Are Samoas the chocolate covered shortbread cookies? I think the cookies' names differ by region. Those are my favorite cookies. Grasshoppers are 2nd favorite in moderation. If I eat too much of them I definitely don't like them.

I saw on the news the other day that girl scouts in different parts of New York were selling cookies at different prices like it was some evil conspiracy. The biggest price difference was like $1. I guess it pays to be a cheapass in everything even girl scout cookies.

Girls Scout troops actually don't make a killing off of the cookies.. there's a huge chunk taken right off the top by the cookie makers, then the national Girl Scouts organization takes a HUGE bite. Local groups are lucky to get 10 cents a box on the sale.
That's why some groups of Girl Scouts try to sell them at a higher price.. they get more money into thier groups.

Back in the day I could've sworn the cookies were like $1 or $2 a box. Now its like $4 or $5 for a smaller box of cookies! Wow this talk about cookies is making me hungry.

They are great, but too expensive. They rarely come by my house anyway.

It is better that I don't get them anyway cause after tasting them I will want more and won't be able to get any.

Girl scout cookies > Boy scout popcorn

I hate selling popcorn.
I have to go door to door, because we don't make enough money to set up in stores like the Girl Scouts do. I only sell to about 1 in 10 people, but they all buy GS cookies.

Also, GS cookies taste better than that crappy overpriced low quality Trails End Boy Scout popcorn.

I just ate a whole box of do-si-dos today, the penut butter ones, and my personal favorite. I opened the box with the intent to only eat 2-3 and wham... the box was empty. I now have an amazing amount of glutton.

That's just because you aren't good at sales. :)
My kid brother traditionally sells 2000+ dollars worth of the stuff
And you can set up at stores... you just have to talk to the stores first.
My kid brother and his pack usually set up at 2-3 different local stores as well as on the local military base.... you'd be surprised how much a little kid in a cub scout uniform can pull in in sales in one day in front of a BX.

People buy from cub scouts because they are helping a cute little kid with their fund raiser.
I am 17, so I am just like an adult trying to sell crappy popcorn.

Cub scouts and boy scouts sell at the same time. Honestly, who do you think a store manager is going to choose to sell popcorn outside of their store?

I was a reluctant girl scout for 2 years. The parents at my elementary school wanted to start it up, and my mom was involved in the PTO at that time, so she ended up being a Girl Scout parent. I hated it. I wanted to play with my video games and Legos. Instead, I had to hang out with these girls doing lame arts and crafts. I mean, I like arts and crafts, but it was just so dumb.

Anyway, when cookie time came around, somehow my house became the warehouse for ALL the cookies, we had to pick them up and everything. You can't even imagine over a hundred boxes (filled with cookie boxes!) stacked up in the living room and dining room. So the GS mothers had to come pick up the boxes for distribution.

For some reason they have changed a lot of the names. Samoas are Caramel deLites, Do-Si-Dos are Peanut Butter Patties. I can't remember what the tag-a-longs were but they have Peanut Butter Sandwhich cookies. Then there's Animal Treasures, which I assume is similar to Shortbread. I checked their website and they have a new cookie called Pinatas, which is like an oatmeal cookies with fruit and glaze. They still have Shortbread, Thin Mints, and Lemon Cremes.

Samoas are my personal favorite, followed by Thin Mints and the Lemon Cremes are really good, too.

Thats quite true. The leaders should be smarter than that.. most troops are associated with cub scout packs, so they should have the boy scouts watch over the cubs scouts, and have them blanket entire areas of cities.
Parents could either stay with thier kids or watch the Tiger cubs.

Geez, I seem to know something about this... I must have been an eagle scout or something. :)

LOL I would have preferred to be in your shoes rather than mine. I *wanted* to be a Girl Scout. You see, the thing is ... my mom had me taking ballet and tap lessons! YUCK! I'm such a tomboy, the last thing I wanted to do was dance and hang out with all the "prissy" girls! And I was stuck there for about 8 years too... ugh. I was willing to do anything to get away from that!

Nooo, the girls were the same. Granted, they were the girls I went to school with, but they were all too "girly". I was a tomboy too, so that's why I didn't enjoy it. Really, the best part was the cookies, in my opinion.

I took a couple tap lessons, and I agree the girls were pretty snobby. I always liked tap dancing though. :)

I'd be too lazy to do that. I'd eat all the ingredients before the oven was done preheating.

Dude, girl scouts rarely did fun stuff like camping. It was all stereotypical girl domestic stuff. I'm a girl, hence I was in girl scouts. You must be in boy scouts. Boy scouts that I knew back in the day ALWAYS went camping and all that outdoors-y stuff. I've never heard of a girl scout troop participating in those activities.

Really? I always thought Girls Scouts did both - the indoor domestic stuff, AND got to go camping and fishing and fun stuff too. Guess I'm glad I wasn't in it then, either. ;)

The grass is always greener, ya know...

Funny, I though Scouts was about character development and helping others :) (I kid, I kid).

I think one thing people don't give scouts credit for is the development of useful, yet somewhat unusually skillsets in young men.

I tried those piņatas, they were pretty good, but man they should give some more cookies, I agree with the content of those boxes. Thin mints are awesome, but since my wife bought those last time I got piņatas this time. Over here in Jacksonville is like they are in front of every store....I mean there are girl scouts covering all the exits of the mall, of EB, Target, Walmart, Geofreys (lame mix of Toys R Us and Kids R Us...but small and crappy), I mean everywhere.

Quackzilla

Those piņatas are good, but my absolute favourite are the peanut butter patties.

Btw, I am a boy scout. Every year during spring break we go on a 50 miler (always turns out to be over 53) that lasts 5 days.
You would be amazed at how fun it really is to go backpacking on the Apalatian Trail. All of youu should at least do a 15 miler.

A woman at work periodically sells doughnuts. I don't know, I think it's for her son's school. Doesn't matter anyhow ... they're Krispy Kreme!!

Best. Freaking. Doughnut. Ever.

I just ordered 2 boxes. Last time I only ordered 1 box, and all the other cheapass mooches that I work with ate them all, and I only got to take home 2 doughnuts.
