of apparently only 2 in the DFW area.

Best Buy price matched this for me. Well, sort of. I went to Game Crazy, and they said it was $29.99, but that they didn't have it in stock. So, I went to Best Buy, and asked them to price match it at $20. Since the guy at Game Crazy said it was $30, I doubted myself, but the lady couldn't find the ad online, but gave it to me for $20.99.

And I picked up their last copy of RE5: CE for $55 :) Win.

But now that I'm home, I realized I failed epically . . . forgot to give them my rewards center card. :( No points for me!

Ok, someone tell me if this isn't all kinds of fucked up...

So I ran by my local GC to get in on this deal and trade in a few games to sweeten the price. I managed to get $15 in store-credit..awesome.

Than I tell the clerk about Dead Space and she tells me it's $30. I tell her about the ad online, and she says there is no such thing, paper wise in the store. I grab my Storm and show her the page, date and everything.

Than she gets her manager involved (I usually don't profile, but this chick was clearly whitetrash) and she tells me that it's not in their system and that they are on a national system. I tell her I will just go to another GC near there but she says it wouldn't matter because they don't have this sale price in their system either.

Not sure what the hell is going on, but I'm not happy. I'm thinking of calling corporate to find out what's going on and to probably take my business to BB.

Does anyone get GC ads regularly? They send them in the mail in my area very randomly, you get one every few months around here. This sale does seem pretty "big" with the DS, you'd think they would send out ads this time around.

LOL yeah no shit, Gamecrazy has the most piss poor communications ever for a country wide chain.
I can't believe how many times I went to them with a promotion or sale running & they had no idea about it & wouldn't honor it. Even in the fucking ads stacked up high in front of them stated all the information & yet they & their computers knew nothing!

I don't go into Gamecrazy often but do like to cherry pick their sales from time to time. What I do not understand is why they never advertise the sales prices. Isn't the point of a sale to get people into the store? Why not put a sign up in front of the game that shows the sales price? Why not have any of the weekly fliers on hand?

It's almost as if they don't want you to buy anything that's on sale.

The clerk used his mvp I think, or something.

My receipt says SW:STFU was 11.69 and Dead space was 13.49 and then there's a $2 gamegaurd. Whats that?

Well subtotal came out to $27.18 and it says mvp saved you $2.80. Odd, but I'll take it. He might have done it because the box art for SW:STFU was messed up and I asked it there were any other cases and he got all snippy at me.

Well basically you've been kinda scammed. They lowered the price of your game and sold you a game guard (game warranty) to meet their sales quota. So technically you paid the same price you would have if they didnt discount your game and sold it to you straight up. Shitty business practices. If I were you I would be pretty pissed and have a word with someone higher up about that employees shadyness.

I would be pissed that the dude treated me like a dumbass thinking I wouldn't know what those extra charges and discounts were. It's just a terrible business practice and it's used in places like GS/GC all the time and usually it involves something way sketchier than what this guy experienced and ends up with the customer being fucked. This guy is lucky the employee didn't say "Oh it's actually 17.99 used" and throw on the 2 dollar game guard.

Indiana Jones
07-08-2009, 04:53 PM
This is how the video game-only stores operate. How often do the clerks try to hard sell you on game guides, used prices, preorders, game guards, etc.? That's where they get their largest profits. They make very little on the new items, but the markup on used is incredible.

So while technically you saved some change, they can point to how many game guards they've sold. They didn't profit on the two they sold you, but they're now on the quota.

I think you're kind of going over the top though. imo, the reason game crazy is run so crappily is because of the crap their employees have to deal with regarding gameguards/pre-orders/mvps. I know of three employees (I'm sure there's more) at my local GC that lost their jobs strictly because their numbers weren't high enough in those three categories. I guess the way I look at it is win win. I would have gotten .80 off my game, he got his numbers up a bit, and I got a free game guard. It's not that big of a deal at all

Picked up Dead Space today... and as per usual at Game Crazy it was still marked at $30 something till they looked it up. Nobody had any idea YET AGAIN. Every GC store in my area has the most misinformed staff you could ever find. For this I award them with the "Least Likely To Tell Store Workers WTF is Going On" award.

<---- Former GC and GS employee

You let them get away with retarded shit once and they'll keep getting away with retarded shit (like jacking the game up 17.99 or something stupid... seen it all before). It's like if you were eating a terrible meal and you left it on your table then your dog decides to shit on it. You don't say "Hey good job at shitting on that I was gonna throw it out anyway" because that would be retarded (even though the whole situation is hilarious). You teach your dog to not climb up and shit on the table. So maybe it's not his (the customer) responsibility to say something about the shady transaction because it really boils down to the management and management should be the one to tell the guy not to shit on the table and learn how to shit right. I'm just stating that I would say something in his situation.

Good deal.

Ditto on my part too. Asked for the price & they told me it was $29.99.
Asked them again & to double check on the computer & the price came up as $19.99, they were literally shocked.

What exactly is gutting? I've never heard of this until today and I've seen it in a couple threads.

Indiana Jones

It's when they open the case up and take the game out before hand, and when you go to buy it they sell it to you as "new." It's usually this way when you buy the very last copy and you get stuck with the display case. But when Gamestop had their last sale, they opened every single game and threw the empty cases into a bin.

I have a GameCrazy located a little less than 25 miles away in another town from my Best Buy. Is that close enough for Best Buy to price match? :P

I've been waiting to get this game, and was going to get it for $30 but then I saw this. I live in Alaska, and the nearest Game Crazy is in Washington state. I went to Best Buy, where the price was still $40 (while BestBuy.com has it for $30) and gave the cashier this week's add printed from the internet for Game Crazy showing Dead Space at $20. She just did a price match, and the manager came to authorize and he said "Just know for next time we don't price match dot-coms." I explained it's an add for a game store, not a website... I just didn't think we had one in town. And the manager was like "It's usually just for local retailers." He left and I walked out with Dead Space for $20!

Thanks OP!! Like people have said on here before about price matches at BB, it likely just depends on your cashier. Just walk up to the young girl who either doesn't know any better, or just doesn't care. And I would consider within 25 miles close enough to be considered a "local retailer".

That example is hilarious:applause:

in all fairness, GC stores don't have shrink wrap machines, so it was somewhere else that did it.

it's not synced because people asked for it, it's synced because they took a long holiday weekend and didn't update the prices in time for Monday's resend (pricing for the next day is usually sent out to stores the night prior, so they didn't process it in time for Monday's update).

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that there's thousands and thousands of GS stores and only about 700 GC stores nationwide. GC being inside Hollywood Video certainly doesn't help. I'd love to see foot traffic data in Gamestops in malls versus standalone Gamestops.

$18.99, PM'ed @ BB.

Yeah i PMed mine today also from BB. However they kept on asking me these questions and tried to deny me from getting the deal. I had the print out and every thing. She than said the GC is not close to their area (20 miles away). I then told her its still a drivable distance and she took it the wrong way as me being "defensive".

Story in this lesson is, be nice to the sales clerk. Even though they question you about the PM, don't take it negative. They only do it because its procedures they need to follow. They don't do it to give you a hard time for no reason.

So stay calm and be patient! Also make sure there is a GC close to your area!

P.S. how the heck did you get the deal for $18.99? min was $21.xx including tax.

hybxero
07-09-2009, 06:31 AM
Price matched a PS3 copy at BB today for around $22 after tax. It took them about 10 mins to verify the price match since I didn't bring in the ad and they had to check online for the price and if there was a store nearby (there's one a few miles away).

Have to agree with Scorch. You should buy @ $20 and move it to the top of your backlog. Especially if you at all liked games like RE4. Or Sci-Fi.

They are the same, trust me, I have played both on my 52' HDTV (I own the PS3 version cause its a single player game, single player games go to PS3, and everything else goes to my 360).

The only real choice would be which system's controller you prefer, I prefer 360, but this controls very well on PS3, you might as well toss a coin up.

Just picked this up and I'm pretty sure this is not a new copy...

The safety seal on the right side of the case was cut open so you could almost open the case, but the sticker on the bottom still kept it sealed. The case also has some wear and tear on it, and the disc is not brand new. Disc is in pretty good shape though so I'll just keep it.

This is the email I received in response to my first email in which I wrote this.
Today I went to a gamecrazy near my house. it was over 6 miles away but I went because I had seen on your online ad that Dead Space (360 and ps3) was on sale for $19.99

I called ahead and they had it in stock, I drove down there and then when the clerk scans the game it comes up at the regular price, $29.99. I say isn't it $19.99, I saw it on YOUR website. He responds are you sure it wasn't gamestop. I say no, that goes on for a bit. He calls another store's manager and the manager confirms it is not $19.99. I walk out frustrated and without the game. If your stores dont honor what you advertise on your website, how can customer buy said advertised games. I am very angry at the fact that the ad stated valid 7/6 to 7/12 and it is very blatantly advertising that Dead Space is $19.99. I'm not sure who messed up, I dont really care. I just wanted the game for that price. I may just take the ad to Best Buy and have them price match it if the gamecrazy that I went to wont honor the price after I print and bring in the advertisement.

I never said what gamecrazy it was. I have no idea how the person who emailed me knew which store it was. But they did get the store right.

The store also called me this morning and said that the game price has been fixed and I can pick it up for $19.99.

I am very put off by Gamecrazy for now. I haven't shopped their since about 3 years ago, before the Hollywood video closed near my house.

Went to Best Buy and price matched it. Nobody was really sure if it was OK to do since Gamecrazy is the next town over and they thought it was just a website, but they did it anyway. I think I'll keep this game in the plastic for the month though. I thought the retail price was $60, but isntead it was $30, meaning I "only" saved $10, plus they didn't do the 10% thing since I price matched on the spot (didn't want to deal with the hassle of buying it then immediately taking it to the service desk where they only -might- price match it since Gamecrazy isn't technically a local store here.

Picked up the last new copy at my GC yesterday afternoon. Been a while since I've been there, good lord were they annoying about extended warranties/pre-orders/etc.

Here's my sales pitch: If you get the 360 ring scratches, if you have kids that can't take care of their stuff, or if anything happens where the game gets damaged or stops working, you're covered by the game guard.

If you take care of your stuff, then it's cool, but when you work at store dealing with disc media, you see all of this stuff more often than not.

you'd be surprised at the number of parents that shop with us just so they can get the extended warranty for the games.. their kids scratch it up and they have to buy new ones but with the warranty they don't have to worry about it.

most of our customers seem to buy it on new release stuff as well.. just in case. especially sports games that they know they will play a lot like ufc and madden

is there anything decent to flip from GS to GC or GC to GS

I completely agree. I remember when Best Buy was pimping some stupid Game Dr. The employee tried to get me to buy it. I told him no. He then asked what happens if you get a scratch on the game? I told him I take care of my games. He then tried one last time and said what happens if you loan it to a friend and he scratches it? I preceded to tell him, I don't give me games out to other people. He walked away disappointed I wasn't a sucker for the stupid Game Dr.

Only thing I can think of is Bionic Commando for 19.99 from GS to GC. If I remember, base credit for Bionic Commando at GC is either 25 or 22.

My local Hollywood Video (GameCrazy sister) could not verify the price nor would they even try. I tried to price match it at Best Buy and Best Buy refused to sell it to me at that price because it was "below cost" for them. The two stores are 4 blocks away from each other. I called Best Buy corporate and asked them to verify that they wouldn't price match in this situation and they told me the store was wrong but they could not force them to change their stance. They told me my only recourse was to file an official complaint on Monday if I couldn't get it resolved with the manager. Sad really, after I nagged them a bit, they also told me they would only price match big box retailers in the area. The manager gave me the run around for 20 minutes instead of just following company policy. They wouldn't even call to confirm the price (which was wrong anyway.)

Reininop.

I know tomorrow is Sunday, and obviously the last day for this sale. What I would do anyways is send an email to GameCrazy's customer service email (check the site) stating the issue, and specifically identify the particular GC that denied you the game at this price. I made some headway by emailing and contacting them by phone to get the price updated at my local GC (spoke with a woman named Stephanie).

I would also call BB corporate again and demand that they honore the price, as their price matching policy explicity states nothing regarding denying PM's because an item is below cost to them.

That's a lot of BS I will have to say. When I get back home, I'll post the contact info for the woman I've been dealing with over at GC.

Note: Anyone else curious as to why the 360 version nets you $12.50 for Amazon trade-in and the PS3 version gives you $10 more!?!

Maybe they just have more, its not uncommon to see TIV different for the same game on differnet consoles

The PS3 version is Amazon's trade-in of the day which explains the higher trade-in value.
